  1. As beatable as the Rays look now, minus guys like Franco and McClanahan, I wouldn't count them out. They seem to consistently find ways to keep winning. But your overview was a good one and there certainly is some hope we can beat them in a playoff series. At least this year we won't have the dark cloud of the Yankees curse hanging overhead.
  2. The only positive takeaway I see from this game is that Joe Ryan came back from his IL stint and gave us a reasonably good start, keeping us in the game at that point. But oh, that bullpen ...
  3. Sadly, that is very true. Even if we win the division this year, we can't dismiss teams like Cleveland and Detroit --- or yes, even the White Sox --- from being much better next year.
  4. I gotta be honest: I had no idea who Gavin Williams was/is. If you had told he that he was a hot new Hollywood actor, I'd have been gullible enough to believe you.
  5. Yes indeed, after the recent sell-off of players, it's looking like rebuild time again in Chicago.
  6. It's almost like we have forgotten Royce Lewis, or assuming he's injured again and/or on another rehab assignment ... but man, it's great to see him healthy and playing, and playing well! Keep it up!
  7. The lack of depth in our bullpen was an issue, and continues to be an issue, and that was never adequately addressed. We were lucky to find some cheap pickups in guys like Brock Stewart in Jose DeLeon, who delivered better than expected, only to lose them to injuries, And of course Alcala never came back as expected and was injured again too. I still think we should try one of those AAA arms like Funderburk, if only to see how they fare at a higher level.
  8. I for one think we should seriously consider putting Keuchel on the post-season roster, unless of course he implodes during September. But with his playoff experience, not to mention his many years of pitching, I think he can help in several ways. He should be an asset.
  9. Yes, Miller is looking very good lately, but as far as bandwagon's go, I'll also join you on the Jaylen Nowlin one. He's pitched very well at AA thus far. Hoping he keeps those walks down and continues to develop confidence ... and a few more strikeouts!
  10. Those 3 scoreless innings by Winder, after the rocky start by Lopez (hope it was just a bad day at the office and no other concerns) was huge! And those homers by Royce Lewis and Michael Taylor, and that ultimate one by Jeffers! Wow! One of those rare feel good moments of late. Let's hope we can string together another win like that.
  11. What does an injury like that mean for his status as a pitcher next year? Obviously, not good timing for him going into free agency, but at least he can still hit.
  12. Interesting article. I enjoy reading about the background and pitching strategies of players like Keuchel. Hopefully, his experience and "veteran savvy" will help us get into, and get through, the playoffs this year. I think he will end up being a useful addition to the team.
  13. Yeah, I'm more than a bit worried how he will fare with that strong Rangers lineup.
  14. Good story. Thanks for posting that one!
  15. As much as we all would have liked an extra arm or two in the bullpen, there really wasn't that much out there at the trading deadline that looked particularly enticing, or affordable. I think keeping our prospects was the right move. As others have noted, the time to make an addition was in the off-season. By the time July came around that opportunity wasn't so realistic.
  16. Thanks for the encouraging report on Jose Salas. As you noted, he's young for the league, and still gaining some much needed experience and confidence. A strong finish for him this season would certainly be nice!
  17. I've asked that question before also, but haven't noticed any response. Seems like DH would be the last spot they would want to play a young prospect like that.
  18. Gotta agree about the evaluation of talent. It seems like this happens every year, and not just once or twice. The pitchers you mentioned have obviously thrived elsewhere, as has Tonkin in Atlanta, and both Law and Gibaut with the Reds. And then in the first game of this Brewers series, our old buddy Trevor Megill had a key strikeout in the 9th inning. In the past few years, Tampa Bay has also picked up some of our discards and utilized them effectively. Okay, some of these guys seemed like borderline roster additions at the time, but the fact is that they are playing quite well outside of the Twins system. If I were the Twins front office, or coaching staff, I'd be asking myself why this is happening so often.
  19. Obviously, they have to juggle the 40-man roster to bring up guys like Funderburk, but yeah, I think he deserves a shot at this point. The other fringe pitchers we are using in the bullpen don't inspire much confidence.
  20. Sorry, I know that was a spelling error (I certainly do that enough), but I couldn't resist ... Buxton's lack of contact is one of his main problems this year.
  21. Has Buxton ever played in LF? Not saying that's not an option, but is it realistic at this stage of the season?
  22. Austin Martin is looking very locked in lately! And looking very confident at the plate, at least based on the few select highlights I'm seeing.
  23. Hell, I'd even bring back MARK Funderburk at this point! Just kidding, of course., but this new Funderburk may be worth a look. Balazovic hasn't inspired much confidence, and I'm not sure about Winder either.
