Thanks Tim , I really like trade talk so I really enjoyed going over your article. You did an excellent job presenting your case and you hit our needs right on the head. Yet IMO Snell is over-hyped. Snell had success in the shorten season, I don't give any credence in that, only in a full season. IMO he isn't any better than what we have, yet will be much more expensive. I was really hoping that Campusano would materialize but I think he's over-hyped. When they say they don't know if he'd stick at catcher, for me that raises red flags. Jeffers is a hitting catcher, he has just learned some bad mechanics and even with his bad arm I still take him over Sanchez. I still have a bad taste from the Rogers/ Paddack trade and I'm very leary of any trade with them. Besides if I'd trade Kepler it'd have to be a for an established front line SP, that can help us right now not an iffy catcher that might help us in the future. Last year I advocated for Musgrove, that away from PIT he'd really blossom. PIT offered us Musgrove and all it'd have taken was a simple counter offer but that didn't happen. Later SD stole him away from PIT.

Agreed we need to at least replace the veteran closer that we gave away #1. A solid front line work horse SP #2, I'm not as concerned about our offense especially with Kiriloff coming back. Our offense seems to go flat and unmotivated against poorer team. At post season I believe our offense will be motivated to win if everyone is strong, healthy & refreshed. My 3rd choice is catching, and not only short term. I've never been satisfied with Jeffers with his arm and his hitting is especially sporatic lately.

The Yankee's pinstripes evoke respect. To commerate the anniversary of the Twins World Series victories and try to regain the winning feeling, the Twins FO brought back the baby blues. The FO didn't researched what they were doing because the baby blues represents the era that the Twins were so bad and when they were most ridiculed. The very year they terminated that uniform was the year they won the WS. Twin's baby blues evoke lack of respect.

I'm not a big fan of Jeffers but Sanchez isn't the solution either (I'd prefer Jeffers). Trading catchers at mid season might not be a good idea but I salvate when I think of Daulton Varsho. He's an athletic ARI LH hitting catcher who can play CF as well. He's got a good arm, good hitter and he's ranked high defensively but IDK the specifics. He has 4.7 yrs. availability so he'll be expensive. ARI still wants to compete so maybe we can trade catchers with other players like Kepler. ARI might not be willing to trade him either. IDK if Hou is willing to trade Castro but I'd like to find a Castro type catcher.

Twins Getting Solid Work from a Former Ace
Doctor Gast replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thanks Ted for bringing this fact to us. An interesting fact I heard was Archer's ERA w/ Jeffers is under 2 (including the LAD & NYY games) while w/ Sanchez it's over 6 and Godoy over 4. I believe Archer's FB still tops out at 95/96 but fades longer he pitches. Archer has 5 pitches - slider, 4sFB, change up, curve and sinker. His FB & slider have been rated as elite (his slider his best) his change up is well above average. Although his change up is inferior to his FB/slider, IMO his change up could be very effective latter in the count as a SO pitch to mix up it up, not in the beginning of the count. I'd love it if Santana could help him to perfect that pitch he could be awsome. Archer's production will continue become better, stronger & more efficent he gets. Very happy that he can pitch 5 innings now. But Archer's greatest contribution is not his production but the chemistry and mentorship he provides to the young arms.- 20 replies

4 Shortstop Options for the 2023 Twins
Doctor Gast replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Finally, I really like our position at SS, we are pretty flexible, even with Lewis's injury. If we can work out a deal with CC fine, if not we can go with Palacio and Gordon until Lewis is 100%. I've always advocated Palacio, he plays a pretty good SS and his bat will eventually come around. I'm also a fan of bringing up Palacio to sub CC now, he also played a lot of utility while Lewis was in AAA, While up he'll learn a lot from CC- 34 replies

Were the Twins Wrong About Ryan Jeffers?
Doctor Gast replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like Jeffers but I haven't seen him as our future catcher. I've always thought Garver as our now catcher and Rortvedt as our future catcher, I advocated as Jeffers as the one to trade because of his much greater trade value and find a Castro type to back Garver until Rortvedt is ready for MLB hitting . I didn't like his arm and he's been one of many victims that have adapted to the moonblast mentality and has been one of the last to over come this. I'm not totally crazy how Jeffers handle pitchers. Yet I still like him much better than Sanchez in this aspect. -
The Potential Cost of Acquiring Pitching in Trades
Doctor Gast replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This isn't a good time to trade Kiriloff. After his struggles with his wrists his trade value has nose dived. Kiriloff will come back and his value will jump right back where they should be. Martin, Balazovich, Miranda are good players with good trade value, any 2 of these plus a lesser prospect should get it done for Montas. I think we couldn't get enough for Steer, Miller, E Rod and maybe SWR, so I wouldn't consider them for a trade.- 41 replies

