  1. Good post, and good questions. It's still early in the season, but the overall decline in strikeouts is encouraging. Nevertheless, it appears (to my very un-scientific eye test) that the fewer strikeouts has also resulted in fewer home runs too. But as we have seen during our recent hot stretch, we are still able to win games without needing a bunch of home runs (and here I add another disclaimer: Santana's recent home run barrage has certainly helped win some games). To answer your question about the strikeout decline being sustainable; I honestly don't know. But as long as (most of) the batters are making contact and not whiffing, I'll be happy.
  2. I think Jon Rauch even snuck out there. Whoa ... this time machine is making me dizzy!
  3. I wanted the Twins to sign him too, but yeah, maybe passing on him at his age was the right thing to do. Nevertheless, I hope he comes back from the IL and pitches like he used to do.
  4. It looks like Jim Perry played 10 seasons (maybe not all of them full seasons) with the Twins from 1962 to 1972. He won at least 20 games twice for the Twins, but of course he is perhaps best known for being the brother of spit-balling legend Gaylord Perry.
  5. I was thinking, what about Tim Laudner? But I checked and he only played 9 years, just missing his decade.
  6. That gives him a total of 37 strikeouts this year without issuing a single walk. Man, I'm getting excited about Zebby!
  7. From what I read, Lewis is anxious to get back on the field ASAP. But that's no surprise; that's just the way he is, and frankly, the way most players are. They want to be on that field and helping their team. In any case, I hope it doesn't take a full 8 weeks.
  8. I know this thread is about Margot, but what HAS happened to Kirilloff? Yes, he started off the year on fire but lately has become a strikeout machine. Does he need a reset in AAA or what do the Twins do?
  9. Doncon may indeed end up being what saves the Twins in that trade.
  10. Yeah, if he keeps pitching games with that many strikeouts, and only walking one batter (or even none like he did last week), then I think he certainly could vault up the pecking order. I realize the Twins will try to limit his innings over the course of this season, but right now he's in a groove.
  11. Another informative post. Keep 'em coming, Seth, And thanks also for mentioning Mental Health Awareness Day and your own experiences. The awareness of this condition is huge, so I appreciate it being discussed. Meanwhile, an up and down day for Charlee Soto, but overall I'm still encouraged. He's still very young, but just seeing the few clips of him pitching, he LOOKS like a powerful and confident pitcher. Just have to work on limiting those walks for the rest of the season..
  12. He had a good run, If I recall correctly, we got him in the Liriano trade, and the expectations were fairly low at that point. But he stuck around and ended up being a darned good player for many years. If this is the end for him, so be it, but he can be proud of the good years.
  13. I'm delighted at how good Woods-Richardson has looked so far this year. Do you think he stays in the rotation at this point, or still too early to pronounce him a keeper?
  14. We are getting a LOT of these wins without hitting home runs. On one level, that's a refreshing change; hit the ball and advance runners and score runs. But at some point it may get a bit concerning if our homers start to vanish.
  15. I always thought, or at least hoped, that Deduno would stick with the Twins. He was coming off a very impressive performance in that World Baseball Classic (not even sure if that's the correct name) and it looked like he was a good fit for the rotation. I know he had control issues, but what an arm! Can't remember why his tenure was so short. Was it an injury or something?
  16. And poor Aaron Hicks was already released by the Angels. He had a great spring training, but couldn't hit his weight in April.
  17. Good article and analysis. That's one reason I like Twins Daily so much. Nevertheless, I'm a wee bit concerned about Pablo. At the start of the season it seemed like many people were hailing him as a Cy Young candidate. Well, not so fast. As others have noted, he's a very intelligent pitcher and aware of his strengths and weaknesses. I'm no analyst or pitching guru, so all I can do is hope he tinkers with his pitch mix the right way and starts missing more bats.
  18. I'd prefer the current posting method
  19. That prompts this question: which outfielders in our minor league system have the best arms and/or fielding tools?
  20. Obviously a very good performance by Cesar Lares. As Seth noted, games like this one will suddenly make more people aware of you. Let's hope this kid continues to pitch well.
  21. Not at all. Many thanks to both you and terrydactyls for the information.
  22. Great idea for a post! Those two have been particularly awful so far. If they don't pick it up, I'd expect Washington will release them or put them on waivers in another month or so. That team is not going anywhere, so they might as will bring up some younger prospects. But yeah, Rortvedt has looked very good for Tampa, plus Littell is doing well as a starting pitcher for the Rays too. Over in Miami, Nick Gordon is struggling but Arreaz is slowing getting his batting average back up.
  23. Eventually, Royce Lewis will return to the roster, but that remains far off on the horizon. Speaking of which, what is the timeline for a Lewis return? I hope "far off" is not that far away.
  24. That's pretty much my take too. He was called up for the first time and wasn't overwhelmed and didn't look out of place. Sure, the numbers weren't great, but still better than half of the rest of the team at this point last week. I'm encouraged.
