I like the idea of trying to improve the team by trades, but I think that in each one of those trade scenarios that you outline, the Twins are giving up too many quality prospects for players that really may not make much of a difference to our overall ability to win more games. Many people seem enchanted with Luzardo but he's never really shown much consistency. And outside of trying for him, not much else moves the needle for me. Yeah, I think our starting pitching needs some sort of help, seeing as how Lopez and Paddack haven't performed as expected this season, but I'd be VERY reluctant to trade away good prospects like Marco Raya and Zebby Matthews for someone like Rooker or Jo Adell.

I say that, but ... another healthy and effective arm in the bullpen WOULD be welcome. But I really don't want to part with any top tier prospects for a relief pitcher of any kind.

That would be a bit bizarre, but I would still say ... "go for it".

RHP Jay Jackson DFA’d by Minnesota Well, that wasn't a shock, but the fact that they released another pitcher to bring back Jackson last week (or was it the week before?) was the real puzzling move. This bullpen remains a work in progress. Sorry, this should probably go in the other forum, but I just noticed the transaction in this article, thus the comment.

Exactly. That should be a lesson in trading assets for a relief pitcher having a breakout year. I think the best strategy next month will be for the Twins to do not much at all. Injuries and performance issues with Stewart and Thielbar are a concern, but we should have enough capable backups in the minors.

As much as we want to see Lee in the Twins lineup soon, you are right, it WILL require some difficult decisions by the front office. Sure, removing Farmer from the roster is easy enough, but as others have pointed out, that doesn't give Lee the everyday playing time that he really needs. Short of some sort of wild trade, I suppose, as others have suggested, Lee ends up playing a combination of positions until another injury necessitates him playing one position only.

He's been frustrating us for a few years now. I've pretty much lost all hope for him.

Like many fans on this board, I'm obviously excited about the potential of Brooks Lee. But I was never really clamoring for a sudden call-up to the big team. We've got a fairly full roster, with no real health issues other than Kiriloff right now, and I'm still a bit puzzled as to where we will put Lee when he actually is called up. But hey, I don't think the Twins can put off this decision TOO MUCH LONGER. Lee is performing as well, or even better than expected and his bat would be a very welcome addition to the Twins lineup. Of course I'm just saying the same things that so many other people on this board have been saying for a while, but I think we've been patient enough; the time to call him up should be ASAP.

Can we get excited about Ricky Castro yet? Sure, it's VERY early days, but it sounds like the Twins found a true diamond in the rough with this guy. As Seth wrote, he's putting up some Zebby-like numbers so far. Keep it up, Ricky ... and don't lose that number!

Either way, it's unfortunate that he was picked so high and once he was in the organization, he never showed any signs that he was worth the pick.

Carlos Santana the All-Star is Closer Than You Think
Doctor Wu replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins will have one All-Star representative this year, okay maybe two if we are lucky, but Carlos Santana will not be one of them.- 33 replies

Yes indeed, Tyler Jay may have been the biggest swing and miss of the bunch. And although I liked Nick Gordan, and kept hoping he would turn into a good everyday player, that pick is looking like a stinker too. I will also agree with the posters who think that including Prieilipp and Canterino was unnecessary.

For a fairly mediocre pitcher, Pedro Ramos had a pretty long MLB career. I have fond memories of him only because I owned his baseball card (sadly, as a Yankee) when I was a youngster and for some odd reason it brought me good luck!

Did I just read the term "potential All-Star Carlos Santana" in this post? C'mon, folks, Sure, Carlos is finally above the Mendoza line and getting some timely hits and home runs, but an All-Star this season? I think that's a big stretch.

McKay seems to have become the missing man in that draft. I know that he had TJ surgery (or something close to that) but that was a few years ago. He was in spring training with the Rays this year, but I lost track or where he is pitching in their system, or if he is injured again. He was hyped as a possible 2-way player going into the draft, but that didn't seem to have materialized.

I was VERY disappointed that the Twins didn't take a pitcher with that pick in the draft, either one of the college arms or a youngster like Hunter Greene. Hard to pass up a talent like that. But ... despite his injury history thus far, Royce Lewis has shown that he can be a REAL special player, A game changer. In retrospect, I'm certainly happy that the Twins made him the pick. If he can stay healthy for the next decade, I foresee a perennial all-star. But darn it, I'd still like one of those pitchers!

Former Twins, Where are they now? 2024 edition
Doctor Wu replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I didn't realize that he was that old. But yeah, not a bad career for a guy considered a borderline utility player early in his career. Didn't the Twins pick him up on waivers originally? He had a couple of productive years with the Braves, so I'm sure he's not too disappointed. -
Very true, The Twins have certainly been streaky this season, but if they catch fire in October (if we make it to that point) things might be fun.

Yes, a very underrated player, but sadly one whose career was cut short. Anyway, a very informative review of his baseball career. Another one of those "what if" types of careers.

I know, this "kid gloves" approach to handling Raya, and not letting him pitch more than 3 or 4 innings, remains a bit mystifying.

Wingrove? Never noticed that name until today, but if has more games like this one I will be watching. Good to see so many prospects with good games, especially Festa and Raya. They may be the saviors of our pitching pipeline!
