I don't think there is much to re-evaluate here, just a continued progression. Miranda's 2022 bat earned him an opportunity this year, but there was always a question about his ability to stay at 3B. Farmer was brought in both as a stopgap SS possibility (before the Correa signing) and as a backup plan for Miranda. The Twins have currently have a surplus of upper-end middle infield prospects. Logic dictates that one or more of them will see some heavy reps at 3B to allow some positional flexibility in the future. The discussion of Correa to 3B started the moment he signed here (as he was willing to move to 3B for the Mets). Miranda should not be written out of the story yet, MLB is littered with quality players that bounced between AAA and the majors before sticking. The hope is that he figures it out.

Batting Average is the worst offensive statistic in baseball
Fire Dan Gladden commented on arby58's blog entry in Arby58
As with most stats in baseball, BA is not an end-all, rather a piece of a much larger picture. You don't look at BA in a vacuum, you look at the other offensive stats around it to determine value. I don't think a "Gallo vs Arraez" type hitter is an either/or argument. Both types of hitters have pros and cons. You wouldn't necessarily want 9 Arraez bats or 9 Gallo bats in the lineup, you want a mixture of both. Runs scored and RBI's are not great indicators of individual offensive value as they greatly rely on the hitters around you. -

Considering this is a bench guy thrown into a mainly starting role due to injuries, I am not ready to totally cut bait here. With his recent slump and overall small sample size, he really isn't that far off from what we signed him for (insert Denny Green GIF here). I have bigger concerns about Gordon and how much longer they are going to continue to ride that train wreck.

The Twins Lineup Presents a Silver Lining
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The optimist in me sees so many underperforming players that you have to think the only direction they can go is up. That is fun to say when you are in 1st place and 3.5 games ahead (albeit in a terrible division). It is interesting how injuries continue to play a huge part in how the offense has rolled so far this year. Kiriloff, Polanco, Kepler, Farmer, not even looking at the pitching staff. So much luck is required to be a viable WS contender. Injuries play a huge part of that.- 22 replies

This isn't about lineup makeup or roster makeup. When 10 of your 13 position players hitting below expectations, in some cases drastically below, it looks ugly. Just like last year's injury issues were not really the fault of the trainer, this magnitude of bad offense is not really the fault of the hitting coach. That being said, change for the sake of change may be necessary to provide a scapegoat and provide a new voice.

Baseball is Bringing the Best Rule Change Yet
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
They will get the tinkering done on strike zone specifics relatively soon. I am surprised that there has been no discussion of wearable tech through this process. Something sewn and visible on the outside of the uniform should make the high-low calls easier to make. The argument against that would be the possibility of cheating, but I think there would be ways around that, especially if you made the punishment extremely harsh (like automatic 2 year suspension first offense, massive fines to the team, etc.). You will neve see public accountability on umpires. It doesn't happen in any of the major sports.- 70 replies

Is Bailey Ober Sustainable?
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Ted Wiedmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Ober is what most of the Twins SP in the minors are looking to be: quality mid-rotation starters. That isn't necessarily a bad thing. -

Twins Daily Hitter of the Month - April 2023
Fire Dan Gladden commented on Matthew Taylor's article in Twins
Positive comments on Gallo and Kepler!!?? Gotta stop, too many heads will explode. Rough month for the offense in general. Gallo, Kepler, Taylor, and Jeffers are exceeding expectations, but their initial bar was so low that really isn't saying much. Slow starts from most everybody outside of Polanco and Solano. How much more rope are Nick Gordon and Will Castro going to get?- 6 comments

It is nice to be able to have a positive discussion when trying to make this choice. Lot's of interesting questions on Sonny Gray's future best saved for a different thread, but he is definitely blowing it out of the water so far this year. Just enjoying the ride... Not really hearing much about Sonny Gray in the clubhouse, but I wonder what type of impact he is having on the Joe Ryan's of the world (positive or negative)?

As others have stated, the 0-4 record doesn't tell the complete story here. Until yesterday, he was pitching pretty well. Barring something major, Maeda will be given more opportunities this year, as he should. The fact that we-as-fans are arguing about which pitchers in the minors should be pitching in the majors is a great problem to have and not one we are used to.

Edouard Julien’s Triple-A Improvement Checklist
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I think where Julien sees the bulk of his time could be telling. If they play him at 2B, it tells me that they may be ready to move on from Polanco (after the season?). If they play him at 1B, they are tabling the Polanco discussion and really trying to find him a position that will get him reps this season. There really isn't another "position of need" at the moment. -
Joe Ryan is looking more and more like the 2nd coming of Brad Radke. Not an elite, but a 1-2 workhorse that gives the Twins a chance to win almost every night. Really fun to watch him coming into his own.

I really like what the Twins are trying to do. Locking up four of your strongest players for multiple years is a good start. From a core standpoint, it is hard to add to this list right now: Polanco and Kepler are on the back end of their time here, guys like Ober, Gallo, Miranda, are still in prove-it mode. The rest is unproven youth

Reviewing the Josh Donaldson Trade
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
https://www.reddit.com/r/Torontobluejays/comments/pqu2kl/why_is_josh_donaldson_considered_a_locker_room/ https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10849549/Yankees-Aaron-Judge-slams-teammate-Josh-Donaldson-Jackie-Robinson-remarks-Tim-Anderson.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59JPOTMbZ0E&t=8s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EIIsFTMpmY That took about 60 seconds. I am not going to use the phrase clubhouse cancer, but he does not exactly work himself into the good graces of his teammates.- 44 replies

Reviewing the Josh Donaldson Trade
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
At the time, the Donaldson signing was optimistic. The Twins making a play on an high level player at a position of need. Injuries really robbed the Twins of getting true value out of him as a player, though he was very effective when he did play. Donaldson's clubhouse woes are well documented. The addition by subtraction with Donaldson was very real. Trading Donaldson allowed the Twins some financial flexibility which tipped the dominoes to a handful of moves. I wouldn't really call this a win in the traditional sense, but I do think the signing and then moving of Donaldson opened the door for us to make power play moves like Grey and Correa.- 44 replies

Tough Decisions Are On Deck for the Twins
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Nick Gordon is a 4A player at best. Very replaceable. That being said, I do not think he has reached the end of his rope. But I do think he will go before Kepler. We are starting to get far enough into the season where performance decisions start being made. It will be interesting to see how long they stay the course before making some internal moves... -
Why do I get the feeling that Pagan could have had 20 good outings, then this one, and people would still be calling for his head. No apologist here, but one outing does not a season make

Reinforcements Are Coming, Who Loses Out?
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Agreed, but I think some context is warranted. Kirilloff and Lewis need to be viewed a little differently due to injuries. I know there are studies out there somewhere, but it would be interesting to see an updated report on how the Twins match up against all of baseball on recent draft success.- 65 replies

Reinforcements Are Coming, Who Loses Out?
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You said if he is in the minors in July he is basically out. I disagree with that premise. I don't believe a strong decision will be made on him until the end of the year. That includes giving him a wide berth in AAA this season if needed. This could all be moot it he smashes, but the Twins have never been a club to churn through prospects. We may just have to disagree here.- 65 replies
