    Has played 255 innings at 1B (36 games) with a fielding % of .992 (2 errors) in 243 chances at 1st. 8 assists and has helped turned 20 DP's. The notion that he has little league fielding skills is far from accurate. Wouldn't trade Miranda at all. 36 games at 1st and has started to settle. So Brock I agree with you for sure

    So Jeffers took an errant bullpen pitch to his throwing hand, played 2 weeks with a small fracture and swollen thumb tendon: hit over .300 in that stretch and threw out a couple of runners to boot. He is definitely a key component of the youth we have on this team. Will he ever hit .250-.275, possibly but he gives the team and Mgmt what they want. Tough break that he got hurt. Sounds like his surgery went well yesterday.

    We shouldn't sell the farm because we won't get a Montas or Castillo type of piece. The top 5-6 clubs in the bigs have assets that will get that type of pitcher. Wouldn't give up a Kiriloff or Miranda but get me a pitcher that can help move Archer/Bundy to the pen or even an Ober to the pen, I'm good with giving up a Larnach and some MiLB combos. Move Sano, Gordon, Urshela and some other MiLB assets and you get a hitter than can be added to the lineup. For instance you get Bell from Nats, you can move Kiriloff to LF and rotate him in at 1B. Celestino can play left on rotational basis or Garlick for that matter. hell Garlick hardly plays now so you can move him as well. Sanchez will no longer DH with Jeffers on IL till September, so backup catcher Hamilton will get maybe on start a game. If you play your regulars5-6 games a week, there are plenty of at bats to go around.

    One of the things I have issue with is how much these guys get so many rest days in the lineup week in week out. Granted we always here that we need to keep them healthy for late season push and playoffs. Way too many times a player (insert any name in lineup) plays a day, gets a day off, plays a day gets already scheduled day off, then another off day and then plays. My goodness, there is no continuity in a players game to rest so many days in a week. When a batter is in a groove and then sits for a day or two straight, no cage session will mirror anything being done on the field. When you throw a "B-lineup" out there when you can go for the sweep dagger or series win, some L's at times are just a given. Jeffers was on a roll in a positive way while playing with a broken thumb on his throwing hand is the tough as nails kind of guy mentality our team needs from all the players. Some have it on this team and some don't. Sucks to lose him for dog days of summer. Sanchez sure better be the guy as he mouthed off he would be in spring training. He gets what he wished for, but has been uninspiring thus far. Bullpen other than a couple bright spots is really bad. Pagan single handily blew 5 swing games vs Guardians where your lead would have been 11-12 games at the time vs just 2.5 now. Granted the lost series to Sox didn't help so let's say the lead is 7-8 games. Starting Pitcher, 2 RP and 1 Hitter are in need. You could say more but have to be realistic with 40 man and other suitors in chasing valuable adds with other teams. Players to move to help get some insurgence of players chasing playoffs that might not be on good teams: Gordon, Urshela, Garlick, Cave and other Milb players that don't have a clear path to Twins roster. To me, nothing is off the table at this point. '22 is a year the fans will gauge are we in or out. Don't sell the farm but for '23 and beyond, but your playoff window is open this year, better take advantage.

    Bell would be interesting for sure. Would not want to see Kiriloff or Miranda moved, they are the future for the twins. Urshela and Sano would have to be part of the package as they are more expendable. Montas arm tightness is a concern so there is a gamble there. Trades can be exciting but huge risks in pitchers who have arm issue(s) on horizon.

    So wonder how many guys get a rest day Saturday or Sunday which will drive me nuts in trying to win games/series. Garver going under the knife to close out his season. So his body has started to fail him, trading him away not a bad deal after all. Reason has been relegated to DH and 3rd on depth chart