Twins 6, Rays 5: Arraez Slam Leads Twins over Rays
Doctor Gast replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It was a great game that started mainly our B & C squad. Arraez's slammer was amazing. After Chi Chi got settled in, he did pretty well. We could use a spot starter & long relief, I IDK why Chi Chi was DFAed. I don't think they'll trade for anyone soon, although it'd be nice.- 76 replies

Partial ACL Tear Ends Lewis's Season... Again!
Doctor Gast replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
We need Lewis, wish him another speedy recovery and come back stronger & better than ever, I'm super frustrated with the decision of placing Lewis in the OF. 3B, 2B or I can see where we can safely have keep his bat in the line-up but OF, we are well manned there and it's a risky position especially for some one who just came back from major knee surgery. And what equally gets me is after Lewis's injury, Baldelli stated that he Lewis will return to the OF as soon as he gets better. It befuddles me how Baldelli, after he makes a bonehead mistake he'll keep on doubling (or more) down on it. -
Can Nick Gordon Carve Out a Niche Role on the Twins?
Doctor Gast replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great job Matt! I was one who advocated for trading Gordon when he was in AAA as SS, and his trade value was much higher and his value for the Twins was low. But now that his trade value is low, he is invaluable to the Twins as a 3rd CF and now SS. His presences will keep Kepler & Polanco in their productive positions. I had figured him as eventually become an average SS both offensively & densively, somewhere else. But his batting is above average now and I envision him to develop into a better hitter & OF longer he is in MLB. To be a serious contender we need at least need 3 deep quality players at CF & SS. Gordon provides that. -
Three Reliever's That Could Work Into High Leverage
Doctor Gast replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My idea of long relief is pitching 3-4 innings. I'd limit Duran to 1 inning because how they are using him and his history. Jax and Cotton can be used for at least 2 innings but spot SPs Winder, Gonzalez and I'd put Ober in this group because I'm guessing Bundy would have difficulty adapting to relief and would be better suited at opener. Again I'd love 5 work horses that can go 6+ but we don't have them. Now days they are hard to find with all this attention on high velo & spin rate, most pitchers can't go more than 5 through out the season. The name of the game in MLB is adapting and those who will not change their mindsets will be left in the dust. The only SP that they've used right is Archer. In the beginning he was considered the weak link but right now he's the only one who is healthy & effective. He's at 5 innings and eventually he'll go 6 or more. The others of the orignal 7, are on the IL or their arms are dead. We are are in a severe bind with Bundy, if we weren't in such a bind in fielding SPs, we should put Bundy on a 10 day IL and start him back slowly as an opener. Hoping that he'll bounce back to his prior self. The others are still on the IL and should be brought back slowly when they return. Therefore needing long relief. Last night Smeltzer should have been pulled after 6, his arm was dead coming into 7 and we didn't gain anything by leaving him in but lost plenty. Hopefully his arm will bounceback & he'll give you another 6 inning game. But if we continue to squeeze another inning out of him eventually we'll lose him too. We've been having a lot of problems with injuries and dead arms for a few years now especially entering post season. Many say "Oh, it's bad luck" I say "it's bad management".- 17 replies

Three Reliever's That Could Work Into High Leverage
Doctor Gast replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thank you Cody for giving us some hope there in the BP. Hope all of them work out in some way or another. After losing Rogers we desperately need a compliment to Duran. Baldelli has way over used our short relief, he needs to get out of his mind set and establish a regiment of long relief especially with the rotation we have. With Cotton's repertiore he could be part of the calvery to help support us until our burned out and injured pitchers get back on their feet. Again the answer to spare a weak, injured and burned out short relief isn't extending a weak arm rotation, that'll end up with a burned out & injured rotation. It's establishing a long relief corp to extend the game to the closer or even complete the game, that's the purpose of long relief. This is what the FO suggested in the beginning of the off season, ignoring long relief has in the past & will continue to bring disaster.- 17 replies

We can learn a lot from history. Aside from that, recently TB is known for pitching development and we have done well from obtaining their pitchers. On the other hand we are more known for our hitters yet our hitters haven't fared well there. Palacio was a good hitter w/ us but he moved next door to TB (same league) but couldn't hit a lick. Cruz flourished with us but could do much for TB. I'm willing to do any trade with TB if it's not a headline pitcher.

