  1. Yeah, the track record in that respect could be a lot better. We might as well trade Martin to the A's and let him become an All-Star like Rooker! Seriously, I actually wasn't that bothered that the Twins traded Rooker to San Diego (he was a victim of "too many cooks in the kitchen" with the Twins) so his recent surge caught me by total surprise, And the guys (Steer and CES) that we gave up in that ill-fated Reds trade, will have their moments, but then again, they were surplus players that we could afford to lose. The Orioles trade was that one that hurt us the most, giving up Povich and Cano. Going forward, I'd still like the Twins to take more chances on drafting pitchers that can/might make an impact, instead of focusing so much on athletic shortstop types. I understand the logic of drafting like that, but I'd like us to have even more quality pitchers/arms in the system.
  2. I am reading LOTs of books lately, trying to ignore crazy politics, and listening to good music! But hey, I am still checking online for any news of trades, free agent signings, or waiver claims. I'm still a baseball addict.
  3. SWR could turn into a very good starter, but I still think if the Twins end up "winning" this trade it will be because Austin Martin turns into an above average player. I'm still hoping he gets the chance and that happens, but I think it would help immensely if the team has him stick to one position and allow him to be confident and comfortable in that role.
  4. I wouldn't make an assumption like that just yet. We added some catching depth, but it's still basically another minor league player who is not quite ready for the show.
  5. Whatever the role, it seems like a very good thing to bring him back into the Twins organization. Good move!
  6. I like that idea. Not sure if second base is the best place for Martin, but I sure wish they would stick him somewhere for a while and quit trying to make him some sort of super utility player.
  7. On paper this is a good team, but I don't think we are truly a playoff-caliber team as things stand. Hey, maybe EVERYTHING will go as planned and ALL the players stay healthy and players like Buxton, Lewis, Correa, Lopez, Ryan, Ober, and the bullpen crew all have career years. But ... I don't see this happening. We still need some fine tuning in places and perhaps more depth in the bullpen. I'm usually hopeful and optimistic by nature, but honestly I'm not feeling very excited about the Twins this year. Other teams in the division, such as the Tigers and Royals look much stronger, but the Twins continue to tread water.
  8. Pache is one of those prospects that never lived up to the hype. the stereotypical good field-no hit type of player. He didn't click with the Braves, or even Oakland, and going over to Philly didn't rejuvenate him either. Worth a minor league signing, I suppose, but he ain't getting any younger.
  9. I was thinking about Nick Gordon the other day, wondering if any team would take a chance on him. Good luck to him and also to Thielbar.
  10. Fascinating article. I had never heard of this "proposed" move either. I have fond memories of .... staying in St. Louis Park whenever I would visit Minneapolis and attend Twins games back in the Humpty Dome days.
  11. Wake me up when spring training starts. Maybe there will be a pleasant surprise or two at that point.
  12. Has Thielbar really and truly "departed" or will we see him again in spring training?
  13. These aren’t game-changing names. That goes without saying. If that's the case, there isn't much need to try and sign most of these guys, no matter how affordable they may appear. I'm more inclined to try out some of our prospects at this point, but I'd still like to find a first baseman that can field well, similar to what we got from Santana last season.
  14. That was my first thought/hope ... but then I read the rest of the article! Oh well, no gold glove contender but I suppose it's some sort of fallback plan, as desperate as it seems.
  15. That's all there is to say!
  16. No pitchers listed at all? Seems like a few of those guys that had good years may not be as effective next season. Obviously I hope that nobody regresses, but it's bound to happen to some of them.
  17. A year from now that is the most likely outcome.
  18. Good memory! That would be a most satisfactory outcome.
  19. Ha! That's putting it mildly! I've been critical of the front office and their reluctance to sign free agents, at least waiting until well into the new year so sign the castoffs, but this time around ... I don't know. The crazy money I see those relatively good/fair free agents are getting is just ridiculous. Hey, I realize that it's the new normal, but I hate it. Plus, the cream of the crop is signing with the Yankees and Mets and Dodgers and the usual big market teams. MLB needs some sort of reset.
  20. For a utility player, he had a pretty good career.
  21. This was one of those "not sure what I think" trades. I always liked Moran's potential, and the fact that he was a lefty seemed a plus, even after his rehab from surgery. But this minor league catcher they picked up doesn't seem to move the needle much, so I can't see much reason for the trade. Not sure if this means that they really think they can move Vasquez before the season starts, or if Gaspar is more of a AAA insurance policy in place of Camargo. In any case, let's hope for some more useful trades/acquisitions in the months ahead.
  22. I understand your point, but I'm sort of feeling the opposite. I have a lot of optimism that the bats will come around this season, but I have more concerns about the pitching, both the starters and the depth in the bullpen. On paper, it all looks "good" but I'm not so optimistic the arms will hold up.
