  1. Thanks for another fun look at Twins players from the past. I smile when I see these names, usually thinking: I had his baseball card when I was a kid. As the article says, I hope he is indeed still alive and well and living in North Carolina!
  2. Another very interesting interview. Thank you! Seeing his name, my first question is obviously: How do you pronounce Doktorczyk ?
  3. No to mention, scoring all those runs without hitting any home runs!
  4. It may not have been a factor in the game, but someone needs to permanently ban those horrible uniforms that the Twins were wearing yesterday.
  5. July 20, 1969: Pitcher Wins Two Games in One Day Jim Perry earned two wins on this date in 1969, first pitching two perfect innings of relief before pitching a complete-game shutout. In a game resumed from the night before, Perry pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the 17th. Then, in the top of the 18th, he hit a double and eventually scored the go-ahead run on a bases-loaded balk. He then pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the 18th to secure an 11-7 win in Seattle versus the short-lived Pilots. Perry then went back out there and pitched a complete-game shutout for a 4-0 Twins win in the day's regularly scheduled game. Great article ... and what an amazing stat for Jim Perry. Not only winning BOTH games of a double header, but hitting a double and scoring the go-ahead run. Man, I love this crazy game ... of course nowadays neither the pitching or batting feat would happen, so all we can do is appreciate the history. Thanks for this one!
  6. Baby steps indeed, but as you noted those steps ARE encouraging so far. If you can stay healthy from here on out that will be fun to see how he develops. On a less encouraging note, I was checking Tanner Schobel's numbers and nothing looks impressive from the batting side. For a second round draft pick, now in AA and 23 years old, I would have hoped for more at this point. He DID hit well in Cedar Rapids last year, but he has struggled at the AA level. I know it's too early to call him a lost cause, but what does his future look like in this organization?
  7. Sorry to hear out an even worse report about Raya's outing, but thanks for letting us know. Just when it seems they MIGHT allow him to stretch out and actually pitch past the fourth inning, he gets rocked. What do you see as his future? Will he keep starting, or be moved to the bullpen?
  8. I really enjoy these interviews with the new picks. Hopefully, we can read more about the players we drafted. DeBarge seems like yet another player with the right mindset and game plan for success in the organization. Happy to have him on board!
  9. Rough start for Marco Raya. Not sure if matching his highest pitch count was a good thing in this case or not. But at least Brock Stewart is healthy and pitching again. Stay strong!
  10. Yeah, he is definitely one of the most expendable players we have. But then again, if he gets hot down the stretch like he did last season, we may want to keep him around.
  11. I agree. We are talking about young players, some of them just 17 and 18 years old, and recently signed, so there is not much if any playing history to use for reference. But still, I also appreciate these updates and it certainly helps to give us a bit more data and perspective on the prospects in our organization, Keep this stuff coming!
  12. I don't even think Kepler would bring back much in a trade at this point, certainly not any sort of impact player that would help us down the stretch. On this list, the only one I could see being traded would be Miranda, mostly because he doesn't have a truly set position, which make him the most expendable of the bunch, plus he currently has a lot of value. But I definitely can't see us trading any of our pitchers.
  13. Very interesting and informative interview! Judging by what I read hear, I love Diaw's attitude and mindset. He sounds like a player that will do well in this organization.
  14. White Sox fans are still waiting for the Ozzie Guillen tribute night.
  15. What's the story behind the Twins trading "cash considerations" to the Mets for Rylan Bannon, who is listed as a third baseman? He was assigned to the Saints, but he does have some MLB experience. Is this more of an insurance move in case Miranda and Lewis are out longer than expected?
  16. It really is good news! I'm happy that the Twins didn't play it safe and keep him longer in AA. He definitely deserves the promotion to AAA. I hope he continues pitching well with that insane K/BB ratio.
  17. Gotta agree with that take, I was certainly hoping that he would pitch well when called up, but he has been much more consistent than I had thought. Alcala has also been a pleasant surprise, now that he seems to be healthy. I knew next to nothing about Staumont before we picked him up, but he has also done a very good job so far. Still hoping that guys like Stewart and Topa are able to contribute by the end of the month, but we can't pin too much hope on that happening.
  18. Yikes, I keep forgetting about this new early deadline.
  19. Good article. I agree that Cleveland may not be able to sustain their first half success, plus the Twins are capable of playing better, or at least being able to consistently win games against better opponents. Hopefully, some of our bruised and battered players will come back healthy and productive in the second half.
  20. I wouldn't go as far to say that he has no trade value, but I agree that whatever trade value that he has right now is very low due to his injury history. As others have said, it it will soon be difficult to find a spot for him to play, or even just act as DH, as soon as guys like Lewis and Miranda are back from the DL, and I doubt they will be sending down Brooks Lee anytime soon. So maybe Kiriloff does need to fine a new home in the near future, but I'd rather the Twins wait until he's healthy and hitting well again. At that point we might be able to get someone like Detmers or even a better player in a trade.
  21. I feel that way too. I used to always love the all-star game, but for some reason the excitement has faded big time. Even seeing a Twins player or two in the game isn't enough to whet my interest.
