Now that the Twins are playing better and back in a playoff hunt, why would they want to trade one of their more reliable starting pitchers? Yes, we have some depth at AAA but I'm not sure it's strong enough to overcome the potential absence of Paddack. And deal him for what? If it looks like we are tanking a month from now, go ahead and field whatever offers there are and then try and trade him. But at this point I think the Twins are better off holding on to him.

Yeah, Ober threw a ton of pitches and not many innings to show for it. Lots of mistakes and "what ifs" in that game. But hey, we almost pulled off another extra inning win. Hope for better on Sunday.

I'm just an ordinary Twins fans with no special powers of analysis or helpful suggestions. But clearly, Royce Lewis is struggling and needs a break, or rehab, or a reset, or something, and it should be done ASAP. As many others have already said, he is not doing much of anything to help the Twins lately. He is a player that has shown that he CAN be special and very productive, but we aren't seeing signs of those skills this season.

Technically, it’s legal. Across the league, the practice is becoming more common. But no team seems to embrace it as eagerly or as frequently as the Minnesota Twins. Seems to, or are the Twins really cheaper than other teams? I honestly don't know, but as you noted, this seems to be a common practice in MLB nowadays, so I'm not sure this is an issue worth worrying about to much. That said ... It’s about the perception the Twins are creating across the baseball world. Prospects, minor-league free agents, and indie ball standouts pay attention. They see who treats players like people and who treats them like payroll liabilities. The more the Twins act like the latter, the harder it becomes to attract high-character depth options in the future. If this is indeed the perception that agents and players have of the Twins, then it certainly is an issue that needs to be looked at and changed. People always take about the "culture" of the club, so if we are seen as cheap or unfair, that will certainly handicap any efforts to lure players to the organization. Maybe this is, as others have posted, much ado about nothing, but I wouldn't just dismiss it as nonsense.

Great roundup, Seth! Very good news that Prielipp is coming back to pitch this week. And also nice to see Eeles is finally back in action, plus a great (but short) outing from Dasan Hill, and DeBarge continuing his hot streak. A productive day on the farm!

Seems to me that Watkins does this much too often. Does he get caught up in the heat of the moment, wanting the runner to score, or are his decision-making skills that poor?

The Minnesota Twins Pitching Staff Is a Buzzsaw
Doctor Wu replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm not so certain about the staff having a "buzzsaw" type of effectiveness, but you are right: this may be one of the most balanced (good word) and effective groups of pitchers that we have ever had. Maybe no Santana-type ace, but still a very good bunch. Knock on wood for continued good health and strikeouts.- 35 replies

What's up with Royce Lewis and his lack of productivity? This prolonged slump is very concerning.

Thinking about All-Star picks already? Hmm ... let's revisit this list again in late June and then we'll have a better idea. Too many things can happen (nosediving performances and injuries) during the next month.

Very good roundup. Could Darren Bowen be one of those late-bloomers and become a legitimate prospect? Quite possible, at least judging from the impressive year he is having thus far at AA. Fun to see those sorts of players pop up on the prospect radar.

Yeah, I remember what an impressive rookie season he had. And after that, my memory of his career tails off, but then again, once the late 1970s came along, I was in college and had plenty of other things to focus on besides baseball, so I wasn't paying as much attention. Still, it's a shame he didn't have a longer career after such a promising start.

I love these strolls down memory lane, plus some wild and crazy stats from Tovar and Mauer. Baseball remains a fun game!

Fantastic, and wild, double play for the Saints! Good heads-up baseball! Any very nice to see Marco Raya come back strong. As noted: Pitching into the fourth inning for the first time this season, Raya capped his outing with a 1-2-3 frame. When all was said and done, Raya had delivered four perfect innings with seven strikeouts. The first time he's hit the fourth inning plateau this season? I hope it gives him more confidence going forward. Of course, he will need to be "allowed" to pitch past the five inning barrier at some point, but at least this was an encouraging performance.

Yes, that wear on the bullpen is a real concern. It sure would be nice to have one of our starters treat us to a complete game every once in a while, or at least a solid 7 innings.

Something seems definitely "off" with Cory Lewis this season. Woeful stats thus far. But on the positive side, another very thorough roundup of the minor league action. Thanks again for keeping us updated!

Heck, don't rush any of these guys. The B-squad seems to be doing alright lately, so let's make sure our regular players are fully healthy.

Bader doesn't look comfortable as he tries to play through a groin injury, and isn't playing center field as a result. Seems like an IL stint might be better, as Bader has gone 0-8 the past two days. Yes to that idea. As Tony&Rodney also noted, Bader doesn't have his usual "bounce" or the energy that was so infectious a month ago. I admire his desire to play through an injury, but some down time may be the best course of action at this point.

Thanks for another thorough report. Tanner Schoebel is having a very good season in Wichita. He turns 24 next month, so not a young prospect, but he's looking like he COULD be someone who could make the show in another year or two. Do we see a promotion to AAA anytime soon?

Remembering Random Twins: Frank Rodriguez
Doctor Wu replied to William Malone's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yes, I remember all the high expectations for him when the Red Sox drafted him. But it just never clicked for him with them or with the Twins. I can't remember if there were arm/injury issues, or what the problem was. I want to say that he had some sort of off-field issue that was a red flag, but I could be thinking about another player. Reading this interview (very good stuff: thank you!) Rodriguez sounds like a very intelligent and thoughtful person, totally at peace at where he is in the world. Really enjoyed this article!
