  1. In the past couple of months he has looked better, but then a game or two comes along and he reverts to looking washed up. Honestly, I'm not sure how much we can reply on him at this point. I WANT to be a believer, but I don't feel that confident putting him out there for any length of time.
  2. Thanks for another thorough roundup. I was lukewarm to the Culpepper pick initially, but his play has been impressive thus far.
  3. He was in the Pirates system earlier this season and then traded to the Cubs. I think he's still on their AAA team.
  4. Back to the Buxton issue, and looking ahead ... will the Twins be in the market for another center fielder next season, just because of all the uncertainty and lack of durability?
  5. Very early days ... but also very encouraging. Thanks for the article.
  6. Over in Baltimore, Code Povich has made several starts this season, but roughed up enough to sport an ERA of nearly 6.00 going into this week. But then he went out and pitched 7.1 scoreless innings and struck out 10 batters two days ago. Methinks the Orioles are happy getting both him and Cano in that trade.
  7. Good point. I think if the Twins could assure fans that Correa and Buxton were in the lineup on a given day or series, ticket sales would no doubt increase as a result.
  8. If all these injury cases are in an actual Twins hospital, I just hope the food is good!
  9. I was curious about that too. Doesn't appear to be a tattoo.
  10. Well, there WAS that one clean inning. Maybe the bullpen is actually the best place to use him.
  11. Very good article, along with plenty of stats to support your argument. It would certainly be very satisfying if Zebby can develop and be as good a pitcher as Kirby. I won't bet against it happening.
  12. That's who I thought of too. The fact that he came back up from the minors and stayed, plus he's hitting around .300. A very pleasant surprise!
  13. Urrgghh ... an absolutely brutal game. Nothing positive on offer, and it looks like no hope of getting any reinforcements for the bullpen for the next month, other than the usual revolving cast of current Twins players going back and forth across the river.
  14. I think you are right about how they are going to handle Prielipp for the next year or so. I realize we are still dealing with a very small number of innings he's pitched this season, but it's still VERY encouraging to see him putting up such good numbers lately.
  15. Good article and it covers all the reasons why the front office won't fork out more money for relief pitchers, and most of it I agree with. I think paying big bucks to veteran relief pitchers is most always a fool's game. That said, we clearly needed some reinforcements in the bullpen before the trade deadline and getting another useful arm or two would not have been that expensive. Some might say that quality relief pitchers were in such big demand this season that prices were higher than expected, but that still doesn't excuse the fact that the Twins made only one very lame trade.
  16. Saw that Hajjar had pitched against Cedar Rapids (for the Indians' affiliate), and looking at his stats this year it seems as if he isn't making much progress. For a second round pick his future doesn't look so good at this point.
  17. He's had a very disappointing season. I liked his contributions to the Twins last season, but looks like this may be the end of the road for him.
  18. I didn't even realize that the Mets had picked up Rosario. He's sifting through teams quickly this season!
  19. It would be a gambit, but from my point of view, nothing should be off the table right now. I agree, Some sort of unconventional move might end up being the best thing they can do.
  20. Exactly. Keirsey is having a very good season in AAA and is worthy of a look, but right now it's a numbers game, and the 40-man roster issue, as noted, is also a big reason. Even with Buxton on the IL, Martin and Margot are handling things reasonably well. plus the other called up outfielders like Larnach and Wallner are producing very well. So, unless another injury happens, I doubt we'll see Keirsey called up anytime soon.
  21. I realize the Okert has had some rough outings in the past month, but he's also pitched reasonably well at other times. Are the Twins that down on him that they think Blewett, or maybe another arm in AAA, will be that much better? Hey, I hope they are making the right decision, but with so few arms available at this stage in the season I'd hesitate before DFA-ing a guy that may still be useful.
  22. The recent outings by Prielipp are short, but still very encouraging. I also liked your description of his performance as "almost effortless." It would be wonderful to see more of this before the season comes to an end.
