  1. I'm a bit puzzled by this sort of thinking too,. Sure, if you think the Twins are truly in some sort of rebuild mode, that makes some sense. But to me it makes more sense to keep ace pitchers like Lopez and Ryan, rebuild the bullpen, and be ready for another playoff run in another year or two. We still have enough good pieces in play, and prospects ready to contribute, that it's not beyond the realm of possibility. Then again, the potential sale of the team puts any sort of off-season strategy into limbo.
  2. As far as potential bullpen arms, what about SWR? He can't seem to get over the 5 innings hump, so is the bullpen a better place to use him? I honestly have no strong opinion, but what do others think?
  3. I'm very skeptical about an imminent sale of the Twins.
  4. I think he's actually pitched 4 innings a few times too! But yeah, I think he's ready for bullpen duty NOW. Then again, I also like his potential as a starter. But why not bring him up and try him in the bullpen first, seeing as how he's on an innings limit? Yeah, yeah, the old service time issues pop up, but Prielipp is already 24 and I think we need to take advantage of his arm as soon as possible.
  5. Pereda looks like he COULD be a help next season. You are right; he seems to have more offense than Vasquez. Besides him, most of the promising catchers in our system are still a year or two or three years away. I can't see the Twins spending much or any money on a free agent catcher next season.
  6. EXCLUSIVE: The selling of the Minnesota Twins could be weeks away, a source told FOS. This all sounds like total B.S. Who are these mysterious buyers that are going to save our team? My feeling is that any sale could be months, or even years away. I'm usually an optimist by nature, but selling this team anytime soon seems like a pipe dream.
  7. I'd love to see more youth next season, especially like prospects such as Prielipp and Gonzalez. Lewis seems to have lost his mojo this season, but with that knuckleball, maybe he can still show us something. But time is running out for him.
  8. Indeed he would. I understood the concern about his poor production, but he's stayed healthy all season and seems to have the respect of the pitching staff. I think we could do a lot worse if we looked for a replacement. Hopefully, we DO find a young and more productive backup, but right now I can't see who that will be.
  9. Well, that's my question. If they have someone to replace Vasquez, who will it be?
  10. Most everyone assumes that Vasquez won't be back, and he is in the last year of his contract if I'm not mistaken. But if he leaves, what do we do for a backup catcher? Even with this flurry of recent trades and waiver pickups, I don't really see anyone ready to step up and replace Vasquez.
  11. The elephant in the room is the sale of the team. Will we have the same ownership in February or is there a chance we actually get new owners by then? My guess is that until the team is sold we are not going to see any/many more major transactions or free agent signings, other than a few minor pieces added. But I agree with the premise of the article; this flurry of trades the Twins made last week does not signal a complete teardown is at play. But ... things can change.
  12. Never heard of the guy, but welcome to the club! No doubt he will be joining a long line of retreads and castoffs, but the Twins might as well try some of these pitchers and see if they have enough to warrant a longer stay with the club. Audition time has begun!
  13. I like the potential of all those pitchers, especially Bradley. But stringer bell is right; with so many "starters" now on the roster, a few of these guys will need to move to the bullpen or be trade bait.
  14. Very true, which is why it's so disappointing to see Julien and Miranda flailing. I think the talent WAS there, but then it disappeared? Can we blame that all on Twins coaches or like of development? I honestly don't know. But I still have hope that Martin can stay healthy, get some real playing time and show us if he's for real or not.
  15. Very helpful roundup, Cody. Many thanks for that. I'm still trying to get me head around all these trades and trying to figure out where some of the new players even play on the field. Is anyone else dizzy? But after reading these reports I feel much more optimistic about some of these new players than I did last week. Hopefully, we can get pitchers like Abel and Bradley called up soon for a better look.
  16. We may need a new ownership group before any more major/helpful signings happen. I'm a bit pessimistic that will happen before the start of next season, but I hope to be surprised.
  17. After that one great game last week, Brooks is sliding back down again into the canyons of mediocrity. Can we still hope for that "great, natural hitter" that we drafted?
  18. So the Twins ARE able to lay down bunts! Good on Clemens! That's a skill he must have learned on one of his other teams! As others have said in this thread, Clemens has turned out to be a very handy player; one that hustles, makes good plays and gets clutch hits. Not an all-star, but I think he's a keeper. The fact that we claimed him and he's produced better than expected has turned into a sort of happy accident. Maybe we can find a few more players like that in the near future.
  19. Great post. Let everyone play ... and play some more. Bring some more players up, and send the laggards down. We want to see some production!
  20. The only trade that truly annoyed me was the Varland trade (okay, I suppose France was part of that package too, but still). I would have also preferred to have kept Jax to fortify the bullpen, but I really like the fact that we got Taj Bradley from the Rays. I think he will end up being a very good starter if he develops more consistently. He's shown flashes of excellence the past two seasons, so don't sleep on his potential. As for the rest of the players/prospects that we received there seem to be a handful of interesting players that could end up being helpful to us, but most of these acquisitions don't seem exciting at all. All that said, I don't think we gutted our team too badly. Other than the dearth of good arms in the bullpen, I think we will still end up being competitive next season.
  21. I think that's true. We were the fallback plan. Certainly Minnesota was not on his list of preferred destinations. Oh well, it was interesting for a while, now time to turn the page.
  22. What went wrong? Well, he couldn't stay healthy for extended periods of time for one thing. And obviously his numbers were down overall too. Sure, there were some positives with having Correa on the team, but frankly I'm relieved that he's gone and that we shed (most) of that albatross of a contract. Give some of these hot-shot prospects a shot at shortstop now, and I'm talking about someone other than Brooks Lee. So far he's been a huge disappointment.
  23. Cedar Rapids placed infielder Rayne Doncon on the temporary inactive list. Well, it's not the "Development List" but what has made him inactive? I know he hasn't been playing that well this season, but I hope he comes back.
