  1. Everybody calling for a house clearing... You are expecting that the following regime would be better. Far from a sure thing. A regime change is a change in approach and culture and can take many years to see results. Watch what you ask for...
  2. In a bubble, this is probably true. But with the cupboard relatively bare in the minors at the moment, would you have rather seen them overpay for Tommy Pham? Tommy might give the Twins 1 win? This low bar you are referring to always comes at a cost. While I don't agree with this line of thought, they are probably feeling a little hammered after last year's moves. The Twins biggest issue is 75% of the players they have are not playing to the level they should be. That is not going to be fixed by a minor deadline deal.
  3. Careful with this type of take Possum, it doesn't involve cutting bait after 100 games... Yes he is having a bad year. He, along with most of the rest of the offense. Correa (and Buxton) is not going anywhere. Would be interesting to know what (if any) things may be impacting him: Minor injuries? Change in approach? Are they pitching him differently because of the lineup around him?
  4. I saw the title and couldn't help myself. It is like driving past a car accident. I mean I know this article is just trying to wring every last drop out of the Pagan discussion clickamania, but I just couldn't help myself...
  5. Between Maeda and Gray, I have always thought that Maeda was an extension candidate. Yes, he is older, but I think he fits into the Twins 3 year plan pretty well. When healthy, he has been successful and he has shown enough flexibility to do what ever the Twins ask of him. He would also be relatively inexpensive and a known product. I think the chances of Keuchel being on the big leaguer roster before the deadline are pretty high. If there wasn't a visible path to the roster, he would have opted out at the first time.
  6. Looking at the roster and the names coming back, here is what I would do: I would be looking to move Gallo (yes he has value) and Larnach specifically. Polanco would be tough to move just coming off the IL. Farmer and Taylor are too important to this year's team and should not be moved. Kepler is not going anywhere. I would be very surprised to see Gray or Maeda moved. Gray has regressed over the last month+, but like it or not, he is still their horse. I believe Maeda is an extension candidate, so I do not see them moving him either. The other fringe guys (Wallner, Martin, half a dozen AAA SP) could be moved for the right prices. Just don't want to see an overpay.
  7. Trading Buxton so quickly after the extension would mean they are giving up on him. I do not believe the Twins are ready to do that yet. Imagine the kickback on selling low on Buxton, only to have him healthy and killing it somewhere else... Like it or not, Buxton will be a Twin for a long time
  8. The Taylor Swift theory is real! You already addressed the Joe Ryan handsomeness issue. You know all the Swiftees (or whatever they call themselves. Swiftites?) are looking for the next great breakup song. I heard the title of her next song to be released is "Striking out in love". This is not a coincidence...
  9. Again, this is what I am talking about. You aren't reading what I am typing. The positive items were already listed in the article. I said when Jax was bad, there was not the vitriol that Pagan receives. The comments on Pagan are more emotional and less based on his performance. Continuing this thread is fruitless when you don't even read or consider the other pieces.
  10. You know this is coming... Don't bring facts to an emotional argument
  11. I will "enlighten" you, but nothing I say will change your opinion. What I am saying is it does not matter what facts are brought up supporting Pagan. The article itself listed many statistical positives that Pagan has brought to the table this year. Since this was brought up by Kenny Powers: Pagan WPA = -0.09 G. Jax WPA = -0.08 That stat will be ignored by many posters, or circumvented by other posters by changing the context. All year long Jax has not gotten any where near the vitriol that Pagan has gotten, even when Jax was BRUTAL the first month of the year. Pagan is not Prime Joe Nathan, but he is also not Terry Felton. I fully anticipate a whole bunch of "Yeah, but" comments...
  12. 1) To anybody nervous about making moves this year because last year's moves did not work out the way you would have liked, there is a reason why you are posting here and not working for an MLB club. Your trade currency is people, not robots or baseball cards. You can't assume everything works or that you will win every move (unless you are Tampa Bay). 2) Buxton, Correa, Ober, Ryan, and Duran are probably the only untouchable names on the roster. Everyone else could be had for the right price. That doesn't mean those other players will be traded, but they would be in a discussions (the Twins would not turn down Gray and Kiriloff for Spencer Strider for example.) 3) Team culture plays a much larger role than is ever publicly discussed. Moves made will impact the clubhouse and on field play. 4) I have said this elsewhere, do not downplay the return of Lewis, Polanco, Thielbar, and Stewart. That is a huge shift in roster makeup.
  13. Feels more of a net-neutral trade. One guy with issues for another guy with issues, both teams hoping that a change of scenery will help.
  14. Thank you for responding in exactly the way I was referring to. My verbiage is just semantics... low leverage, mid leverage. I say positive stats, you come back with one negative... I am defending Pagan only to the degree that his performance does not warrant the utter vitriol and negativity that follows the mention of his name. It does not matter what positives are brought up, what role he fills... haters gonna hate.
  15. IMO, the issue with Pagan really comes down to the fact that people that want to hate on Pagan will hate on Pagan, regardless of the information put in front of them. You can find fault with any pitcher on the roster, but Pagan invites vitriol like nobody else. You could provide 10 positive stats, and the haters will say "Yeah, but...". It really doesn't matter. Like it or not Pagan is filling his mid-leverage roll pretty will this year
  16. Let's see... Thielbar has thrown a whole 10.1 innings this year Lewis has 99 AB in 26 games Polanco has 127 AB in 30 games I understand where you are coming from, but this is not the hill to die on. These guys have not had the impact you say. Their potential impact could be huge.
  17. So glad you brought this up Nick. There have been a dozen articles scrutinizing every aspect of what the Twins should do at the deadline. Without making a move, they are expecting to pickup two bats and a reliever in the very near future. The prospects of these three individuals (and Stewart as well) will have a huge impact on how the Twins view the deadline...
  18. Boras is a master at this game. For straight up top dollar, no one is better.
  19. I may be in the minority here, but I do not see a bullpen move being a top priority. Sure, they will make a move for Robertson or another quality arm if they can get one on the cheap, but I think they have bigger issues: 1) They need to make a decision on Buxton. Everybody can see he is not healthy and is generally hurting the team. Are they willing to pull the plug on him to get him healthy? 2) Another higher contact bat would be a strong addition. You could argue the only positions that are "locked" are catcher and shortstop. Everyone else provides enough positional flexibility that the aren't blocking a move. 3) Do not overlook Dallas Keuchel. Him deciding not to opt out could play a huge role here.
  20. Let's get this out of the way early: TRADE GALLO, KEPLER, AND PAGAN FOR ANYTHING!!! Sorry, had to appease the masses...
  21. Nothing puts a smile on my face more than Lance Lynn stinking against the Twins (though Kendrys Morales might give him a run for the money).
  22. A little off track, but I don't read too much into any perceived lack of pitching depth in the minors. The big team gutted the depth by calling everybody up in the last 18 months: Ryan Ober Duran Moran Jax Balazovic That isn't necessarily a bad thing today. Three years of rebuilding that depth sounds about right.
  23. Never mind the fact this was over 20 years ago with a different regime, I would consider a rental to no longer be a twin after the season. Stewart re-signed with the Twins after that season. I do not see Bellinger re-signing with the Twins under any circumstances. The spark comment has merit, but I do not see Bellinger being that option. Still a hard pass for the Twins.
  24. I am still waiting for the " Gallo, Kepler and Pagan" package to be offered... One fell swoop we would shut down 75% of the TD posts.
