    Pretty much between 10th and 12th in major relief pitching category. It could be better, but it could surely be worse.

    Meh. Pagan has given up more than 1 run in 2 of his 16 outings and last night was the first long ball he has allowed this year. Yes, both of those innings were blow ups, but overall he has been pretty effective this season. Yes, both outings were major blow ups, but a much bigger elephant in the room to me is the lack of hitting with the bases loaded. I am not saying I trust the guy in tight situations, but the team has bigger problems at the moment.

    Does it matter though? If the FO can acquire a guy like...Ryan, who has no ML experience and turn him into a front line pitcher, isn't it finding value? Does it matter how they acquired them? How many teams out there has a stable of starting pitchers they drafted and developed? Atlanta and Tampa have done very well in that regard, but it's not really the norm. I do think there was a big gap in developing starting pitching from this franchise, but if for whatever reason your franchise is just lackluster in developing draft picks into ML starting pitching....what's the downside if they can develop bats or can trade young assets to acquire it? The Twins are Top 5 in every major pitching category this season and they only have 4 pitchers over the age of 31. 2/3 of all the pitchers they have used this year are 28 or younger. If you don't want to celebrate the way they develop pitchers that's fine, but so far they have put together a very fine pitching staff, and not 1 person signed via big money free agent splash. In the long run it's probably not sustainable, but it's really hard to argue with current results.

    I wasn't calling you specifically on the whining, but the notion the Twins have a slew of "#3 starters" has been a talking point for awhile now. While you have a very valid point that it is early, Gray has pitched like an ace on a first place team. When he's healthy Sonny Gray is a damn good pitcher. That being said, I am a huge fan of Petty's potential. On the other hand, how many starting pitching prospects have the Twins had in the last two decades who were highly touted and never accumulated as much WAR in their career as Gray has in the first 6 weeks of the season? The list spans more than a handful.

    Sonny Gray is in the discussion to be the best pitcher in baseball this year, if that doesn't count as "value" I don't know what does. For all the whining about the Twins not having ace pitching, Ryan and Gray are in the Top 10 in the MLB in pitching in basically every major category.

    Not sure what the corresponding move is, but apparently Derek Rodriguez is on his way to the big club. He's not on the 40 man, so there should be a couple moves today.

    All I have to say is having too much depth is a good problem to have. There are a lot of ways the FO might go with this, it will be interesting too see what happens.

    8 2/3 innings so far, he hasn't allowed a hit OR walk yet, while striking out 10. Damn impressive.

    With no options, the Twins just need to decide if they are ready to cut bait with Gordon. He hasn't been as bad as the numbers suggest....but how long of a leash does he get?

    In the last 7 games before today Kepler was slashing: .350/.391/.500. It's a small sample size, but he has been one of the better hitters as of late. Also, Larnach hit 3rd, not Jeffers, he was brought it as a replacement late.

    Not to mention the White Sox sit 10 games under .500....which just gives me unbridled joy.

    Big props to Joe Ryan in this one. He gave up a lot of hard contact in the first couple innings. After the Yanks tied in the game in 5th on that error, he really buckled down and retired the last 7 batters he faced.

    I've been an advocate of this team facing great pitchers this year so far....... but tonight wasn't one. On the bright side they only struck out 7 times.... downside, hits are still few and far in-between.

    Not to mention the Twins have played more than half their games against the White Sox, Astros, Yankees and Red Sox.

    Welcome to TD! I will always be jealous of those who were blessed with large hands. Basketball, baseball, football.......all sports which big hands help tremendously.

    I was unaware of the new rules, but I looked it up and it's this: Under the new guidelines, leading teams have to be up by 10 or more runs in the ninth inning in order to let a position player pitch while trailing teams can use a position player anytime it's down by eight or more runs. Position players are also allowed to pitch anytime in extra innings.

    I choose to believe they decided to lay off for a bit and save some runs for the rest of the series instead of continuing to pile them on.

    Are your implying he didn't come to camp committed to playing? Buxton heavily bet on himself and more than likely took a lot less money to stay in Minnesota. Taking a shot at his commitment is a little low.

    Offense aside the defense has been pretty damn good.... which I'm sure has helped that shiny pitching ERA. In that regard the depth has paid dividends.

    I had no idea we had so many medical specialists on the boards here. I am amazed how many of you think the Twins are purposely not playing their best players, hiding crucial injury information and well knowing they are upsetting fans to play a brand of baseball that no one likes. If anyone watched Bryon leg out that triple last week you could obviously see he was huffing and puffing a bit which tells me he is not in peak cardio Byron Buxton shape. I am sure that all stems from trying to work him back from off season surgery and not over extend him to try and prevent future injuries and hopefully get a full season in....or as close to a full season as we have from Byron. I as much as everyone wants to see him on the field more, but man.....

    His defense has never been his strong point, but if he puts up numbers anywhere close to his 2021 numbers his job is safe. Healthy Jorge is a Top 5 offensive 2nd baseman in baseball, and he's only 29. Also very encouraging was his pitch selection last season, his 14.4% BB rate was nearly double his career average. I'm betting on him bouncing right back into form.

    No Twin besides Pagan fell into Twins fan purgatory quicker or more often than Miguel Sano. I'm not sure if it was the lofty expectations of him being compared to Miggy in his early years or down to the straight disgust of management putting him in the OF for 30 games 7 years ago, but fans love to rag on Sano. Just 2 years ago he hit 30 HR, which was more than anyone hit in 2022 and his .778 OPS would have only trailed Buck, Correa and Arraez. He had a BAD 2022, it's true, but he was injured for most of the year and only got 70 PA. He does K too much, but he deserves a shot somewhere and I hope he gets it. It would obviously be great for Kennys as well, he was also a favorite.
