  1. I'm going with no on a designated closer. Fireman. Yeah, but we need 1 more and Lopez to return to pre trade form. So far, the high end closer/firemen pitcher are getting PAID..Twins have yet to do that.. so, another reason to say no on anyone on the team having that title... Teams are spending on that type of pitcher so far...
  2. No Rule 5 in the couple seasons probably has something to do with it
  3. I hope the Correa situation is cleared up early on. Him onboard completely changes pretty much everything. Him not means there is a lot the FO could do. Boras Corp. usually holds out till late January early Feb to have his premium free agents sign. I'd hate to see the Twins wait that long...I'd call that the worst-case scenario. Just guessing with Correa onboard a trade or two and some low-end signings for the BP and backup catcher. Not much change to the 40 man. With a lot of talk about health...I really hope that isn't how it goes. To pick apart the red highlighted guys on the roster.. My opinion is DFA Contreas, Garlic and Stashak. To cheat and use previous players Megill is similar to Pressly when they got him from the Red Sox. Enlow has four quality pitches and is only just building up to starter innings. Garlic is an AAAA player. The splits are brutal. Stashak hasn't been healthy enough to get a roster spot. A playoff team that is dangerous and can win any series has a good player a SS. The Phillies just made it to the series with 5-6 DH's. But lost to the team that was better built and has a quality SS.
  4. I like it except a couple things. Taillon @17.5 is steep of a #3. Why not go with Eovaldi for something similar 2x20 or 3x18? He's a #2 when healthy and a #3 when not. Martin and Julien both making the roster may be asking a bit much of guys who haven't played AAA ball yet. I like Sanchez but think he might be too expensive for what the Twins want. Old friend Castro, Narvaez or a Barnhard type probably work better. If it fits in the budget Wil Myers as RF/1B would help with lefties and platoon with Arreaz at 1st well.
  5. The Escobar trade would look as bad, possibly worse, then this one does after the 2021 season.. After Duran's 2022 season it looks a bit different. This FO would never have resigned him to a fair value contract. So we have Alcala and Celestino on our team now for someone who wouldn't be. I'm happy that Pressly got a ring but not unhappy about the trade.
  6. I'd really like to see the FO splurge on the BP. They've got a lot of young arms that they'll have cheap for many seasons to come. A couple of 2-3 years contracts in the 3-7 mil per year range shouldn't be out of the question. There are plenty of quality BP arms that should fall into that range. Michael Fulmer, Robert Suarez, Carlos Estévez and Pierce Johnson should be in that group. Plus another veteran or two in the pen should help the young guys at their craft.
  7. I get stealing strikes wins games. Right or wrong it seems like huge advantage to have a catcher that actually hits his weight. A two out run scoring single should be more valuable then one or two balls called a strikes in a game.
  8. Chris Williams season number are good but most on that is from AA. His Saints slash line is .192/.290/.424 .714 so pretty mediocre. I'm in this boat. Jeffers has a decent chance to be a good catcher. I hope they keep him around for awhile yet. I'm not sold on him being a #1 catcher though. Narvaez had an OPS+ 71 in 2022 and OPS+ 101 in 2021. I get the lefty/righty platoon. But there should be a better option then that. Boras Corp usually drags things out till Feb so it's likely the better FA catchers will be locked up before the Twins have an answer on Correa.
  9. The price would be high..Very high... If it wasn't the A's would have already traded him. I'd guess depending on what happens at SS would determine what will happen. I'd prefer Contreras over parting with the prospects. 4 years @ 15-20 mil the farm should produce a replacement for 1 or both catchers by then.
  10. I'm not convinced Jeffers is a #1 catcher so yes plz. Also I don't miss Garver or Rorveldt. Garver is injured more then Buxton and Rorveldt makes Sanchez look like an offensive star. The farm is slim pickings on anyone who could help anytime soon. Contreras would be a huge upgrade but I think a trade is the way they go. Someone like the Padres Nola or Mejia from the Rays.
  11. I'll go with 2.5%..Halfway between Squirrel and Beauchamp..I expect a "we tried" but hope for last off-seasons surprise.
  12. Yes this needs to end. With that in mind. I've seen a lot of complaining (in the past) about Mahle and Paddock with their injuries. If not for those trades there is a good change we'd have a Shoemaker type in the 5th starter spot in 2023. Paddock probably won't be starting games till 2024. So in 2023 you want Mahle or a Shoemaker type? In 2024 Paddock or a J.A. Happ type? The FO gambled on Mahle and Paddocks health and lost in 2022. But if those trades keep a reclamation project off the roster in 2023-2024 that's likely a win all by itself. Just me 2 cents worth.
  13. Anyone that may play SS for the Twins in the near future should be a target to trade for not trade away.
  14. Not that I completely disagree but Garver and Rorveldt played less games then Jeffers last season
  15. I'm not convinced Jeffers is a 1A so I'd prefer Contreras. But I think that's very unlikely. So give me someone who can catch 100 games. Gary Sanchez or Christian Vazquez would be good with me.
  16. Keep the prosects and spend some $. Nick Martinez if he opts out. He's a starter/long reliever and he was quite a bit better then Clevinger and Manea.
  17. Well, if you're going to dream...dream big!
  18. What I'm curious about is...Was Scott Boras wearing a Dodgers jersey or baseball cap when he was leaking that to Heyman?
  19. The Lance Lynn approach to pitching. I agree. Throw it till they hit it then add in your slider/curveball/change up.
  20. It's a completely different era of baseball. BUT Joe Ryans age 26 stats are similar to Brad Radke's in a few ways. Innings are not even close but that's due to the 2 times through the order metrics. Quite a few of the others are similar. FIP, WHIP, BB/9 H/9. Maybe we're lucky enough to see another Brad Radke. Off speed pitches will likely improve over time. Berrios got shelled his rookie season. He was vastly improved over the next few seasons. Ryan has been better so far. Not every stud pitcher throws 99mph.
  21. I don't think I would trade Polanco. If I had to trade one of the Twins 2nd basemen Arreaz would make more sense to me. He may be at his peak trade value. They both have their injury concerns. Plus I think Polanco is a far better player in the field.
  22. If the FO doesn't sign any back of the rotation starters this offseason I for one will be happy about the pitching pipeline. It's been quite a few seasons since that wasn't a mandatory thing. Hopefully in 2-3 seasons we're talking about extending some theses players while it's still do able.
  23. The FO has yet to sign a SP to an expected contract so unless it's a bargain or a 1 and done I don't expect them to sign any of them. Kodai Senga #4 would be my choice and has a chance to be above the Gray line.
  24. I agree, I had to go with hoping for better health and production from the OF. I did look at trading Kepler but my lack of faith in Kirilloff, Larnach and Wallner made me hold onto him. Kepler, Gordon and Martin should be able to cover center when Buxton gets hurt.
