  1. Stay healthy. Get the pitching rotation in order. Twins cannot control who they are going to face, so sit back and watch it all unfold.
  2. The chances are overly slim, but we should know in next 5 games or so if even doable. I'm on the fence if I want to see it come down to the final series, or if the Twins would be better locking in the 3 and being able to rest a few players down the stretch.
  3. Take the division first and......with Houston only 5 ahead of the Twins, my guess is they wait a little longer to start resting players. I know it's a long shot with Hou/Sea/Tex all within 2 games of each other but you never know what could happen in a week.
  4. I would say it gives them a little heads up and knowledge on strategy over your average blogger and forum poster.
  5. He's using actual statistics based on hitting with 2 outs. WPA is a stat heavily weights hitting at certain times. I can see where they overlap, but they are not the same thing.
  6. IMO WPA is a terrible statistic
  7. Rocco has lived baseball for the basically his whole life. From growing up playing, to the minors, majors and now coaching. It's been his full time job for 25+ years. Literally spent 1000s upon 1000s of hours around the game. It's not just "looking the part."
  8. If you are expecting a front office to be right on every player and hit on every player, then yes you shouldn't trust any front office. In reality you probably should be hoping a front office is right more than they are wrong. Even the best front office in the world have a list of players they bet on that failed, draft picks that didn't pan out and players they signed that under performed. I think it's all good and well to question front office moves, but when wrong moves are pounded over and over and over again and the right moves are rarely lauded because you are expecting them to make the correct move each time, you are probably going to have a bad time and be frustrated more than you should be.
  9. Arraez will always be a favorite of mine and I was only luke warm on Pablo when the Twins traded for him. After watching him start hot and fade in May/June, I was worried he was falling into a pattern of being great out of the gate and fading as the season went along. Boy has the last 2.5 months put that to rest, he has looked like a bonafide ace and one of the better pitchers in the game. I do think Arraez's knees long term are still an issue. Just because he hasn't had problems this year, doesn't mean it won't be a problem down the road. I am interested to see what his extension will look like.
  10. I think this is a pretty solid estimate of what we will see. It's pretty crazy the health wise of this roster compared to the roster this time last year.
  11. So would it have been better if say...Pagan gave up the solo HR in the 6th inning? Game still ends 5-4. Still asking the bullpen to pitch lights out for 5+ innings. The Twins never had the lead in this game. Yes, the Rays pen was better than the Twins......AND the Rays had a batter step up and get the big hit, the Twins didn't. The Twins had zero hits after the Kepler triple in the 5th. Jax did hang a pitch to a very good hitter and got burned. I won't deny that, but I am not hanging the loss solely on his head.
  12. If that's the hill you want to do on, then go for it. Neither were good options. FWIW, I would have hit Julien, but wouldn't have expected much.
  13. That he should probably work pretty hard on hitting left handed pitching in the offseason.
  14. I completely agree about hitting Vasquez in that situation, but I'm going to nit pick a little. Julien has 42 PA against lefties in his career and hasn't walked once against a lefty.
  15. And Jax in the 10th when the Twins don't score in the 9th? Have to assume you would see Duran in the 10th if you make it that far. I'm not using Duran in the 9th of a tie game unless you know he can for 2 innings, which..... with pitching yesterday and having 7 Straight games after today doesn't seem smart
  16. This is very over dramatic based on the result of one 3 game regular season series.
  17. The pen gave up 1 run on 3 hits, walked no one and struck out 5 in 5 innings. Overall the pen was pretty damn good today.
  18. I don't like the Vasquez move, but man lot of people piling on Jax. I wouldn't have used Duran in that situation either. You knew that 4 runs wouldn't win this game when Kuechel left after 4 runs in 4 innings. Twins batters didn't get a hit after Kepler's triple tied it in the 5th.
  19. Can't really expect any bullpen to throw 5 scoreless against one of the best offenses in baseball either.
  20. I just don't see how a competing team let's a player of Polanco's caliber walk when he has a decent option to be picked up. He's too valuable when healthy to let go IMO.
  21. Kepler really improved his hitting against lefties last season and kept it rolling through this year, but it did take him a big portion of his career to do it. I don't think it's as much as the Twins being predictable as it was a prime situation for Tampa. 2 run lead in the 5th with 2 lefties coming up. If Diekleman gets Max, I have no doubt in my mind that AK is hitting in the 6th no matter who is pitching. Using Solano, who is much better at hitting lefties there gives you a better shot at the lead. Not to mention Solano doesn't have near as much trouble hitting RHP as AK does hitting LHP, so having him hit against a righty later isn't as big of a deal. If this game is in May, I also think AK gets the AB. With the division title in reach, Rocco choosing to go for the lead earlier in the game seems warranted.
  22. AK just might never be an above average hitter against lefties. .206/.285/.346 for his career and .114/.220/.250 for the season against them. Rocco saw a chance to grab the lead as having Solano up there gave them a much better chance in bringing the run home.
  23. After watching the Kepler triple, why does anyone try to come inside with heat to Max? He thrives on pulling those inner zone fastballs.