Is Austin Martin Minnesota’s Best Trade Chip?
Doctor Gast replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Flexibility like Chris Taylor not Luiz Arraez, provides decent depth at multiple positions -
I'm with you we need a future catcher. I'd like if the Twins could land Parada. In Jeremy's top 10 he fell from 5 to 7. I forget which team is right before us but hope they value a different player ahead of him.

I am happy that Cave is doing well at StP. I don't have anything against Cave, I think he's an OK back up corner OF. But my gripe is with management that they wanted him as a back up at CF for so many years. He blocked FO from going out and getting a legit CF back up from outside the organization and even inside the organization, I deemed better. If Cave is promoted to the club. I'll have nightmares of Cave put in CF ahead of Celestino and Gordon. Again I'm happy for Cave and wish him well there. Yet I don't ever see him realisticly called up with all the players that have been allowed to shine ahead of him. Keep him in AAA or trade him for a RP

Bundy Burning Through His Welcome
Doctor Gast replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Mad loves his horses in AZ, he might have a no trade clause. I wouldn't want him anyway. Bundy has a weak arm, he's dependent on trying to get his velo up to an acceptible level and work on location. Bundy shouldn't ever be allowed to go over 5 innings. Over 5 his arm weakens & velo quickly comes down and stays down. With a weak arm he has trouble with location which makes pitches very hittable. At the start of the season, he was doing great because his arm was fresh, He started bragging how strong he was. Shortly after he was extended to 6 & 7 innings you see his decent because arm could not sustain those early results. My advice (which many will not like) is dial him way back and let let his arm get rested up. Then keep him at a 5 inning limit. That what we got when they signed him, sorry. -
Is Austin Martin Minnesota’s Best Trade Chip?
Doctor Gast replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I love Martin's flexibility densively (which I value a lot), hitting & OBP plus I believe his power could eventually come around. But now since we are pretty set in the OF with Buxton, Celestino and Gordon in CF, Kepler, Larnach, Kiriloff, Celestino and Gordon at the corners. SS we have Correa, Lewis, Palacios and Gordon with a plethora of options at 2B & 3B. So that's make Martin very available. We have a very depleted rotation and much needed high end SP. We have also a self inflicted need for a extra closer and starting catcher. Where Martin would be maybe a valuable and most expendable trading piece. -
Although Archer's change-up isn't as good as his 4SFB or slider but IMO when he's in a SO situation if he could mix in his change-up at these times, he could generate more SOs and keeps the batters guessing

This the best game I've seen for a long time! Everything worked great (the defense could have been better but we were able dodge those bullets). We had great pitching and the offense stepped up and we didn't even need Duran. I was really impressed how Archer reached out to Gordon after he flubbed a double play that would have gotten him out the inning sooner, Archer & Correa add a lot to the chemistry & mentoring the younger players. Archer and Correa will produce greatly for this team but the extra production they draw from the rest of the team will pay dividends for years to come. Another note Archer will always praise his catchers no matter what, Archer's ERA with Jeffers is less than 2.00 , Sanchez is over 6,00, not sure what his ERA is with Godoy. We shown what kind team we are! If the Gray,Winder, Ober and Bundy hadn't been over stretched causing injury & dead arms. We would have had them to sweep the Yankees.

Great article! This STUFF sounds pretty interesting. Hope they do give Megill a chance, waiting for Alcala to comeback and add to the back end of the BP. We really need some one who can come in especially in high leverage situations besides Duran that we can count on. Trading for some one could be a option also.

I didn't think we had a chance with Sands pitching. But with the help of the offense led by Polanco they were able keep us close with the chance to win until Duffy & co. showed up. Hope for a win tonight

Ranking the Twins Designated Hitters So Far
Doctor Gast replied to Peter Labuza's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Revealing article Peter! Thanks. It shows what our priorites should be. Byron DHs when he's hurt not because he needs a break from CF. I agree if he shouldn't play CF odds are he shouldn't be DHing either no matter how much the fans want to see him. Jeffers is a bad hitter so if he's not catching he should be sitting not DHing. When the Twins face LHPing, Garlick's bat is a weapon to be used in DH or PH situations. Garlick's glove is the worse option in the OF but it's adequate in a pinch while facing LHPing definitely not RHPing. Stats show that he bats better at DH than when at RF. Larnach and Arraez should bat at DH to keep their bats in the line up when Kiriloff comes back. Sanchez has made strides in catching yet I'd still prefer Jeffers there and keep Sanchez at DH. Sanchez is a little above avg. at DH and a little below avg. at catcher but he hits well in clutch situations.- 10 replies
