  1. Very good article, shedding more light on a player that, as you noted, hasn't received a lot of hype yet. I didn't realize that his plate discipline was so good. Very good, in fact. That's a start, but as others have noted, he will need to show a bit of power, and some defensive skills, as he moves up through the system. His debut was encouraging, so I hope for more progress this coming season.
  2. That struck me too. I realize, that based on last year's stats, Kepler WAS the player used the most in that spot, but I also would agree that Kepler didn't fit the mold of the typical cleanup hitter. I think it will be yet another season of juggling various players in the cleanup spot. Nobody on the current roster strikes me as ideal for the spot on a regular basis.
  3. Yeah, but that was the prevailing thought at this time last year too, and we ended up needing more arms.
  4. What you write makes sense, at least for this season, with the financial restraints appearing to be real/severe as they seem for the Twins. So yes, that might be more effective. But my main gripe is that the Twins employ this waiting/late strategy every Winter, limited budgets or not, and invariably many of the players who are targeted (okay, perhaps most of those targeted players are ones named on this board, and not necessarily the ones that the front office are pursuing), are snatched up by other teams while the Twins play their usual waiting game. But you are correct in saying that might be the Twins' best strategy this time around. It's not like we are going to outbid any other teams for the better free agents out there. But if we want better players on the roster, at least ones that we didn't develop ourselves, we need to be more pro-active and more creative with deals or free agent signings.
  5. Good point, As you noted, in the recent past, the Twins didn't have much of any pitchers in the system who were truly worthy of promotion to the big club. That's not the case any longer, and for that we should all be very grateful. Of course, the next step is for some of these pitchers to actually perform well at the MLB level. Here's hoping that they can do it.
  6. I agree, Once again, Twins fans wait and wait, while the GM plays his own waiting game, hoping for bargains or "creative" trade ideas falling into his lap, and meanwhile any possible good fits are being signed by other clubs. Same old.
  7. From what I read, the Phillies plan to put Kepler in left field.
  8. Unless the Twins are fully committed to a rebuild you do NOT trade Lopez.
  9. That's pretty much the bottom line. Luzardo is a player who COULD help a team, but he always seems to be battling injuries. If we are talking trades, I think we can do better without giving up top prospects.
  10. I always liked Laureano and wouldn't mind having him join the Twins. Not sure if his best days are really behind him. He played pretty well last season, especially after the Braves picked him up.
  11. I have confidence that Festa will be a valuable member of the rotation, but I'm still not sure if that starts in early 2025 or not. And honestly, whether he starts the season with the big club or not is not that important. Just keep him healthy and let him develop another pitch if that's deemed necessary. I like his tools and makeup so I think his future is bright.
  12. I was pleasantly surprised by Santana's performance last year. Signing an ageing veteran always gives me pause but he more than held his own last season. I was one of those fans who was VERY skeptical when the Twins signed Nelson Cruz a few years back, and he proved me wrong too. And even though I wouldn't find having Santana hold down first base base, I think it's time to give Miranda, or someone younger than30, a shot at manning that position next season.
  13. Good article. I'm one of those fans that misses the excitement of stolen bases, and just speed on the base paths in general. And of course just better baserunning. Everybody is raving about Ohtani's 2024 season, combining power and speed, but what amazes me is the surge he had in stolen bases, and doing it without hardly every getting caught. What happened? I checked his stats and he basically averaged between 10 and 20 stolen bases for his first 6 seasons before exploding for 59 stolen bases last season. And he only got caught 4 times, the same number of times he got caught while stealing only 10 bases in 2018. We need to find the Dodgers base running coach and hire that guy!
  14. The idea of the Twins being able to sign a coveted pitcher like Sasaki seems like pure fantasy, but as you pointed out in the article, the Twins are one of eight teams to have this year’s top pool allotment ... so I guess it's within the realm of possibility. Hey, I'll ask Santa to add it to my list!
  15. I think you meant DeBarge, but yes, he seems to be the forgotten prospect from this most recent draft. He certainly does seem like a better defender than Amick, but once again, with all these "versatile" infielders in the system, he may find it a battle for playing time.
  16. Some of these guys are going to need to find new positions, or plan on being more versatile. Right now we just have too many similar players that need playing time in the infield.
  17. Happy 46th birthday to 1997 Austin High School graduate Michael Wuertz. He pitched in 426 major league games for the Chicago Cubs and Oakland Athletics between 2004 and 2011. Pretty long career for Wuertz, at least it seems long to me, mainly because I have zero memory of him playing in MLB at all!
  18. That suggestion makes a lot of sense. But I'm still puzzled how they are going to give everyday playing time to Brooks Lee, Miranda, Julian, AND Lewis, not to mention the super-utility guys like Castro and Martin. At least one of those guys needs to be traded or they languish all year in AAA.
  19. I like Correa and think he brings a lot to our team, but if the Twins are even remotely serious about trading Correa, do it now, before he becomes the next Josh Donaldson.
  20. I love watching Tiant pitch too. Not many pitchers had a unique delivery like that, plus he got results. He started his career on fire, had some injuries, but then came back even stronger. Maybe this veterans committee will see fit to vote him in the next time around. He think he deserves being in the hall.
  21. Interesting article, and I appreciate the "spitballing" idea, but I just can't see how trading Ryan or Ober would make us a better team this coming season, even if we received something akin to an "impact" bat in return. If the Twins truly are thinking about competing this coming season we need to keep each one of those three top starters. But on the other hand, if the current ownership is somehow intent on cutting payroll and going into a rebuilding mode, then we might at well try and trade all three of those guys. It's either one or the other.
  22. I would welcome him back in a heartbeat. His numbers with the Padres last year more more than decent.
