  1. I have a fun Lenny Webster memory. Back in the late 1980s, when I was living in Orlando, Lenny was a member of the AA Orlando Twins. During one of those summers, in mid-August (I remember the date, because it fell during "Elvis Day," the anniversary of Presley's death on Aug. 16), a friend an I were visiting Memphis and the O-Twins were in town. By sure chance we stayed at the same hotel as the Twins. One afternoon, as I walked through the lobby, there was Lenny Webster, playing the piano in the lobby, with Willie Banks serving as his audience. I still get a laugh, thinking about that. I talked to both players and there were very friendly and down to earth. Good memories. I can't offer a professional critique of Lenny's piano skills, but he seemed very good to my ears.
  2. I agree. When I read the headline of this article, I thought: huh? Why would the Twins even think of sending him down? Sure, you can get into the Festa comparisons, or whatever, but SWR has earned his spot in the rotation and certainly deserves to keep it going forward.
  3. I love these types of interviews, Very interesting stuff. Thank you!
  4. Well, at least we out-hit them and scored some more runs this game, but 13 players LOB is not an encouraging stat. But hey, let's keep the momentum and go for that sweep tomorrow!
  5. I just saw that the Twins now have Richard Lovelady in the system, pitching in AAA. Not a bad pickup. He pitched fairly well for both Oakland and Tampa Bay in recent years. If nothing else, he might be good insurance for our bullpen.
  6. The Twins were able to outright Diego Cartaya from the 40-man roster earlier on Friday, so Clemens' addition will not need a corresponding move on the 40-man roster. The first part of the article mentioned "trading" for Clemens. I may have missed it, but did we actually trade anyone to get him? I don't see any other names mentioned except that we outrighted Cartaya.
  7. Ha! I was just thinking of Astudillo. At this point, either one of those guys would suffice.
  8. Thanks for another fun roundup, Seth, Man, Billy Amick keeps hitting! Now batting .377 with an eye-popping OBP of .506. Obviously, not sustainable for too long, but a very impressive start. The most surprising part of those stats is that he hasn't homered yet. I didn't think he would end up amounting to much when we drafted him, but thus far he's played better than I expected.
  9. Hope he can regain his health and still be able to pitch for some team, even if it's not us, in the near future. He certainly had a lot of potential.
  10. The Angels look like a much better team this season. Can't take them lightly whatsoever.
  11. Yeah, we perhaps need to put these wins against the White Sox in perspective. But still, it's fun to see a bit of energy and production for a change.
  12. Yes indeed, The more runners we can get on base, the more havoc we can cause. Of course, that may be overly optimistic thinking on my part, but I remain hopeful.
  13. Schobel has dropped in the prospect rankings, but so far this season he is looking more like the player the Twins hoped he would be when they drafted him. He'll turn 24 this season, so he's not a youngster, but there may be some hope for him yet.
  14. Just the fact that they are stealing bases and running the bases more ... intently .... intelligently ... aggressively ... not sure how to define it, but it's fun to watch.
  15. The Twins (okay, mainly Keaschall) showing speed on the base paths! What a welcome development!
  16. I got to admit that I forgot Tonkin was still with the organization. Hey, it's a rehab outing, but not very encouraging.
  17. Gore, Greene, and also the 2-way guy McKay were all projected top 5 picks in that draft. Never any sure things, but I still wish we had gone with a pitcher in that draft. Of course when Royce Lewis comes back from the IL (eventually?) and looks like an All-Star, I will eat my words again.
  18. Not only the Twins, but also the Padres and even the (then) lowly Royals also parted ways with Rooker relatively quickly. Oakland was his last chance and credit to him for making the most of it, but I honestly don't think the Twins made any sort of mistake adding him to that trade package.
  19. I'll say it again: thank heavens for these minor league reports. But the dismal state of our major league club, it's refreshing to read about some of these positive developments on the farm. Looking forward to more, and longer, good outings from Prielipp and Soto.
  20. I think the Twins might have a tough time against the Angels. They look a lot better this season.
  21. That is most likely what will happen, but it would be very nice if those two can stay somewhat productive. Plus, Bader's glove in left field has been terrific. And we can't forget young Luke. Looking good so far.
