  1. Ah, c'mon what a lame excuse. Box scores are much more important! Ha, just kidding! House projects can indeed be VERY time consuming. Good luck with that!
  2. That would be good, or even one that goes back two years. Always interesting to see how player have developed ... or not in some cases.
  3. I missed the news about Prielipp returning. Finally! Seeing that he struck out six batters over two scoreless innings is good news indeed!
  4. The All-Star game is a great idea, or concept, but it usually ends up being a stage for players there WERE great at one time, that no longer are playing at an elite level, plus favorites that fans pick, and of course the obligatory "sole picks" from teams that aren't represented otherwise. But even with those warts, it can be a fun game, But sometimes these picks are totally infuriating.
  5. You are right; not an exciting draft. But also like you noted, if we are able to target those players with a real good work ethic and strong character, combined with the necessary patience and development, then maybe we will be smiling at the results a few years down the road. Always gotta hope!
  6. I always keep hoping that the Twins will target more pitchers in the early rounds, but I also understand the relative weakness of this year's draft. I found this roundup on ESPN interesting, and somewhat surprising in regards to the prep players: The overall lack of high-upside high-school talent available -- or, perhaps just as likely, teams' unwillingness to gamble on teenagers high in the draft. When Mississippi shortstop Konnor Griffin went ninth to the Pittsburgh Pirates, it marked the latest selection ever for the first high school player. Arizona lefty Cam Caminiti -- cousin of former MVP Ken Caminiti -- went to the Atlanta Braves at No. 24, also a record for the latest the first high school pitcher was taken.
  7. Anyone remember Dale Soderholm, a shortstop from Coral Park High School in Miami? The Twins made him the #21 overall pick in 1971. No, not at all. I do remember ERIC Soderholm playing for the Twins, also back in the 1970s. Any relation, I wonder?
  8. I hope that's the plan too, or at least a possible end result. Give us more arms!
  9. I like what I've read about DeBarge so far. Seems like a solid pick with lots of potential. Obviously, we will find out more about him and Culpepper in the coming years, but for some reason I like this pick a lot more than the Culpepper one.
  10. IF he can hit like Anderson does --- or rather, did (Miami just released him after his disappointing start to the season) ---that would indeed be nice.
  11. I think most of his knew of, or were aware of, Lee's hitting skills, but what's really impressed me so far, especially in the game yesterday when he played second base, are his fielding skills. He did indeed look confident and comfortable at that position. I haven't seem him play at other positions as much, so how does he look at third and shortstop?
  12. More padding, or more hair might do the trick.
  13. Good article, Definitely lots of hits and misses, and no real formula for "properly" developing prospects. But I do worry that we still can't seem to draft and develop starting pitchers. Sure, there are some exceptions over the years, plus some good looking prospects we have in the minors now, but looking at our current starting rotation, guys like Lopez, Ryan, Woods-Richardson, and Paddack were all drafted by other teams and only ended up with the Twins via trades. Hopefully, we change that equation if guys like Festa, Zebby, Lewis and Soto end up being the real thing.
  14. Yes, Lee looked VERY good at second base in that game. Plus, he actually stole a base after getting on base with a walk. Despite going hitless the past few games, he still looks like a keeper!
  15. That about sums it up. He's been steady all year. Not amazing, but good enough to stay in the rotation. I keep waiting for an implosion, but it hasn't happened yet. And I hope it won't!
  16. Very encouraging start from Charlie Soto. Nice to see him stretching out and facing more batters, or at least more throwing more pitches. Seeing as how this is his first season as a pro, will there be an innings limit for him this season? But not so good a night for Cory Lewis. Ugh!
  17. Nice to see a lot of balls being hit over the fence in Wichita! And an encouraging outing from Varland. Thanks for another good report!
  18. Just heard the news. Cool stuff. Congratulations to Castro on a well-deserved honor!
  19. Based on their performances so far this season, if we can harness the BEST of Lopez, Ryan, Ober, and Paddack, then we will be more than fine in the playoffs. But hoping for that and depending on that are two different things. It's tempting to think about trading for another quality arm to add to the rotation, but I'm not sure if it's either realistic or even necessary. At this point, I'm willing to go with what we have, and maybe even SWR or Festa can take it up a notch too.
  20. You asked the question: Which player will impact the Twins most in the second half? ... and I gotta think that has to be Royce Lewis. Having him back in the lineup will be huge. But yes, the bullpen is a concern too. As USAFchief said, depending on guys like Stewart to Topa to bounce back from injuries, when neither one has pitched much (or any) this year might be much too optimistic. Another strong arm would be welcome, but I'm not keen on trading any top prospects for someone to pitch only a few innings.
  21. You are right, there probably are not any real qualifying stats in that sense for the All-Star game. But I'm guessing his slight lack of at-bats may be the biggest reason that he wasn't considered.
  22. I agree. A most excellent summary, covering all the hits and misses ... and thankfully a lot more hits this week. Keep it coming!
  23. Miranda is definitely deserving of a spot based on his performance the past 2 months, but he may not have enough official at-bats to be considered.
  24. Hard to really say what happened with him, but it's definitely a shame. Such a promising prospect. But as you noted, maybe a good season in Korea will put him back on the MLB radar.
  25. Wow, that's a surprise ... or then again, maybe not so crazy. It's only a minor league deal, plus he had that one good year with the Braves, so it would be fun to see him come back up there again. Good luck to him!
