  1. I appreciate these sorts of "out of the box" ways of thinking or suggesting trades. Never say never. That said, this guy doesn't sound like a great fit for the Twins, and I'm not even sure why the Nationals would want to trade him so soon after acquiring him late last season.
  2. This will go down as one of those rare win-win trades! Hopefully, it doesn't end up being the only deal the Twins make all winter.
  3. Thanks for the clarification. And again, very good article. It always helps us fans to gain more knowledge about how the organization thinks and acts.
  4. Very nice article. Lew Ford is a true old school baseball player. Imagine the concept: continuing to play the game because you love it. Whatever he decides to do next, all the best of luck to him.
  5. Another big stinker was the Twins getting the "other" Lopez from the Orioles and giving up Cano and Povich. Double ouch!!
  6. I think that's fair. You gotta take these rankings with a grain (or a big chunk) of salt. I like Soto's potential as much as anyone and hope the Twins don't rush him. As suggested in the article, starting him back at Ft. Myers to start the season makes the most sense. If his command and production improve then you can move him up to the next level.
  7. I think many of us are thinking same way. What is the plan? This off-season feels like we are walking through a dark forest with no moonlight to guide us.
  8. Neither one tickles my fancy, Plus, the Twins seem to have bad luck getting players from the Orioles, either via trades or waiver claims. Who was that pitcher we picked up the last month of the season, who only lasted about one week?
  9. Sure, in retrospect it looks like an awful trade, but that was so many years ago, and giving up a low-level prospect like Gil, and one with injury concerns, didn't seem like a big loss at all. What can you do? Trades like that are the quirks and magic of baseball. No way to properly evaluate all the variables, sometime you just have to take a chance. And hey, Cave wasn't a total wash at all.
  10. Good to hear. I especially like having Blewett as insurance for the bullpen.
  11. Some interesting names you point out there. More than one of those players could step up and help the bullpen this season.
  12. Many Twins fans have been clamoring for Luzardo for a couple of years now. He's always been an intriguing pitcher with lots of potential, but the frequent injury concerns that you mentioned are a red flag. That said, if they could trade a player like Larnach straight up for him I'd do it. But as others have suggested, I think it would take a lot more to make that trade, and no way am I giving up Lewis for Luzardo.
  13. I think so too. Many people seem eager to trade Paddack for salary relief and/or to get something interesting/usable in return, but I'd prefer to hang on to him this coming season and see if, like you suggested, he's fully healthy two years past the TJ surgery and can help to fortify the rotation. Prospects like Morris look like they may be able to help soon, but "soon" may be another year or two from now, and as bean5302 wrote, some of these guys may not be much better than the Nick Blackburn types we burned through over the past decade.
  14. Good article that helps us understand a bit better about why so many of the young drafted pitchers aren't put into action sooner. That said, I was hoping for more input or quotes from Nat Ballenberg, the pitching coordinator that was mentioned in the first paragraph. Reading the rest of the article, I wasn't sure which points were ones that came from Ballenberg or were Jamie's own synopsis. Nevertheless, good stuff!
  15. I hope they protect Nowlin too. He looked good this past season, and as you suggested, he may end up as a bullpen weapon.
  16. Hey, put away the Delmon Young Trade Tree. I’m still updating those numbers! I will be eagerly awaiting this updated tree!!
  17. Yes, indeed! Our system is not exactly overflowing with quality catching prospects. Trading either Jeffers or Vasquez, even to save money, does not seem like a prudent move this coming season. Unless, of course, we can re-sign Astudillo!
  18. I agree. Of course being healthy is a big issue with Topa, plus he's not a young man any longer. But I still like his potential, and keeping him around, especially if the cost is low, might be a good investment.
  19. Hmm ... I agree in the sense the Paddack DOES indeed have some upside and value. So why not keep him? Many people are eager to trade him away, but I still like the idea of giving him another shot this season. Plus, do we really expect to get much value in return for trading him at this point?
  20. I agree, The Twins have been starved for pitching quality for so many years, that I hate the idea of trading away young arms. Sure, I get the idea of trying to getting better bats in the lineup, but I think we aren't so desperate that we need to trade away some of those young arms. And really, how much quality would we get in return? I don't see the benefit.
  21. The idea of Jax going back to a starter's role is intriguing. On one hand, you don't want to mess with a winning formula, due to his dominance in the bullpen this past season. We obviously need more shut-down weapons in the pen. But he's still young and it seems like he has the will and determination to try and tackle a bigger role ... so, why not?
  22. One of the things that strikes me, or puzzles me, is how much people are making about his potential salary for next year. I realize that the Twins have a limited budget, but for what Castro brings to the team, his salary should not be considered any sort of huge burden. He may be the most tradeable of the players on the current roster (factoring in his role with the team, and who could replace his innings, and what the Twins could get in return) but I think we should seriously think about keeping him for another season at least. Maybe he'll never make another All-Star team, but I like his speed and versatility and hustle.
  23. That's actually a very good point. Most Twins fans are thrilled with Castro, mainly because of that versatility, but how much will other teams value that, or think he might be a starter?
