  1. Speaking of injury updates, what's the status of Matt Canterino as we approach the new season?
  2. As someone wrote, patience is required. And then some! Yes, on paper the Twins have the makings of a good team and a competitive team, but it's also a very fragile roster that doesn't have the necessary depth or top-end weapons to win the division and advance in the playoffs. Hey, healthy permitting and hoping for some bounce-back years from a few of these guys and we might be looking very good by September, and yet I'm not feeling terribly optimistic right now.
  3. I agree, You can debate the character stuff, and with Rose the betting on baseball games was an obvious error, but he was such an amazing player for so long that it really seem unjust to exclude him. Of course now that he's passed away, any slight impetus to get him in the hall has probably come and gone. Meanwhile, of the players not selected yet, I'd pick Andruw Jones. Relatively short career but for his first 10 years he was a definite hall of fame type player.
  4. Another very interesting Twins history lesson! For me, the most amazing tidbit was this: Reese is the co-holder of the major league record for pinch-hit grand slam home runs in a career with three
  5. Haitian 3B Jamesson Val officially signed with the Minnesota Twins on January 15. We got a player from Haiti !? That seems to be a rare occurrence, but why is that? We see tons of players coming from the Dominican Republic, but hardly any from Haiti, and both countries occupy the same island. I suppose it may be the infrastructure or politics, or maybe lack of baseball programs in Haiti, but I honestly don't know and I'm curious. Does anyone have any knowledge about baseball culture in Haiti?
  6. Canterino is like some sort of secret treasure chest that for several years Twins fans have wanted to dig up and open. Lots of hope and expectations. But like others have written, he needs to show he's healthy and then put up some impressive numbers in the minors before we start to think about having him at Target Field.
  7. That was indeed a mystifying thing. Why call up a player and then hardly use him at all? At least give the kid a fair opportunity. But anyway, very good article. I still think our catching depth is fairly shallow. but at least with the addition of Cartaya (and maybe even Gasper) we have additional options going forward. In any case, I think we need to hold on to Vasquez for now.
  8. Speaking of which, has any team taken a chance on him this coming season yet?
  9. To me, that's the biggest concern, and the major reason that we can't get too confident about our bullpen this season. I still think we need at least one more veteran LHP added to the bullpen. But even that is no guarantee we will be dominant. As someone whitey 333 wrote, bullpens are indeed very fragile and unpredictable things.
  10. Whoa, I had no idea his innings numbers were that miniscule. Ouch! He has obviously shown talent in recent years, but his injury history is a red flag.
  11. Very interesting article, Seth. You must have done a helluva lotta research for this one. Much appreciated. You wrote: Of course, in Twins terms, I’m also old enough to actually, clearly remember both of the Twins' World Series championship teams, seasons, and games. Old! Hey, I can remember those days too. Too bad, they happened MUCH TOO LONG ago!
  12. Obviously, no platoon role for Buxton, I was referring to Keirsey's possible role.
  13. Rodriguez is certainly close, but I would think that he makes more sense as an everyday starter as opposed to a platoon role like Keirsey would have.
  14. Appreciate the information. I certainly won't see this sort of signing on ESPN. Another infielder? Okay, maybe not an exciting signing, but with these young Dominican players, who knows what can happen. Always worth a shot, but yeah, that "flame-throwing" pitcher would have been a nice get too!
  15. Sure, it's unlikely but still within the realm of possibility. Hopefully he will be one of those prospects that actually DOES end up being a factor in the majors. You can never have enough good athletes in the system, so I'm happy that we are able to sign him.
  16. Yeah, it's been a very bleak off-season thus far, and hey, we are only about a month away from spring training. My favorite move, or signing so far was getting Huascar Ynoa on a minor league deal with an invite to spring training. If he's finally healthy he COULD crack the starting rotation or become a good piece in the bullpen.
  17. If he still has anything left in the tank, by all means sign him to a minor league deal. He was very effective in Miami and Tampa Bay ... but that's been a few years, and a few injuries ago.
  18. I had never heard of Fritz Polka before either. But what an absolutely GREAT baseball name!
  19. Moving him from the infield to the outfield MAY have played a part in his batting stats going down. If he stays in left field all year maybe that help settle his mind and get his batting average back up again. I think his bat will come around.
  20. This shift doesn’t mean the Twins will recklessly pursue high-priced free agents or load the roster with big contracts. Well, I don't think any of us were ever worried THAT would happen!
