  1. I remember that everyone wanted to trade Buck for Thor. Agree with Karbo that a closer is priority. We should go after a frontline SP before looking at Thor. Towards the end of the deadline Thor should still be available. With management ignoring long relief, they'll have to over extend Thor and his velo will continue to drop. Under this premise, I'd pass on Thor.
  2. Moran is a bright spot in the dismal BP (except Duran & Jax) and should be used more. But you highly exaggerate when you say he's more imortant than Archer, Smeltzer and Winder.
  3. I think Rogers could do very well in a change of scenery. But he'll still come expensive, most likely more than this club is willing to part with. Love to bring home U of M star, Meyers but could he quickly mature into that frontline SP that we need ? It'd be nice, Bass is a must.
  4. Cubs check off a few boxes, a closer Robertson, catcher Contreras, OF Happ and a starter Stroman. I agree with your priority Robertson is a must, Contreras is needed, Stroman is worth taking a close look at and his trade value could make it worthwhile even if Cubs buy him down. If Happ is a Cave type CF I'd pass but if it's on the same level as Gordon I'd bite.
  5. Since MIA is on the bubble, they might consider to trade Nardi with maybe Bass for a bat. I like these type of prospect that could turn around if given an opportunity. Duran has proven himself his rookie year, maybe Nardi could make that jump into MLB as as a BP arm this year.
  6. Yes Duran as an opener is a head scratcher. He must be really wanting to get back into starting and followed by Gray. It doesn't make any sense. I agree that Polanco, Correa, Kiriloff, Miranda and normally Sano takes off the 2nd half. Buxton, Arraez and Duran should remain steady. If long relief is incorperated the rotation will return to greatness. And Archer will continue to improve w/ each start.
  7. Our FO loves to be courted so they love to be sellers and have done well there. To inniate trades I'm more leary although they picked up Romo, which was a small trade but helped out a lot. We need a complimentary closer to Duran, a front line SP and a catcher would be nice. I hope they're up to it.
  8. I was hoping to get to get a catcher higher up but I've been very impressed by Cossetti. His atitude, hitting, arm and his focus on his game calling. I really like Cossetti especially in which slot we selected him. Wish him well.
  9. If Montas goes too high, I'd go with Mahle
  10. Montas looked good in his 1st outing, I'm not really worried about him but he needs to be thoughly checked out unlike Paddack. If Oakland likes Steer, it's a good start. The return depends on Montas health. No matter I'd invest in him.
  11. Plus we could get Alcala and maybe Maeda back to help out the pen. That's not including any closer or frontline SP that we could pick up.
  12. We need to take full advantage of having Correa, to go all the way. Extention talks won't start until after the season. If we are stupid enough to trade him we won't get much for him.
  13. Yes it's arithmetic capable long relief covers for 3 incapable short relief. Incorporate long relief corp regularly, that has been neglected, will take off the stress from both the rotation & short relief. You implement 3 extra innings from long relief that has been there before you don't need to squeeze extra innings from the rotation and not have to rely so heavily on short relief. 4 long relief pitchers goes a long ways. Long relief are spot starters are just as much like the extention of the rotation as the BP. With long relief we can drop a few of the incapable short RPs. 4 long RPs can eat alot of innings
  14. We have to by pass our preferance and go with what we have and what works. I'd love to have 5 heaithy studs that can regular complete games but we don't have anyone that comes close, Or have 10 reliable BP arms to plug regularly into a 5 pitcher game, we have 1 (Duran) maybe Jax, So trying to force our preferance into a formula that can't work is futile, We have 3 rookies which concensus is to limit their innings, our other SPs don't profile to pitch 6+ consecutive inning games. Trying to squeeze an extra inning or 2 has been disasterous. But we do have 4 establish SPs (Ryan, Grey, Bundy & Archer) and 4 spot starters/ long RPs (Ober, Winder, Smeltzer and Cotton). So the formula should be SP goes 5-6 innings / long relief goes 3 innings where they hand off to a closer or complete the game if need be. So Is Baldelli pulling the SP too soon? I say no, he's leaving in SPs too long to help out the over relied short relief
  15. Although I like Montas & Castillio better, I think Mahle is more realistic. We have redundant prospects, it only makes sense to trade them to fill our needs in closer, SP and catcher.
  16. I like this deal and do it although I doubt that he'd resign with us and that the Reds would take it.
  17. I was totally against the Paddack trade from the beginning. Paddack had elbow problems for awhile was advised to have tommy john but he opt out for a stem cell treatment. SD tried to push him off on NYM but they looked at him & said no. Montas has only a mild sore shoulder. Of course we can't take their word for it like SD. Montas should be fine but he needs to be looked at carefully. With the minor arm problem we could get some kind of discount. We have time to wait for him to get 100% if indeed it's minor
  18. Bench has been a big problem for the Twins especially at SS and CF. But this year we've had great back ups where there isn't a big drop off and we still have a chance to win a game when the starter has been out. I believe our bench is one of the main reason why we are in 1st place in the Central. Catcher was our deepest position is now our weakest.
  19. I like the Montas & Bard trade best, they are very doable and needed. Contreras & Robertson (Cubs) trade would be interesting.
  20. Since they traded Rogers, our greatest need is a complimentary closer to Duran. But our greatest move we need to take is to establish our long relief. We can pick up a closer, a frontline SP and a catcher but if we continue to depend the likes of Duffy, Pagan, Smith & Co. and over extend our rotation, our pitching will be a disaster much like it has been. We need to replace Duffy, Pagan, Smith & Co. with long relief (Winder, Smeltzer, Ober & maybe Cotton). Contrary to many thinking of over extending our SPs profiles or "their" mindset of over relying on short relief is not the answer. Having the rotation pitch 5-6 innings, then have long relief pitch 3 innings, then handing the ball to closer or if need be complete the game. This we can by-pass our questionable RPs and leave them for mop up. Long relief will keep everyone fresh & strong ready to compete in the rest of the season & post season. We have a great line up with addition of Correa, a very good rotation and an excellent rookie closer, we need to go for it and not punt. We have a redundancy in prospects that we can use for trade bait.
  21. I think Lopez is a good choice. MIA is very strong in their rotation and they have very good SPs like Sanchez & Meyer coming up. Where MIA is weak is their line up. They are on the bubble so they could be serious about competing. They might consider Kepler & Theilbar together with Steer. Then we'll have be serious about getting more high leverage relievers.
  22. Hitting contest would be more interesting to me than the HR Derby, I never watch them
  23. I like our #1 & #2 pick, but since we didn't pick a catcher in those slots. Were there any catchers available at #68 slot? I'd prefer a catcher there. How about Brady Neal, he looks pretty good to me.
