  1. Very good question. The mystery continues.
  2. Well, it appears he may still be playing with the Twins, but as far as starting at any one position, I would not bet any money on anything in that regard.
  3. I just noticed that Gilberto Celestino is now with the Mets in spring training. He had 2 hits in Sunday's game.
  4. I found this bit about Washington and the Senior league on Wikpedia; Infielder Ron Washington of West Palm Beach was the league's offensive star, hitting .359 with a league leading 73 RBIs and winning the MVP award.[1] Washington's teammate Mickey Rivers hit .366, and Gold Coast Sun Bert Campaneris, the oldest everyday player in the league at 47, stole 16 bases.
  5. Very good and informative article about a player I knew almost nothing about previously. As others have said, it may be too early to proclaim him a rising star, but the stats from his first full season are promising. Will he stay a starter or turn to relief? Sure it's a cliche, but only time will tell. In any case, another promising prospect to keep an eye on. Thanks for the post!
  6. “You don’t always have to wait for the three-run homer. Sometimes, you just have to find a way to move the line along. You get to hit, then you move on to the next guy. You take a walk, then you move on to the next guy. I think our guys are talking about that kind of offensive approach." In other words, the way that baseball has normally been played the past 100 years or so.
  7. I always smile when I read or hear that phrase. Great stuff!
  8. And back before he got the Texas manager's job he was third base coach for the A's (and later for the Braves too) and many players praised him for helping them. Other obscure Ron Washington facts: he led the Pacific Coast League in hitting one year (in between MLB stints with Baltimore and Houston), and he was selected the MVP of the very short-lived "Senior Baseball Association" (for players over the age of 35; some were retired from regular play, but others like Ron, were still trying to hook up with MLB teams) back in 1989
  9. Do you have any recollection of Tom Klawitter? Honestly, not at all. That must have been during my wilderness years when I wasn't following the team as much as usual. But I really enjoy these articles. Keep 'em coming1
  10. Count me as interested too. Like you said, he's still young, and if he continues to work on his control he could be a sneaky good guy to have.
  11. Good point. I realize that the Twins are planning to treat Prielipp very cautiously this season, certainly keeping him on an innings/pitches limit, but if he's healthy I don't think giving him some bullpen time will do any harm, especially if his "stuff" is looking good.
  12. Ha! I totally agree. I don't think you can dismiss poor performances in spring training, or even get overly optimistic about a young player putting up eye-popping impressive numbers ... but at some point some of this stuff DOES matter. I'm a spring training junkie, so I love reading these reports. Thanks!
  13. Well, the current Angels manager is Ron Washington, who seems to be a players favorite, so it can't be all bad. But yeah, the likelihood of the Angels making the playoffs remains very slim.
  14. Yeah, Floro had an odd year in 2024. He had very impressive stats with Washington for most of the season, and then looked horrible after Arizona picked him up. But hey, for the A's it's not much risk on a minor league deal.
  15. If his boyhood idol was Prince, what is going to be his "walk up" music (or whatever the equivalent is for a pitcher taking the mound)? So many possible suggestions, many of them which probably won't get past the censors ...
  16. I haven't checked the stats on that (then again, how do you accurately measure "bigger and stronger"?) but it certainly DOES seem like that's what's been happening in baseball in recent years. Not sure if they are happening more often, but the injuries do seem more severe in any case. Does "bulking up" help or hurt an athlete in regards to preventing injuries? I'm sure someone out there has some proper medical knowledge about this issue.
  17. Hmm, it certainly can't hurt. As things look now, the infield defense has the potential to be very .,, unpredictable. On a side note, looking at the photo of Rocco near the top of the page, I still can't get used to that ugly new "M" cap.
  18. Nick, are you saying that we should not expect Prielipp to thrown more than 80 innings this coming season, or in any season in the near future? I realize that the Twins need to bring him along slowly, but at some point in the next year or two I still hold out hope that he can become a starting pitcher again.
  19. Another good article. I was too young to remember seeing Vic Power play, but from all reports he was an outstanding first baseman. Wish we had someone like that manning the position this coming season.
  20. Miranda seems to have the most upside with the bat, but he can also serve as DH. My main concern is putting a player at first base that can field the position well. Santana obviously did a good job of doing that last season. but I don't see anyone of the first base candidates on the Twins challenging for a gold glove this season.
  21. Agreed, In fact, it's hard to get fired up about ANY of the signings this winter. Not much to move the needle or excite the fans. Feels like band-aid and insurance acquisitions for the most part. Seems like a trade still needs to happen, if only to get rid of some of the excess on the roster and of course trim that budget.
  22. Lewis, Jax, and Ryan seem like they could/should be most worthy if they stay healthy and productive, but as others have noted, don't sleep on Ober or Miranda. Ober, in particular, seems like he could make a big jump this season. In any case, I'm hoping that ALL of those players will be worthy of a chance in the ASG.
