Matt Wallner Is Finally Finding Himself at Triple-A
Doctor Wu replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would agree that we have --- or will have in the next year or so --- a lot of blocked players, both infielders and outfielders, but I don't think that trading any of those guys (and someone like Jenkins is totally untouchable) would really get us anything close to an impact pitcher. Brooks Lee, maybe, but I don't see the Twins putting him on the market either. As things stand this year, there are too many question marks about guys like Kiriloff, and even Martin and Wallner. Other teams might certainly want to take a chance on some our surplus players, but I can't see the Twins getting an overwhelming return in a trade. -
Bad week for baseball in Florida with all the rain and flooding, but at least some of the other affiliates were spared. Great game for Dobnak in St. Paul! And Zebby looked pretty good, once again giving up zero walks, although the homer hurt a bit. Nevertheless, seeing guys like Wallner and Maitan in a groove is encouraging.

Former Twins, Where are they now? 2024 edition
Doctor Wu replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
It's only a minor league deal, but could be a savvy move by the Cubs. Lopez wasn't totally awful with the Mets. Hopefully, a change of scenery will help him. Then again, I thought the same thing when we traded him to the Marlins last year, and that never happened. -
That will definitely be a key aspect. If we can keep up this level of play against teams like Cleveland and (dare I say it ...) the Yankees, then we can truly become excited about this team.

Seems like Buxton has cut down on his strikeouts in recent games too. Getting hits and walks is a definite change for the better!

Very good article and analysis. I had been wondering why Woods-Richardson has been so much more effective this season with the Twins. Reading about the adjustments he made in this article does a lot to explain his success. Let's all hope this this is a sustained success and he can become a vital cog in the rotation.

4 Triple-A Hitters Ready to Upgrade the Twins' Offense
Doctor Wu replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
It would seem that Brooks Lee is about ready for a callup, but ... which position does he play on this team? Or do we bring him up and only use him as a DH and/or utility guy?- 37 replies

Fun indeed, Whether on the field or at bat, Correa is suddenly looking like the superstar we paid the money for. And that Prince tribute thing was a LOT of fun too! For the next series, we need to get him a Raspberry Beret to wear!

I would have guessed that Henriquez was due back out, but then again, I'm not inside the mind's of the front office gurus.

Honestly, that COULD be a problem for some of these guys. As you noted, it's helped other players in the past. Never hurts to check. Eyesight is, ugh, sort of important for these players.

I have fond memories of watching Willie Banks pitch for the Orlando Twins AA team. Later that season, a friend of mine and I flew to Memphis for "Elvis Weekend" (the anniversary of Elvis's death in mid-August) and by luck the O-Twins were playing the Memphis Chicks at Tim McCarver stadium in Memphis. Another stroke of luck, the Twins were staying at our hotel! I ran into Willie Banks and Lennie Webster in the lobby and we struck up a conversation. Very nice guy! Later at the game that night, he noticed me in the stands and waved a hello, which was also nice. Needless to say, I stayed a fan, even when he later played for those hated Yankees.

Another great, fact-filled report. Thanks, Seth. Hopefully, Cory Lewis is now completely healthy and can show us that he's still got the stuff that he showed last season.

That's perhaps the most mystifying part of these transactions: what was the rush? Okay, you send Varland back down after the one great start, but why the rush to swap Jackson for Castillo? As others have noted, Jackson was barely in AAA for a week before he supposedly got his mojo working again. Why not wait a bit longer and see if it's for real?

Agreed, They really HAD to make that move. If you had told me back in April, that Kiriloff, Julien AND Wallner would all be sent down to AAA I would not have believed you. Kiriloff and Julien especially seemed like solid hitters that wouldn't need such a demotion. Is it the fault of the hitting coaches, eyesight problems, or something else? I certainly don't know the answer, I can only hope ALL of these players can make the necessary adjustments and return to help the Twins ASAP.

I'm puzzled by that move too. Castillo had been relatively effective in his short time with the team. Why the rush to bring Jackson back? But I think the Kiriloff move may have been necessary. He is striking out too much and not getting the hits like he was having back in April. Hopefully, he gets back on track very very quickly. And yes, it will be interesting to see how Martin handles this new promotion.

Former Twins, Where are they now? 2024 edition
Doctor Wu replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Man, Niko is this year's traveling man! If things don't go well in Pittsburgh, he can always join Jake Cave and try for a Rocky Mountain high with Colorado! -
Who knows? As things stand now, they would be sellers, but if, and only if, the Angels get Trout back in the lineup, as well as Rendon and Drury, and maybe even a healthy Sano, they could end up surprising some people. Willie Calhoun has ended up being a good pickup, and Soriano and Sandoval have looked pretty good as starting pitchers. But ... will management be that patient? I agree that Rengifo might be the only one worth pursuing for the Twins.

At this point, Sano is more entertaining being on another team!

Twins Bring “Ripple Effect” With City Connect Uniforms
Doctor Wu replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I respect the idea to use elements of Minnesota and the thought that went into the concept ... but frankly I find the uniform and cap design fairly hideous. Urrgghhh!!!
