  1. Yes, to all of that. I don't see this team contending at this juncture. Try and trade as many of those players as you can, although we need to be realistic about any sort of value we get in return.
  2. Great article! Seeing that cropped photo of the 1963 Topps All-Star Rookie card brought back some great memories. That may have been the first year that I started collecting cards ... although that habit was happily forced on me without me having to ask. I was only 4 years old but luckily, my grandfather knew someone at Topps and I was able to get free boxes of baseball cards for the next 10 years or so. Sheer heaven for a kid! I also liked the photo in this post: Special instructor Lou Brock working with Twins youngsters Kirby Puckett, Billy Beane, Ron Washington, and Alex Marte at spring training 1986. Hard to imagine Ron Washington as a "youngster" but I suppose he sort of was back in those days!
  3. Sad to hear that prognosis. I thought about the possibility of the Twins getting him back after he was waived by the Rays. I knew we wouldn't be getting the second coming of Joe Mauer, but I had hoped that he still has some defensive chops.
  4. After this recent attrition to our starting pitchers I was wondering what had happened to Huascar Ynoa, the pitcher we signed in the off-season and invited to spring training. He had a bit of success with Atlanta before injuries slowed him down, and I thought the signing was a good one. But we sent him down to AAA before the season started and then he was released by St. Paul in mid-April. I saw that he is now playing for Yucatan in the Mexican league. Any idea why he was released or did he ask for the release himself. If he's healthy it seems like he could have been helpful to the team this season. i i
  5. Well, a healthy roster would help immensely. I'm also wondering when Correa is going to snap out the doldrums and show us the player he's been in the past. I'm an optimist by nature too, but I'm starting to have real doubts about this team's ability to contend this season. I don't see any easy fixes other than sustainable top performance and health. But can this team achieve that?
  6. Essentially, a lot of Lee’s contact lately has been falling into holes, landing just out of the reach of defenders, or squeaking through the infield. Those hits count the same in the box score, but things usually even out over time. Pitchers and defenses will adjust, and those seeing-eye grounders may turn into outs in the weeks ahead. Another concern is Lee’s near-total lack of walks since the calendar turned to June. Hmm ... I don't watch entire games, but what I see/read of Lee's performances lately lines up with that analysis. Most of the hits do seem "just out of reach" of the fielders. But the biggest red flag for me is the lack of walks. That needs to change. Other than that, it's still a hopeful recent stretch for Lee, As others have already said, he's still young and learning the pro game. Let's hope for good days ahead.
  7. I'll pass on this idea. We have plenty of "big bats" on the team or in our system; we just need to find a way for them to produce better or more consistently. Sure, another big bat would look good in the lineup as it stands now, but no way do I want to trade ANY of our best prospects for a player that may not even make a difference in our playoff quest.
  8. On a somewhat positive note, as mentioned in the main article, Brooks Lee now has a 15 game hitting streak going, and he's shown a bit of power during this time too. It's an encouraging stretch for a player I was starting to have my doubts about. Not having seen any complete games, how does he look in the field this season?
  9. You are right; the short AAA stint probably wasn't enough time for a proper reset, and as yesterday's woeful start shows, he will still need more tweaks or something to regain both his confidence and effectiveness.
  10. Good question. Or maybe an easy question at this point. I was willing to be patient, hoping his "stuff" would translate into more outs and less runs scored. But obviously that isn't happening, and seems to be getting worse after signs of maybe turning it around. Not sure if there is a viable trade market for him, but we should try. Adams should have at least been given a chance to pitch this past week.
  11. Another baffling move, Why do they call up these players, never use them, and then send them back down again just as quickly? I realize it's all part of "roster construction" but it's maddening!
  12. With the constant issue of injuries, we probably can't count on any sort of certainty this season!
  13. Not much to add to the already well-written posts, but I liked this article a lot. I've been very impressed by what Diaw has done thus far and obviously hope it's just the beginning of better results. DocBauer was also right on about Sabato. He's like a different player all of a sudden. For real or not?
  14. Yes, it seems like Ryan struggled more than usual and threw a lot of pitches, but as you suggested, he finds a way to keep the Twins in the game.
  15. Speaking of walks, according to what I read on ESPN today, this is what our pitchers have done: The Twins have walked 164 batters — fewest in the majors
  16. My first pick would be Joe Ryan. But Duran is deserving also. But who knows what can happen in the next month.
  17. Another fun look at Twins history. Thank you! Laudner led all of professional baseball with 44 home runs in 1981, including a Southern League record 42 at Double-A Orlando. I was living in Orlando and going to some of those AA Twins games when Laudner was launching all those homers. Fun times! Sadly, he never replicated those power numbers in the majors, but he still had a pretty good career.
  18. I continue to be perplexed by some of these "advanced" stats and sabermetrics. All these numbers make my head spin! But I also appreciate the fact that someone has looked into this stuff and tried to make sense of it ... so thank you! It DOES seem as though Correa is "trending in the right direction" as you noted. That would be a huge boost for the team if he keeps putting up the recent numbers he's been producing. As stated, having both a Buxton and Correa in a healthy and productive mode will certainly benefit the Twins in the coming months.
  19. As others have said, this information if very informative and useful. I know next to nothing about the players in this draft, so the background and details are very helpful. I honestly don't have any big preferences, based on what I've read, although I'm always keen to draft quality pitchers, even the risky high school arms.
  20. Another very interesting roundup! I love reading these! Very satisfying to see excellent pitching from Prielipp and Hill. Plus DeBarge and Schobel keep hitting. Keep the momentum going! And now we have the son of Troy Percival in our system? Hmm ... we may soon be the home of the castoff sons of ex-MLB All-Stars (we had Dereck Rodriguez and now Clemens ... who is next?)
  21. A surprising but interesting and potentially advantageous move by the front office in calling up Adams. I haven't been paying much attention to his stats, but based on his recent performance it appears that he's earned the promotion. Obviously, we are all wishing and hoping for some positive results! Welcome to the show, Travis!
  22. I think the bats will come around, barring any more bizarre injuries. But yeah, adding another effective lefty to the bullpen would be a good move.
  23. Good effort by Zebby to get the win, even as noted, without his best stuff. But it's games like this where he still finds a way to get the outs, and that should help him deal with future adversity.
