  1. I have no idea how the Twins won this game, but I won't complain! Nice to see Vasquez get some clutch hits.
  2. And about a dozen or more mis-fires in past decade or so. For every Twins "win" in these deadline trades, seems like we lose twice as much.
  3. That's my philosophy too. We struggled for too many years to find quality starting pitchers, I don't think this is the time to trade them away, even as LastOnePicked noted about Ryan's value being very high. Sure, but I still think we are better off keeping him. The relief pitchers are another matter, Duran and Jax are high quality arms, but I think we COULD afford to trade one of them, at least if we are getting fair value in return.
  4. Another great roundup, Seth. Plenty of encouraging performances from the likes of Prielipp, Keaschall, Lewis, Culpepper, Jenkins, Winokur, and Gonzalez. Exciting to have so many quality prospects for a change!
  5. The most bizarre aspect of Clemens' recent performance: he has hit triples in each of the past two games!
  6. I was just going to mention Pablo, wondering why he was omitted from the article. Having him back in the rotation should be a big plus.
  7. Great article. Niekro was a useful player that year, and as others have noted, that "emery board" incident was a classic! One for the ages indeed. Sadly, he passed away much too soon , but overall he had a very good career.
  8. Don't even think about trading Joe Ryan. Anyone else on the current roster, other than Buxton, take the best offer.
  9. Sure, I understand the financial advantages, and that is the stark reality in these times, but I strongly dislike this sort of commercial sponsorship. I'm just an old school fan this misses the days when stadiums weren't all named after corporations.
  10. And in yesterday's game, he started, pitched 4 innings, gave up 2 hits and no runs. What went wrong with his time with us? Granted, he looked awful during his short time with the Twins, but Atlanta seems to have unlocked his potential.
  11. He is one of six players in major league history to lead their league in hits five times, along with Ty Cobb, Stan Musial, Pete Rose, Tony Gwynn, and Ichiro. Great stat about the amazing Tony Oliva. One of my all-time favorite Twins players. Happy Birthday Tony! My most memorable memory was actually meeting Tony at a spring training game in Orlando back in the late 1960s. I was just a kid and obviously thrilled beyond belief. All I can remember is his smile. Also a great mention of "Twins catching prospect Justin Morneau." I had forgotten about his catching days. If it only wasn't for that darn kid Joe Mauer.
  12. Is Tonkin still on a rehab assignment, or is he in AAA to stay? Not that it much matters at this point, but just wondering.
  13. Very difficult to say what the Twins will do at this point. Obviously, having healthy and productive players like Lopez and Ober, or even Luke and Zebby back in the lineup will be a big help. But so would ten straight wins out of the break. Good things could happen, or the team could look lackluster and weary. I'm not entirely giving up hope, but my optimism is flagging.
  14. And we wonder why this one didn't make headlines on ESPN!
  15. Agreed, As ridiculous at this acquisition looks on the surface, why not take a chance? At this juncture, the Twins might as well take some chances on these types of players, and maybe just maybe, as slim a chance as it might be, they could end up finding a useful player. As long as he's not blocking any MLB-ready prospects, it's worth a look.
  16. Bottom line: lots of room for improvement with this bunch. But is it realistic to expect that better performances will happen in the second half?
  17. an update on the sad tale of Dan Serafini: https://www.yahoo.com/news/dan-serafini-found-guilty-murder-005626111.html
  18. I looked at the list of the Twins' picks in the first 20 rounds and the most obvious thing was: no catchers picked at all. I realize the philosophy, and perhaps the best strategy, is to pick the best athletes, but it seems strange that they didn't try to pick one catching prospect. Were the pickings that slim? That said, good to see a few more college pitchers being selected. The more arms the better.
  19. Another frustrating season for Lewis, but he HAS shown signs of life the past week or so. Put me in the "ride it out" camp. He's still young and as others have already said, the Twins would be selling low on his current value if they try and trade him, so the best move is to just be patient. The talent is obviously there, and I still think he had the right mindset to succeed. If he can overcome these constant injuries then we could truly have a star on our hands.
