  1. Back to the original post, very interesting article about Fitzgerald and his desire to improve bat speed and production. I wish more players took the time to look into stuff like that and try to back improvements. Literally, every little bit helps.
  2. Very informative first-hand report! Very pleased that Raya was looking so good. You are probably right about Lopez: his next start should be back with the Twins.
  3. Yep, another strangely awful performance from our starting pitcher. When was the last time we had a quality start? Maybe it's time to just have all bullpen games. Oh, wait a minute, I almost forgot ... our bullpen is not our bullpen any longer.
  4. Langenberg looking very good lately. but all of a sudden who is this Garrett Horn? Wow! Sure, he's only at Cedar Rapids now, but those are eye-popping stats!
  5. I didn't laugh out loud ... but I had a pretty big grin on my face. Good stuff!
  6. First base DOES look like another unstable position heading into next year. I hate the idea of just putting players there that have failed at other positions. But other than signing another free agent in the vein of Santana or France, we don't have many options. And as for backup catcher .... we are taking applications.
  7. Even though he was a "failed starter" (joining Duran and a long list of others), Varland had turned into an above average bullpen arm. I was assuming that after the trades of Duran and Jax that we would be our new closer. Not to be. So, I'm not so sure he is that easily replaced. That said, I'm happy with the return we got for him, although the jury is still out on both of those players.
  8. I've been wondering about the weird Margot pop-up video too. Over a year and still running!
  9. Just having runners in scoring position is progress for this team!
  10. I'm still a believer that the Twins CAN compete next season too, but that comes with conditions and worries. Having the same ownership and front office is NOT an encouraging thought, and until we have some TRUE plan that they are going to spend money on free agents or change the manager and coaching staff (yeah, I know, VERY unlikely to happen), I don't have much faith we will be more than a .500 team at the very best. I believe in many of our prospects, but if they can't out-perform what we've seen from the likes of Lewis, Lee, Larnach and company this season, then I think it's time for a REAL rebuild.
  11. Spot on. Other than unnecessarily decimating our bullpen (some of those arms were fine to deal, but I still can't understand the Varland trade) our basic core remains. I don't even think that losing Correa was any big loss. But as you noted, it remains an underperforming bunch. Is it lack of proper development, as some have suggested, or are these guys just plain mediocre and won't ever get better? But yes, bring up as many prospects as we can this month and in September. I'm not writing this team off yet, but it needs a serious change of attitude and performance. I'd love to get a new manager and GM (what can you say about ownership at this point?) but that's unlikely to happen anytime soon, so we just have to roll with the prospects and hope that a few of these trade pieces turn into something productive.
  12. Add Lee and even Miranda to that list too. Something is just not clicking with these guys when they hit MLB. A few flashes of excellence and they quickly descend into sustained mediocrity.
  13. Another depressing series of games, but I'm not giving up on either Abel or Bradley yet. They both have shown talent in the minors and/or the majors (Bradley had some great starts with Tampa Bay), so this is just another period where we need to let them pitch, learn from their mistakes, and hope, really hope that it clicks.
  14. I would think that Larnach, Julien and Martin are the three biggest question marks. Will any of them even be with the Twins once April rolls around?
  15. I'm with you. I was really hoping that at least his bat would come around, but he just hasn't clicked in any area yet.
  16. I agree with you and glunn; keep Abel in the rotation and give him regular starts the rest of this season. Like this game, he may take his lumps, but the talent seems to be there and we need to be patient and hope that he becomes more effective. As for Hatch, he's been a pleasant surprise thus far. An innings eater that doesn't give up many runs! I'll take it.
  17. Wow, no I had not checked his numbers lately. Ugh. You are correct. Not an encouraging performance at all.
  18. That's the catch. IF by any slim chance they want or are able to spend money on free agents, based on the recent Twins history, I can't see us as an attractive team to play for.
  19. Yeah, his decline this season mystifies me. I wouldn't give up on him yet either. Like you said, somewhere in there, a great baseball player is ready to emerge. But what will it take to make that happen?
  20. Good point. The Chisox weren't eligible for top 10 pick last season, because they had one the previous season, so I assume that applies to the Rockies and Nationals this time around.
  21. Yes, the A's have been playing well lately. They have the makings of a good team. No shame to lose games to them ... but then again, could we at least put some men on base and put up a fight?
  22. I still can't see both pitchers being traded during the off-season either. But for either pitcher, the return needs to be MUCH better than the ones we received last month. Of course, the quality we are offering is a lot higher too, but I'm tired of just trading for prospects who may or may not even stick. If we trade a top of the line starter, then we absolutely need some players who can contribute immediately.
  23. I think that sums it up nicely. Keep both pitchers and we at least have a chance of competing next season, provided that our bats come around and we can cobble together a decent bullpen, But if we trade those starters, then we are looking at a multi-year rebuild for sure.
  24. I hope they bring up both Bradley and Abel to see what they learned/improved on in AAA. Fedko definitely deserves a look and McCusker also warrants more than a handful of at-bats to see if he can perform on the big stage or not. Sabato? Hmm ... not sure about that one, but he's earned a look too. Other than that, two catchers is enough for the rest of the season.
