  1. Projections as a team are far more accurate than for individuals
  2. A minor league deal is a wonderful thing. A free look is cheap.
  3. Story for a 5-10 prospect and a 10-20 prospect would make sense. Dealing good prospects to Cleveland does not. Dealing bad prospects to Cleveland does.
  4. I don’t pay for the story, so here is my ignorant take on it. Polanco has bad defensive metrics. It would not be anything other than due diligence to shop for a SS. There is nothing earth shaking there. Realmuto was the last star player that I can think of that was traded. Sanchez was a top ranked prospect, Alfaro is serviceable and a wild card. One year of Lindor or Story should not cost that kind of capital. The good prospect you trade should be the one you do not think is going to reach that potential. The ifs of a Twins deep run in the playoffs was not answered last year. They should not mortgage the future for one year that far from contention.
  5. I think if Arraez does not work at second Polanco would have to shift to second and Lewis comes up.
  6. The tea leaves have predicted Covid isn’t going away any time soon. No fans means less money. The “They don’t care about us” is pretty selfish. Everybody loses in the pandemic. The new owners of FSN playing hardball with the revenue streams. That does not seem out of the ordinary. Where is the they do not care about the fans comment there?
  7. There wasn’t much in the garbage heap that year for 3B. Be happy that he did not spend more. Beltre was about it. Carl wasn’t likely to approve that contract. The context of analytics is pretty moot with that group. Bautista at least had a decent recent ceiling. Wes Helms had his best season ever. I don’t think he would have been on anyone’s radar. I doubt many have heard of him. (Levi, are you still alive to tell me you heard of him?)
  8. The 2018 Twins were going nowhere. Lance Lynn was a sunk cost regardless. The team was not going to put a franchise tag on him. He was going to be gone regardless. They got a player that a change of scenery might benefit. It did not work. Had it worked the Twins would have not been as likely to have signed Cruz. The team in the end won. The Yankees went nowhere in the playoffs with Lynn. Even if nothing became of the prospects, the Yankees got nothing out of Lynn when they needed it. I did not consider the throw in, Rijo has a chance to be something. If he does, it becomes a big win rather than a small win.
  9. Hey man is reporting that Levine turned down the Phillies and got a raise. There is no poaching, there never was
  10. Front office people went elsewhere under the Ryan regime. Kriviski went to be GM from assistant. Coaches always seem to be on the move. About the only coaches under either regime that was promoted to manager was Gardenhite and Molitor. Levine is under consideration. That is not hired. The old regime was what it was. It met the desired goals of Carl Pohlad. The added bonus what’s a competitive team. Yes they lost in the playoffs. Over the same time period the end result was better than what the Reds or Orioles have produced. Keep in mind the core of the current team is still from the previous era
  11. Any free agent it comes down to price tag on signing them. Some players were not in the club’s eyes what they might get in arbitration. In a multi billion dollar industry even a few million here or there matters. Which ones do you sign is still based on the price tag. The top players will get their money. With more bottom tier players available there may be more make good contracts, otherwise know as minor league contract with an invite and an opt out
  12. With bat first players available it does bring the price of Cruz down. It should put some pressure on him to sign before the team moves on. You might not get the same production but the team might be able to add in better pitchers
  13. When Castellanos can get a 4/64 contract there is always a chance as a free agent Rosario could make a big paycheck if a free agent. Granted it would take a mediocre team thinking they are on the cusp of being good. There seems to be one a year. Being non tendered is a risk, but it could be the agent’s game plan A team could give up a few 13-14 ranked prospect types for a year . Again, all it takes is one overly optimistic GM. One year at 10-12 is still cheaper than 16. A trade is always a decent probability The agent could fill strongly about the numbers and think they can win at arbitration and thus not negotiating a team deal. I don’t think a team friendly deal would be in the works.
  14. Escobar turned down an extension with the Twins. There return was more that generous for a half season rental.
  15. The Twins as well as every other club looks for a bargain. Any of them on a minor league contract with an invite would be such the deal that the Twins should look for. Actually improving the club should be the goal
  16. Rooker shares something in common with Dinkleman and Wade. May his career not share their trajectory
  17. Cruz needs runners on base ahead of him and fierce hitting behind him to stand any chance. Does it really matter at the half way part of the season. Gosh, a little hot streak and he could be batting .400
  18. I wouldn't call Bradley an Ace of any type. One great year, a couple of good years makes for a nice pitcher to have, but 2017 laurels are ancient history
  19. I do not think that anyone thought that Celestino would be a superstar.
  20. Bailey to the DL opened a spot I think is how it worked
  21. 08/03/20 Minnesota Twins optioned LF LaMonte Wade Jr to Twins Alternate Training Site. 08/03/20 Minnesota Twins selected the contract of LHP Caleb Thielbar from Twins Alternate Training Site. 08/02/20 Minnesota Twins placed RHP Homer Bailey on the 10-day injured list retroactive to July 29, 2020. Right biceps tendinitis. 08/02/20 Minnesota Twins recalled RHP Sean Poppen from Twins Alternate Training Site. 08/01/20 Minnesota Twins placed RHP Zack Littell on the 10-day injured list retroactive to July 31, 2020. Left hamstring strain. 08/01/20 Minnesota Twins recalled RHP Jorge Alcala from Twins Alternate Training Site.
  22. The pay structure in baseball does not appear to inhibit people from playing the sport. I should have included the post you responded to because his rational was Kyler Murray and football. Does the pay structure of MiLB inhibit diversity? I don't know. I really can't find statistics of the makeup of minor league ball. Does the shorter path to money in sports by playing football or basketball have an impact? I can't even speculate on that one. The socioeconomic status of the families does have an effect on what sports kids play and develop an interest in. MLB does do work in that area. At what point does a kid go from playing a sport for the love of it and it becomes about the money they make?
  23. To compete with the pay structure of pro football the MILB costs would be enormous. Peasant wages, minimal wages, even average for American household income wages does not compete with 35 million.
  24. The issue of front office makeups and player populations are two different issues. The barriers are far different. Front offices are about who is given opportunity. Player percentages is about the talent flowing into baseball. That is a completely different set of circumstances.
