All things being equal, Gallo brings a different skill set than Gordon. A Gordon-for-Gallo swap makes less sense than some of the other moves mentioned in the article.

Can Byron Buxton Actually Get Healthy?
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Conjecture and Opinion. I was expecting to get a little more insight on his injury instead of a rehash of everything we already know, which is nothing. Thanks Skip. -
The End of the Joey Gallo Saga?
Fire Dan Gladden replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
You had me until the QO statement... zero chance of that happening. Now that the attacks on Pagan are holding little merit, the angst has been redirected to Gallo. Not great, but not as horrendous as most believe. He is at the back-end of the roster, but ahead of Luplow and maybe a reliever or two. I would be surprised to see Gallo let go at any point the rest of the way. That includes playoffs. Gallo provides a lot of flexibility, with power off the bench and as a defensive replacement all over. -
What Does a Lost Year Mean for José Miranda?
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Miranda still has a path to the Twins, but it is a lot more crowded now. LF is still a revolving door. Kiriloff could easily slide into that spot if they feel 1B is an option. However, I can see the Twins working on Julien there during the offseason, with Solano a strong candidate to return next year. An off-season move to fill that role is also a possibility. Miranda's best bet right now is to hit well, show the world he is healthy, and force the Twins to either promote him or trade him. They do not "have" to move him this winter... -
This is an interesting metric. For the year: Floro - given up runs in 13 of his 53 outings Duran - 17 times in 50 outings Jax - 15 times in 59 outings Pagan - 14 times in 56 outings Obviously this is a cursory stat. Leverage situations matter. Not to mention that Duran typically gives up runs 1 at a time. Floro gives them up typically in bunches. But perception is also part of this discussion...

Would you trade 1 WS win for a decade of losing seasons?
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Trov's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I wrote an article similar to this question a while back: What is more important, the ride or the results.... Personally I would rather see a competitive team year-in and year-out... -
The Greatest Twins Rookie Class in History
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Some context for this article would have been nice. How can you have an article discussing this group maybe being the best ever without doing any actual research and comparison?- 21 replies

Projecting the Twins’ Playoff Rotation
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
All depends on how the days off work: Lopez, Gray, Maeda might be enough. If not, Whichever of the Ober/Ryan/Keuchel they think is pitching the best and will give them the best chance to win. The other two should theoretically end up in the pen bumping Sand and Floro.- 26 replies

Could Ohtani UCL open the door for the Twins?
Fire Dan Gladden commented on Doc Munson's blog entry in Fantasy GM
Whomever signs Ohtani, the on-field production is only a part of the package. The player salary is a small part of the consideration. We all know Ohtani is a unicorn that transcends the game. International visibility, merchandise sales, games on national television... Working on the assumption that Ohtani is willing to come to Minnesota, I think you pay whatever it takes to get him here. Minnesota is working on a new TV rights contract this Fall. Imagine having Ohtani in the fold during discussions. The Twins have a strong young core that should be playoff competitive for the foreseeable future, another great selling point. It isn't my money. I don't know all of the economics involved. But the numbers have to come close to working out. Do I think the Pohlad's would have the guts to pull the trigger here? No chance. But they should. 10 years with a player option at 4yrs and again at 6 yrs. -
I was able to attend this game in person. Everything else aside, from a fan's standpoint this was an incredibly enjoyable game to watch. Intensity every half inning, back and forth battles, mistakes and successes from both teams. And a Twins walk-off to top it off... Games like this remind me of why I enjoy baseball...

Is King Kenta a 2024 Contributor?
Fire Dan Gladden replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This is the actual crux of the argument against pushing up the pitching prospects. If the Twins go out this offseason and re-sign two of Gray, Maeda, and Keuchel, the rotation is theoretically set. (Yes, like it or not, do not write off Keuchel just yet) Personally, I can really only see Maeda back, but the way contracts have gone in MN over the last few years, nothing would surprise. I think if Varland looks ready, but not able to crack the 2024 rotation, he would be moved. Quality SP are always in short supply, BP guys can be found on the cheap every off-season.- 39 replies

If the Twins thought Varland was better than we we currently had, he would be up on the big team. He has not been blowing people away this year at any level.- 39 replies

Investing money or prospects into the BP, either in the offseason or the trade deadline, is a HUGE risk. Reliever volatility is extremely bad. The number BP guys that can and should truly command a haul in a trade or signing is extremely low. People forget that this rotation is near the top in IP because they have been so strong. When they get into the playoffs, they will only need 3 starters and 3-4 relievers due to all the off days. Is anybody going to complain if Maeda and Ober see middle innings during the playoffs? Keuchel is still in this discussion as well. It would have been nice to see a few additions to this team at the deadline, but I am not going to presume to know why they made the decisions they made: Pohlad's dictating no salary increase? FO feeling cost for moves was considered too high? Other teams not wanting to work with Minnesota? Players not wanting to come here? When you truly know who to get mad at for the deadline decisions, let me know.

Fire Dan Gladden replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins will not be able to replace Gray's numbers next year, he is basically a top 4 SP right now. I have always thought Maeda would be a great extension candidate. One year with and option or two would be ideal, but it might take a 2 year deal to keep him. No contract incentives so the Twins would be able to move him to wherever he is needed without any hurt feelings.- 39 replies

Again Stu, you blur the line between satire and reality... For everybody that has been calling for the FO to be fired, please pause for a second and take a look at this situation in Chicago (you can add the Angels as well). Money is not an issue for the White Sox and they are a complete disaster. Understand that it could be a lot worse.

Don't compare Keuchel to Ober, Ryan, Jax, or Duran. He needs to be looked at compared to Winder or Sand. When you add in his experience, if Keuchel pitches just ok the rest of the way, he most assuredly will take a roster spot from one of those guys.

Speaking to the back end of the bullpen, those numbers will probably be skewed in the playoffs. The Twins will probably go Grey, Lopez, and one of Ryan/Ober. This means Maeda, Ryan/Ober, and Keuchel will be in the pen (unless they decide to leave Keuchel off the post season roster for a position player, which is possible). Considering that Sands and Winder will never pitch in the playoffs, this issue should not be as big of a concern.

OMG... I just read that article. Not a big Souhan fan, but boy did he hit that one on the head. Seth posted about it a week ago, I am not surprised it did not hit any traction on this website. Too close to home for some methinks...

I thought I had read somewhere that the Twins SP are in the top 2 or 3 in IP this year. Also, this year Ober has also blown past the most innings he has thrown in any professional season. Maybe a little insight into the decisions being made last night...

Greatest Twins Individual Offensive Season Ever?
Fire Dan Gladden commented on arby58's blog entry in Arby58
While the low number of PA plays into this discussion, Jim Thome's 2010 season was statistically worth a note here: PA 340 OPS 1.039 OPS+ 182 Pretty amazing age 39 season. -
I am not going to get too excited about any of these guys until after they return from ACL and/or Tommy John surgery. We all know it is going to happen to them at some point... Welcome to Minnesota Professional Sports Fandom...
