  1. Ah yes, the "October Correa." Good to have him on our side this time around. Man, he has really stepped up for these playoffs. And Lopez; what a performance! I'm not getting TOO cocky or confident as we head back to Minneapolis, but adding that win today was huge!
  2. Sweepers were the most trendy pitch across baseball in 2023 Seems like that was the case; I keep reading lots of references to sweepers this year. That said, I have to ask: how long has this so-called "sweeper" pitch been around? I think the first time I ever even heard of it was last year. Who was the first pitcher to popularize this pitch? I'm honestly stumped and want to learn more about it, so any background will be appreciated.
  3. Unnoticed indeed. With playoff fever spreading rapidly I had forgotten all about the AFL. Thanks for the reminder!
  4. I'd prefer Ober over Ryan for the game in Houston too. Ryan's propensity to give up home runs in parks like that might be a factor, plus Ober has looked so good recently. I'd push Ryan back to game 4 at home.
  5. And keeping that quality in the farm system was/is important. That's one reason I wasn't so gung-ho for the teams to trade for anyone at the trade deadline. After we got hosed in the Orioles and Reds trades last year, I really wanted to hold on to the prospects we have in the minors. Glad we stayed patient this year in that regard.
  6. Totally agree. Our pitching and some incredible defensive plays sealed those wins over Toronto, but other than those homers by Lewis, and some key hits by Correa, our bats weren't causing any havoc. I hope that changes with the Astros series and we score a LOT more runs!
  7. ... it was a watershed moment for the organization and a turning point in fans' hearts. Yes, yes, yes. All that and more. The first game win was SO gratifying, and add the second win that advanced us and suddenly the Twins are a force to be reckoned with once again. Honestly, this is a HUGE psychological boost for the fans and the team. Confidence and talent and perseverance suddenly converge. I'm feeling a bit giddy right now, but I'm suddenly, and honestly, thinking that this team has a chance to go all the way.
  8. Yeah, any of those players would have been deserving of such an award. I'm just thankful that the Twins stuck with some of these players and/or grabbed them off the scrap heap. They all exceeded expectations this year.
  9. I was hoping for grilled squid tacos.
  10. ... Ryan LaMarres his way out of usefulness How many times can I love that phrase!? Brilliant!
  11. Great idea for an article! Ah, 2004 seems like such a long time ago, and I guess it was. But I also remember those 1987 and 1991 World Series wins, so 2004 almost seems like "just" a few years ago to me. But where was I? I had just moved back to Thailand, after spending 2 years in Cambodia (talk about being "out of the loop", that was the case in those years for me), but I was still following the Twins online as much as possible. So sweet to see them back to their winning ways again!
  12. I'm still worried about Ryan starting one of the playoff games. I'd feel more optimistic if we threw Ober in there to start at least one time.
  13. Good point. Obviously, those homers by Lewis were huge in game 1, but those couple of defensive gems by Correa really sealed the wins. Pivotal plays.
  14. I'm getting the same vibe too. This is indeed a very special team. That said, we need to start scoring more runs. All this great pitching and stellar defense helps a lot, but I'd feel more comfortable with more runs scored too.
  15. Was that Nick Gordon I saw in the dugout? If nothing else, he'll make for a great cheerleader during the playoffs!
  16. Let's just hope that there is no need for a game three!
  17. I woke up this morning (in Thailand, in a different time zone), turned on my PC and checked the news, just hoping ... and yes, a Twins victory in the playoffs. Reading the game roundup and the quotes, man, I honestly had tears in my eyes. What a wonderful feeling to see my team win again. But let's not stop! More wins await this club.
  18. This all seems like a very vague dream that I once had. The Twins winning a playoff game? I have no recollection of anything past the 1991 World Series victory.
  19. At the start of the season if someone had told me that Solano, Farmer and Castro would be our main bench players (or even starters) going into the playoffs I would have been very skeptical, and not very confident of our chances of advancing in the playoffs. But now, as we enter October, I'm very happy to have them all on the team and consider their presence a strength.
  20. That "somebody else" was Brent Rooker, who actually DID make the All-Star team this year, but that was mainly because he's now with Oakland, and who else were they going to pick? But yeah, I think looking at the trade now. things have worked well for the Twins. Then again, Rogers had a good bounce-back year for the Giants this year. The bottom line: the Padres didn't keep either of the two players we sent them (Rooker was cast off and went to the Royals for a while, before they cut him loose too), and we still have Pagan and Paddack.
  21. I've got a good friend in Seattle who is going to be devastated at the Mariners loss. But yeah, that would have been a world series with a wonderful watery theme!
  22. Who would have thought that we would ever be saying that about our Minnesota Twins, but yes, things are looking much more promising, especially if we can re-sign at least one of our free agent starters. Besides that, a very impressive outing from Paddack. Looks like he's more than ready to roll.
