  1. The DFA'd him this week? I missed that. Yikes, bad timing, seeing as how they just lost their closer Bautista to TJ surgery this week too. And the last box score I saw, Lopez had pitched 1.2 scoreless and hitless innings. Baseball is a weird game, and often heartbreaking.
  2. If you asked me a month ago, I would have said that I was VERY worried about the bullpen, but looking at October in the face, my stress level is a lot less. I like the idea of using starters like Maeda and Varland in the bullpen, plus a healthy Stewart will be a big help too. Still not sold on depending on Paddack after his last-minute rehab, but if the brass feels like he's ready and reliable, put him in the fire too! Feeling a lot more confident this week.
  3. I'm still wondering how "probable" it is that Paddack will be in the bullpen for the playoffs? Great story to have him coming back and pitching again ... but it's only been one game and a handful of innings thus far. Not sure if I feel comfortable having him on the playoff roster or not.
  4. oops, thanks for catching that one. At least I didn't call him Bob Gibson!
  5. Adding Alcala is an interesting idea. It's cool to see Paddack making a comeback late in the season too, but I think Alcala out of the bullpen might be a good option. But as others have said, a lefty like Funderburk might make more sense. In any event, it's encouraging that we have a bunch of healthy arms all of a sudden and we can actually make some relatively good choices.
  6. Yeah, it's a shame he didn't stay in the game and get a chance to pass Gausman, but I'd rather Lopez be rested and ready for his playoff start. A few extra strikeouts won't matter right now. But we absolutely need him in top form for the next game.
  7. Good question. I'm pretty high on Nowlin too, but as you noted, he still needs some work on his control. No idea how they choose players for the AFL teams, but it's always an interesting and useful short league for a lot of these guys,
  8. Kirk Gibson won his 15th game for Baltimore yesterday, but his ERA is still a bit high at 4.86. Compare that with Sonny Gray, who has pitched much better, but won't even get 10 wins this year. Run support matters.
  9. I love the idea of keeping Maeda as a starter, but I'm also not opposed to having him in the bullpen if that's the decision. Most of all, I think he's a team player with not much an ego, and he will do what it takes to help us win.
  10. Great prospect who has played at or above expectations thus far, but I would not want him to be a last-minute addition to the playoff roster. I'd rather roll with the vets like Farmer and Solano, or (get ready to shudder) even Gallo when it comes to the playoffs.
  11. I've been down on Ryan recently, but that was a very good game for him. I was leaning towards Maeda as the third starter in the playoffs, and that still may be my preference, but Ryan looked sharp in this game. Very encouraging.
  12. As far as who is on the playoff roster, it still seems like we have too many question marks with this plethora of rehabbing players, and the possibility of other players ending up on the IL. What does the medical staff say?
  13. What is the status of Stevenson for the post-season? I was under the impression that he was called up after August 1 and would NOT be eligible for the playoffs? Or am I mistaken!
  14. Man, having healthy and effective arms in Brock Stewart and Alcala sure would be nice additions to the bullpen come playoff time.
  15. Over in Gotham City, Ben Rortvedt started at catcher for the Yankees, but went hitless, dropping his BA to a paltry .109. But the Yankees, with Cole pitching, got the win. The Blue Jays and ex-Twin Jose Berrios got the loss.
  16. Old pal Josh Donaldson homered for the Brewers yesterday, but not even in the lineup today.
  17. There were a bunch of good looking pitchers in that draft: Greene, of course, and Gore, and the 2-way player McKay (who keeps getting injured, but may yet be a factor with the Rays, and Kyle Wright (he won 20 games last year, but was injured and not pitching well this year), In retrospect, we may have done the right thing by choosing Royce Lewis, even with his injury history. If he stays health, he is going to be an All-Star type player, as could Greene and some of the others, but I no longer regret that pick.
  18. If Joe Ryan is still waiting for Jerry Garcia to appear, perhaps he needs to be added to the IL also!
  19. Yeah, we would have ended up giving up a LOT more for Hunter Greene, and I doubt that was ever even an option.
  20. Seems like the Twins really struck gold on all of those cheap off-season trades/pickups: Castro, Taylor, Farmer, and Solano have all been VERY valuable. Even the injured relief pitchers like Stewart and DeLeon were good additions.
  21. I'd much prefer Maeda over Ryan in the starting rotation, especially based on their recent performances.
  22. Rough outing for Dereck with the Braves yesterday; 2 IP and he gave up 8 runs (2 home runs, but at least NOT the Jazz Chisholm grand slam) and walking 3 batters. Ouch!
  23. I was wondering why he wasn't in the Padres lineup the past few days. Tough break ... and no pun intended.
  24. Yeah, the relative lack of plate appearances will no doubt doom his chances, but he definitely deserves some consideration, and a bunch of votes. Maybe another couple of grand slams will sway the voters!
  25. Yes, Yes, and Yes. Barring a total meltdown, we should win this weak division, and I don't think we can realistically except any byes, so I think the idea of resting guys like Correa and Jax, and even Julien and Kepler, makes a lot of sense. We need players to be as healthy and focused as possible next month.
