  1. Buxton has had one healthy season If he has 2 in a row he might get the big contract
  2. Does the health of Berrios’ arm follow that of Sale, Santana, and so many others or Verlander and so few others?
  3. So long of season, so few games to make judgements on
  4. Evans had only one season as a 40 hr guy and one season in his 30’s. Yastremski lost his power long before 40. Fisk had one season of 30 plus HR for a career, Musial quit being a HR guy by 37. Comparing them to Cruz is pointless. Bonds wrecked a knee at 40 and wasn’t the same player coming back. The lack of context in the comparison is appalling
  5. I thought I read that many teams will use 6 man rotations. Perhaps there is some Washington Senators fan from the 90s who can remember a team using less than 5 starting pitchers
  6. Regardless of probability he team would be incredibly foolish not to have a solid backup plan for Buxton and Donaldson. A simple look at the player’s recent history would tell a team that. There have been 2 catchers of starting caliber long before the informatics people. Plan B,C,D and E for starting pitchers. They hope no never have to go to “Oh eff “ or Pedro Hernandez. AAAA outfielders keep a job because of potential need. Probability of injury is nice, the preparedness for it is there regardless
  7. Do you think the players are just hoping to sit on their butts for a month. There are a lot of fields for the teams to play on in spring training facilities. They do it all spring, unless there are mass mirages by multiple people. I couldn't tell you if they keep statistics. I would also think it would be safe to assume that they are all being watched, and coached. If you want to think that teams will do mo development of their players for a month, fine. The conditions of last year are not totally repeated.
  8. I do not know why anyone would think there are no spring training games in April for the minor league players
  9. Bryant, Anderson, Judge, Bellinger and Mancini are about the only ones out of that draft class making it. It was a lose draft pretty much at this point
  10. I once read “that being said” following a statement pretty much negates that statement. You can’t negate the person running the team. There is no closer this year.
  11. Throw strikes. One Rick Anderson used to say that,
  12. One thing that people talk about here when looking at statistics are outliers.. The Chicago numbers against weak teams are an outlier.. They lost the division lead when they did not beat the better teams down the stretch. I don’t know if adding Lance Lynn solves that problem. To win the division the Twins best bet would be to have a better than .500 record against the Sox. If they do as last year and win the season series against the other teams they will be in good shape until the playoffs.
  13. Gonzales was polarizing here? Missed that one
  14. Only 3 players project to have an above average bat in the system. Ouch
  15. If they think Kirikkoff is going to be a superstar level they will manipulate service time. I don’t think they expect that level out of him.Given the contracts of the above average players they have extended, another above average outfielder is not going to break the bank, nor has it been that difficult to replace.
  16. It is not just the 5th starter, it is the 5/6/7/8 starter. One does not expect performance issues from their 1-4 starters. Injuries do happen, hence the 6/7 starters Disaster happens. Nagging annoying stuff happens to pitchers. There is a need for an 8th. You do not want 8 starts out of a new version of Pedro Hernandez. Dobnak Smelzer and Thorpe might not be appealing to the management hence the interest in a pitcher likely to cause the team to need number 6 and 7 starter.
  17. It is intended for a different fan base.
  18. Percolate states that they do mot give a number but a range. What is posted but a definite number. Percolate does tend to be more accurate for teams Shorter spring games means less minor league players showing what they can do against other minor league players
  19. I always thought betting lines were about one way or another extracting money out of people. I was wrong. It is about getting you to drink Kool-Aid. Hmm. Rather have a beer.
  20. Mot so long ago Marcus Peery was a candidate, I wonder whatever happened to him
  21. Old school got to the playoffs, new school got to the playoffs. That is a far better than the Mariners this century. They have gone as far as the A’s this century. They have done better than the Padres at getting to the playoffs. Complain all you want about lack of playoff success, that is the nature of baseball.
  22. The management loves sliders. Castro’s lacks depth. Another organization couldn’t fix it in years, why would the Twins be able to. Bryant may be mentally damaged goods at this point. He had the brightest manager in all of baseball, the genius of all geniuses in baseball operations and only 1 trip to the World Series. Now it is not fun. Unmet expectations when you are the big star would not be any fun here, either
  23. WPA and related statistics did not like Brunansky.
