  1. Almost all of the pitchers listed are new names to me, so I'm happy to read more about them. I know it's early to be making predictions, but do any of them seem like they could be legit prospects?
  2. An emphatic "NO" on the idea of trading Lopez. It took us this long to find another quality starter, it would be a big stop backwards to deal him this winter.
  3. Interesting, yes, and a bit unconventional too. Or at least it would have been an "outside the box" type of move a decade or two ago. Seems like the coaching ranks are getting younger and sometimes with coaches that have little or no experience playing at the MLB level. I have no real opinion as to whether this is a savvy hiring or not, I just hope he clicks with the players and we start getting more hits and runs across the plate.
  4. What is the latest regarding his status for pitching next season? Will he pitch anywhere over the winter? And if he's not on the 40-man roster, can he be taken in the Rule 5 draft?
  5. Not naive at all. On paper, and health permitting, this does have the makings of a good staff. Although I would still LOVE to find another quality veteran arm for the rotation, and maybe another one for the bullpen.
  6. Very good article, and many good responses. Lots of factors at play. Over the weekend I was thinking about the whole idea of selling the Twins, and how realistic this sale will be, and how soon it could happen, I'm no financial analyst or business tycoon so this is all uncharted territory for me. But with all the uncertainty regarding TV and/or streaming packages and revenue, it doesn't seem like a particularly good time to be putting your team on the market. As someone pointed out, unless the price is very affordable, chances are you aren't getting to have a bunch of buyers lining up to buy your baseball team. I will be pleasantly surprised if the team can be sold before the start of next season, but I doubt that will happen. Which means another year of frugality and despair.
  7. Profar in left field for the Padres! I loved his reaction after he caught that ball and took away the homer, and basically taunted the Dodger fans afterwards. Great stuff! I'm definitely pulling for the Padres in this series.
  8. If they are both healthy I think that wouldn't be a totally outlandish idea, although I think both will need to spend some time in the minors to start the season. But hey, if the arms are capable of getting batters out, why languish too long in the minors?
  9. Sadly, I see that as the most likely scenario. We may sign another ageing veteran for first base, or to stick in the bullpen, but I don't foresee any "wow" moves at all.
  10. ...or hoped for.
  11. I would wholeheartedly support a trade like that one!
  12. Yeah, I don't think any of the players listed are all that tough when you are taking about offering arbitration or not. Even Kiriloff might come back and justify all the hype. And even a relatively expensive Castro is still good value.
  13. Wow! That brings back memories. Game 163, and a helluva game it was. Definitely a big highlight in Twins history. On a side note, here in Bangkok where I live, I saw some guy on a motorcycle wearing a Gomez jersey last week. Go Go! That brought a big smile to my face!
  14. At this point it's very disappointing that guys like Lewis and Lee aren't considered "High End Core" players ... or is there still hope?
  15. I see the Twins keeping Paddack and not trading him, at least not until the summer deadline. I think he still has more value as a starter, but if he can become some sort of "lights out" bullpen piece I'd be up for that too. In any case, this idea of trading him doesn't seem to be the best move, especially with his value relatively low. I can't imagine that we'd get more than a minor league piece, and a very minor one, if we attempted to trade him this winter. As others have pointed out, he's still relatively young and seems like he has a lot of prove. Give him the chance.
  16. You got that right. And let's just hope he doesn't land on the IL next season either. Vasquez is a good backup but not sure if anyone from AAA can step up or not.
  17. That's perhaps the biggest reason we may see Rocco beyond this season. Too many factors beyond his control that can affect the roster. But that said, I agree with the basic thrust of this article: this coming season looks like do or die for Rocco.
  18. I'm with you on that idea. He may very well turn into a consistently good hitter, but other than sticking him at DH, where does he play ... and not look too embarrassing?
  19. Man, talk about the invisible man ... what is his status? Will he be able to pitch anywhere next season?
  20. Good point, Not only the Twins, but the Padres and Royals cuts him loose relatively quickly before he landed in Oakland and magically became a very productive player. Good in 2023 but very good in 2024. Gotta say I didn't see that coming.
  21. At some point, with all these various players that can play 1B, in the outfield, or DH, the Twins will need to make some cuts. As you noted, we have far too many injury prone players on our roster. Time to make some hard decisions.
  22. I was under the impression that nearly all of the new-breed GMs had MBAs!
  23. I still have hope that Prielipp is going to turn into a good pitcher for the Twins. Baby steps this season but it was encouraging to see him healthy and putting up good numbers.
  24. Yes, it was shocking, and very frustrating. Someone already mentioned "budget restraints" so maybe that was also a factor. We weren't privy to what sort of limitations the front office had to work with the past couple of seasons, so who knows why there was so little action. But it always seems like they wait too long, until the trade deadline is about the expire, before they go out and swing a trade, and by that point most of the quality players are off the board.
  25. Agree, I see him pretty much handling the same role again.