    Defining core for me age of player is playing in games. Core group is you pencil them in the lineup daily and you know they will consistently deliver. The way our staff uses players, Arraez is the only hitting, fielding everyday core type of guy. Maybe Polanco at that point is core since he plays often. Buxton should be but injury history and every other day getting a days rest isn't core enough. including Lewis who now has played what about 30 games over the last 2 + years and will maybe see the field for 50 games next year as core player. Can't put him on the list. He hasn't done enough to warrant it. Could he be added win the future sure, but the earliest would be 2025 season as he needs to be established MLB player and play 125-135 + games a year. Pitchers - get the ball every 5th day and do their job and you know what you get. Does he have to be the bulldog ace of staff, should be but doesn't mean has to be Relief pitcher to me if core has to be the Closer, The Guy when you look in the bullpen up a run or two, you know you are winning the game when he trots onto the field. I grew up in MD, so O's of the early-mid 80's is my reference so lets use 83-88 seasons Position Players Cal Ripken: Age 23 to 28 years old. Games played 162 high, low 161. Avg over 600 AB's a season Eddie Murray: Age 27 to 32 years old. Games played 162 high, low 137. Avg over 580 AB's a season Starting Pitcher: Scott McGregor Age 29 to 34 years old. Avg 30+ starts and 220 innings a year (12 complete games in '83 and 260 innings) Relief Pitcher: Torn on this as Sammy Stewart was the so-called set up guy along with Tippy Martinez. They both avg about 58 games a year and 25-30 saves combined a year. Granted different game back then compared to now but you had a core group you knew would answer the call. Right now we have guys that just answer the call and the call isn't enough or is at the wrong time

    Contreras is a nice story but do the twins want a catcher in their 30's on that type of salary? I don't think so. They view catcher as a minimum pay position so to speak and Jeffers fits that bill. Sanchez is a number 1 catcher at all, he isn't lighting the world on fire, barely above .200 and Jeffers is barely below. Give me PITCHING PITCHING PITCHING and not a 30 year old $10MM catcher. money wouldn't be spent wisely on any new hitter at the moment

    Very good read this morning by the posters, not much I can add, did some during the game thread yesterday. Quick take summary from my Western PA seat (Pirates are awful) but they have a couple good arms in the pen would love to see in Twins bullpen Rocco: can't manage this roster or any roster in key moments. No gut feelings, way too analytical and just doesn't have any feel for the live game action and choices. $34MM sitting on the bench with 2 days off coming in 5 days. Why the bleepity bleep isn't he in the lineup starting yesterday, yet alone pitch hitting late. Jeffers passed ball was bound to happen, not because he can't catch but Moran was about 6 inches left and right of strike zone and no where near hitting a target Jeffers showed him. Buxton took a day off at the plate even though he was in the game. He misses Sano so much he is batting like him. Gordon on second base, Miranda walks and Urshela not called onto bunt. I know we don't bunt but my goodness you put the pressure on the defense by bunting the damn ball to move guys over to 2nd and 3rd. But let him swing away and you get what you get by swinging at a pitch in the dirt and way outside.

    Good thing we hit HR's to win the game last night. Once again blow a chance to score in the 1st. Two opportunities: 1st and 2nd with one out. Kepler goes down looking on 3 straight pitches. Another walk to load the bases with two outs and Kiriloff goes down looking on 3 pitches. We continue to waste early game opportunities which will come back and bite us in the you know what. Good one against a bad team, need to go for the sweep and bury teams when you get the chance. Go Twins

    Don't need him back on this roster. He isn't the difference maker and earlier in the year the team chemistry per some players was at it's best from previous years. Clubhouse leadership and mentor to Sano. Sano obviously didn't learn anything from Cruz. Why bring back a bloated DH salary when younger guys are outperforming Father Time? Thanked him for his time last year, not need for a welcome back tour for a true rental player for 2 months

    meaningless to show buxton over 162 game set of numbers, as that is about 2 years worth of baseball from injury prone years. Now if he had a Trout type of year playing 150+, then that would warrant listing those numbers. Buxton maybe at 5 on this list nothing higher. I could be wrong but I don't think he has one hit as a PH this year, not the end all measure but it does reflect trust or being clutch.

    Simple answer is time to move on. Wish him the best but by no means is even close to $14MM a year, especially with younger guys filling in nicely at 1st. He would be an overpriced DH, rotation guy that Twins can use his money for pitching. Pat him on the back and wish him the best of luck somewhere else

