  1. I've noticed the kids repeatedly shouting "Rocco! Rocco!" in bizarre Tourette's-like outbursts when things don't go as planned.
  2. Given his prime Keuchel-ian play, he probably deserved an even better line. Kuechel-ian. I love it!
  3. Connor Gilliespie? Who? What? Never heard of the guy and honestly, I wasn't sure if it was another infielder or pitcher we had picked up. And I'm not sure that it makes much difference.
  4. And only 4 hits! Yikes, You are correct: our pitching saved us in this game.
  5. Michael Tonkin is still alive and pitching? Good heavens, we may actually need him back in Minnesota to help our beleaguered bullpen. Then again, maybe we can convert him to a starter.
  6. Well said. Plenty of good arms, but need to find more that can truly make an impact. I still have high hopes for Prielipp, and maybe Soto, but those guys are still a year or two or three down the road, and they both have injury concerns already. Sigh. It's hard work being a Twins fan!
  7. The only positives I can take from this game are Buxton's incredible catch (he's still a joy to watch), and the multiple hits by Correa and Lee. But even those slight positives doesn't diminish another horrific performance. Not much to look forward to, expect for the upcoming draft ... NBA or MLB?
  8. If anything, the timing is the big surprise. Why announce an extension now? And why do it the midst of yet another depressing losing streak? I don't get it.
  9. Wow, that's put things in perspective even more. And if we take away Buxton's steals, the total is even more meager.
  10. Yes, this whole voting process is flawed to begin with. It would be shocking if any Twins player in any given year received enough votes to be a starter. The masses are just voting for the same old names or hometown favorites.
  11. You wrote about Buxton: He drew four more walks in six games last week, and now has 12 in June with only 10 strikeouts. It's a remarkable spike in a discipline, and we'll see how long it can sustain. Yes indeed, based on his history, that truly is a remarkable turnaround. Buxton has finally been playing like the player we had hoped he would be, but as you said, can he sustain this level of play ... and not end up on the IL again? Buxton or not, this team appears to be going nowhere fast. I'm in the "sell now" camp at this point.
  12. Kyle DeBarge stole his 38th base of the season in this one. He’s now 38-for-39 in stolen base attempts over 62 games played this season. Now that is an impressive stat!
  13. An excellent and very encouraging outing from Marco Raya. With the sad state of pitching on the big league club lately, we may need him back at Target Field very soon. Let's just hope he's turned a corner and can contribute like we expect he can.
  14. Interesting box score the other day when the Reds played in St. Louis. Our old pal Sonny Gray was the starting pitcher for the Cardinals, but closing out the game in the bullpen for Cincy, and the losing pitcher of record, was Chase Petty ---yes, the same player the Twins traded for Gray a few years ago. I had missed the fact that he was brought up from the minors. I wonder if they are going to keep him in the bullpen or give him a chance to start at some point?
  15. Good post! Sure, it would be fun, and appropriate, to have Buxton in the home run derby at this particular All-Star game. And based on his performance this season, he would be a force to be reckoned with. Sure there is an injury risk, and with Buxton, that can be a concern, but I think the risk is minimal in this case. But that leads me to another question: who decides which players can participate in this activity? Is it the manager of each All-Star team, or someone else?
  16. Interesting idea for a post, and I applaud you for writing it. I have no idea what Castro's intention was, nor am I overly concerned about what sort of reaction or criticism of what he did happened. Let the man play ball. But I think we all need to be careful about the terminology and the way we talk about these issues. You wrote: Trans rights are human rights I would agree with that, but I also think it's not accurate to lump gay/lesbian/bisexual people into a "trans" category. Totally different things. Too many people are lumping all these sexual variances into the same bag, and I don't think that's accurate or fair. Yes, it's a slippery slope, and you need to have a good grip to navigate these acronym mazes. That said, I think it's still fair to talk about these issues, especially when it comes to the acceptance of differences in human behavior. Other matters, such as the "promotion" of Pride Month by MLB teams, are perhaps a separate issue. But if a player wants to show support for any sort of cause or issue, that's fine with me.
  17. First I've heard about any such threats to Ober. It was bad and disturbing enough to hear about the threats to McCullers of the Astros last month, but it's utterly unacceptable for ANY player to be threatened or harassed. I hope they are able track down the creeps that make these threats and lock them up.
  18. Yeah, he has a bit of MLB experience, so it DID seem like he might have been a player we could have used for some sort of time with the club. No major loss, but if we need arms he could have been handy to keep around.
