  1. Well, you have the talent factor, and also the charisma factor, so sure he could be the next Kirby, or even the type of player that's even a whole level higher. I can only hope his injury history is a thing of the past and Royce Lewis will thrive in the years to come. As others have said, he's a very special player.
  2. Very good article. I'm hoping that Varland can thrive in the bullpen, but as jimbo noted, his repertoire of pitches is limited, so I'm not sure what his long term role will be. But I love the recent increase in velocity from him.
  3. Whatever deal they can make, the Twins definitely should bring him back. Great story of perseverance. Happy to have Thielbar in our bullpen.
  4. In my memory Dean Chance was always used as a starting pitcher for the Twins, so thanks for that data dive. I'm glad I wasn't hallucinating!
  5. Very happy to see Paddack pitching again, and throwing strikes! Man, he would be VERY handy to have for the final month of the season.
  6. Solano and Farmer have both been very useful additions to the team, as have other seemingly borderline pickups such as Taylor and Castro. They have all helped the team this year, especially in the wake of injuries to Buxton, Gordon, and Kiriloff. I'm happy to have all of those players on the team. If only we had added handy players like that to the bullpen. Actually, with pitchers like Stewart and De Leon, we did that, albeit in a roundabout way. But once again, the injury bug caught up to us, and we need more arms again.
  7. Very good point. At this point, I just don't see any room for Larnach on the Twins. But I also don't see that he has much, if any, trade value either. Mostly likely, he's cast aside and yeah, he could indeed become the next Rooker or Raley if given the chance.
  8. Good article, and good questions to consider. I agree totally about Lewis. Even as a "rookie" he already seems to have a veteran presence. I also think Kiriloff won't be fazed by the playoffs, but not so sure about some of the others. The main thing I'm worried about are the pitchers in the back end of the bullpen.
  9. Well, it was a close game, One thing that Rocco DID do well was use Stevenson for a pinch runner after Luplow walked. Stevenson, of course, stole second, but was unfortunately stranded at that point. Still ... that could have ended up being a BIG move/play had we been able to bring in the run.
  10. He seems to be clicking, rather than fading for the Braves down the stretch this year. I always liked his energy, but I'm surprised that he's still relatively productive at this point in his career.
  11. Thank you for another excellent Week in Review. The highlights for each team is very much appreciated. One name I had never noticed before was Yoyner Fajardo. A very impressive week for him! But I notice that he's already 24 years old. Is he still a prospect with potential or not?
  12. I was optimistic about Woods-Richardson last season, but not so much after his struggles this year. What is the consensus? Can he still make it as a MLB starter? Is the bullpen an option going forward?
  13. That's the key. Replace Floro, for sure, but we need someone better to replace him. Hopefully, one or more of those rehabbing arms will help a weary bullpen.
  14. I think, come playoff time, when a game is on the line, I will feel more confident with Correa at the plate as compared to some of our less experienced batters. Sure he has struggled this year, but I still think he will rise to the occasion.
  15. Meanwhile, Luke Keaschall is looking VERY good. Didn't know much about him before the draft, but he is looking like a great pick.
  16. Just getting one of Alcala, Stewart and Paddack back for the playoffs would be nice, and two would be great. But I still can't see Paddack making an appearance unless he suddenly shows he has no lingering rustiness from the TJ surgery.
  17. Remember Sawyer Gipson-Long? He was the minor league pitcher that the Twins traded to Detroit at the deadline last year for Michael Fulmer. Well, yesterday Gipson-Long made his MLB debut with the Tigers and got the win. He pitched 5 innings, gave up 4 hits and 2 runs, and struck out 5. Not a bad start.
  18. And over in Tampa, Zack Littell continues to be used as a starter, and this week he just pitched his longest game yet: 8 innings and only allowed 5 hits and 1 run. Man, where did that come from?
  19. Not sure if this is the best thread to post this comment, but here we go! I was just reading about the struggles of Carlos Rodon this year, and recalling how so many of us wanted us to snap him up as a free agent last year. Man, that just goes to show you how hit and miss this game of baseball can be. Lucky for us that we didn't take the "opportunity" of signing such a potentially game-changing pitcher.
  20. It's becoming increasingly realistic that Martin deserves a shot with the big league club, but the chances of that happening this year remain slim, although any injuries may necessitate a callup. But what happens next year? Martin looks like his best fit is in the outfield, but among the outfielders this year, who does he replace? We've got guys like Larnach and Nick Gordon, maybe Taylor again as a backup, maybe Kepler again too, and don't forget Wallner. or even Castro ... and maybe an overdue Buxton return. Seems like too many cooks in the kitchen. What do you all see happening next season?
  21. Looking at the photo, he appears to have once been a member of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, circa 1975.
  22. I was happy with Gallo too ... up to a point. But at this point the minuses outweigh his pluses. Right now, if we have a healthy Kiriloff coming back, and someone else who can play first base without looking ridiculous, I'm okay with saying thank you and goodbye to Joey.
  23. Good point on taking the extra bases or not. That can be huge. I knew that Correa was being more conservative on the base paths this year, but I'm really surprised at how poor Kepler has been. I don't think he can plead the same injury issues, so what's his handicap?
  24. I sure the hope the extra rest will help the unleash the beast in Duran. We will need him in top form if we make the post-season.