    Crucial role with passed ball in loss, not crucial. It wasn't the tying run, it wasn't the tying run. Sanchez is not a great catcher, Jeffers is better. Yes we can agree he should have caught the ball. Crucial in these Twins losses are Pagan throwing up all over himself and this team blowing very easy winnable games vs these Guardians. Crucial key moments in a game to capitalize on opportunities and Twins don't do it. Don't get me started on everyone loving Arraez for his bat, but in the 1st on hit ball that isn't a double play ball he throws it into camera well to gift a another run. He is a hitter but his fielding other than 1st isn't good. 6-5 with 2 outs and 2 strikes a fastball with no movement right down broadway for walk off homer. Fastball up in zone was un-hittable.     Being a professional coach has been hanging out there as the end job of all jobs in a particular sport. You have hit the pinnacle in coaching if you are at the professional level. Money is important but deep down if your heart says I enjoy the college game more than the professional one and an opportunity arises, you listen. If you like what you hear, you make a choice. Deep down, maybe college game is where he feels he can make bigger impact on a 18-22 year old vs the professional money of a ball player. Just maybe, he is happier. I'm not concerned about timing of it as an opportunity knocked and he said yes. Good for him

    Buxton, when healthy your most dynamic "best" player on the team. History of ailments coming to fruition again after signing his big $100MM Guaranteed Contract. Damned if you do, damned if you don't signing. Arraez/Correa's team at the moment with Polanco and Buxton walking wounded. Buxton DH experiment and playing 3 days a week isn't $100MM worth it. He needs to be on the field, not DH, 5-6 games out of 7. History says that will never happen.

    Playing college baseball back in my day at Univ of Maryland, our coaching staff blasted us for failing to get a bunt down 3 times in a game as a team that we lost the day before by score of 1-0. So guess what we did. He put us in position groups, all pitchers went 1st, then outfielders, then infielders including catchers. Our slowest guys on the team ran the bases in situations: guy on 2nd no outs to move him over. You could bunt or hit to right side of diamond. If you swung and didn't hit it to right side it was a fail and the portion group got dinged for it. 2 hour practice and this is all we did. Coaches figured out who could do it, or better feel was who cared to do it. He narrowed each position group down to one guy from each. Rest of the year, he knew he had at least 3 guys who could do it and they were pitch hitters in the situation that called for it. Final 33 games of the year, we successfully sacrificed ourselves for the team by converting 18 straight times resulting in 17 runs scored from 3rd base or suicide squeeze. If you don't work on it, never comes easier. Big league players get paid to play the game and I don't care how much they make. Do the job!

    So Gordon tries to steal on an 0-2 count and Cleveland throws high fastball to throwing arm side of the plate where the catcher can easily come out of crouch and throw a bullet to get him out. Let me say this again, he ran on an 0-2 count. Baseball IQ? Just plain dumb baseball.

    Situational - fundamental baseball is lacking at managerial level. Applying pressure on the pitcher and defense. Bunting, moving a guy over to 3rd by sacrificing yourself for the betterment of the Team isn't Twins mantra. When a manager analyzed the crap out of game via his laptop and then can't adjust on the fly with his gut instincts, you get the result we got last night. Chicks love the the long ball, Bomba crap but when you can't manufacture many runs or a key run to win a game by not going yard, you lose majority of the games.

    So when Sanchez was on the shelf, Jeffers I believe played in like 10 of 12/13 games with Godoy as backup. During that stretch, he wasn't elite but I think he hit close to .275 or so during that stretch. What that tells me is he was getting daily reps. Getting daily reps at his age gives you some confidence, gives you some repetition and potential puts you in a groove. Every other day or every other 2 days doesn't. Not making excuses for Ryan, but hitting in a cage or BP vs live arms does make a difference. I still like what we are getting from him with the amount of day to day inconsistency he has gotten.

    So does Gordon or Arraez now become a trade asset at the deadline to make some upgrades to chase a post season birth? Lewis doesn't quite have the versatility as either, Miranda maybe but not quite. I think the key to this is Larnach, Kiriloff and Garlick. Who sticks in the OF when healthy and does Kiriloff make Arraez odd man out?

    Kirilloff hand/wrist injury is a long term concern for me. Hasn't been the same for almost closing in on a year (counting off-season) and has lost power in his swing. So he may be in AAA for weeks to come until fully healthy. How will we describe full healthy when you need your wrists/hands for a swing? Bright future for him when last year but what is the future now going to look like. Here is hoping he can be back to pre injury but not sure that will happen

    When you look at tonight you have to appreciate the solid foundation of youth on this team and potentially for many years to come. Blend that in with veterans and mix and match hot bats to help offset the cool bats and wins are possible. I have always believed in pitching and defense is the key to 2/3rds of your win totals and offense mashing the ball to offset a bad pitching day get's you the remainders for your the year. Fun, fast game to watch. Ready baseball just like ready golf. Keep the wheels rolling and finish the tigers off today.
