Good point, but I'm guessing that because he was already at 99 pitches, Rocco decided that was enough for one day. But yeah, Zebby had an impressive outing overall except for those 2-out homers. He's starting to look more comfortable in the majors, but it's still early days for him.

I agree with that optimism. Even after this flurry of trades, the Twins CAN still contend next season. We aren't as far away as some seem to think. But the bullpen DOES need a makeover sooner than later.

Former Twins. Where are They Now? 2025 Edition
Doctor Wu replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Another win for Joey Wentz starting for Atlanta yesterday. He pitched 5.1 innings, giving up 1 run and 4 hits, but also walking 3 batters. Not lights out, but he's pitching much better for the Braves this past month. If memory serves, he was horrible during his brief stint with the Twins. Baseball is such a weird game.- 339 replies

Ryan Pressly reunion possible?
Doctor Wu replied to Otto von Ballpark's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Hmm.... been over a week and no team has picked him up yet? Considering his admirable track record, that is puzzling. Are there arms problems or something else preventing someone from signing him? -
Yep, we are not on anyone's national radar, disappointing to us or not. And frankly, considering our budget limitations, we have done pretty well over the past decade or so. Sure, we can't get over that Yankees curse, but it's not all doom and misery. I'm still a Twins fan and remain (somewhat) optimistic about the future.

He was looking great earlier this season, but you are right; this recent dip is a cause for concern.

Five Ways the Twins Can Salvage 2025
Doctor Wu replied to Eric Blonigen's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I want to see Abel and Bradley at Target Field this season soon, and I assume we will at some point. But what's happening with Lopez? Not that he needs to rush back at this point, but he's been on the IL longer than I expected. -
Week in Review: Expectations Gone, Energy Unlocked
Doctor Wu replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The disgraceful trade of Carlos Correa ... So now it's disgraceful?! Sure, it was a glorified salary dump, but I still think the Twins are better off now. Hey, Carlos was a solid player (when not injured), maybe even a good influence on our younger players, but it's time we gave those younger players a shot and let Carlos be Carlos elsewhere ... and playing third base as he's now doing.- 67 replies

Another bunting debacle for the Twins. Absolutely brutal. Yeah, Gaspar would seem to be on his last legs, but as you noted, having a third-string catcher has some value at this juncture.

It's only a few games, and I'm not watching the whole game, but I get the sense of good chemistry too. Whatever is happening, it's working well lately.

Good points. And as the article stated: I suppose the biggest thing is it’s August and Connor Prielipp is still pitching. That alone is huge. He's healthy and pitching more innings. I still have faith that he will be able to contribute in the majors very soon.

Those rally-ending double-play balls certainly DID become a problem!

I'd love to see that. Brooks Lee is okay at shortstop, but thus far his hitting has been a huge disappointment. Can he adjust and improve? You would certainly hope so, but overall he just doesn't excite me or fill me with hope. But Culpepper needs to be in AAA now and then we will see if he is ready to take the next step. But I agree with what the article said: it was time to move on from Correa. Very good player and I'd like to think he was a good influence on players like Lee and Lewis, but we have too many good young players that will be able to handle that position soon, so I think moving Correa may have been the best trade of the whole bunch, even though it was basically a salary dump. I like the clean slate.

Too many men left on base and not a single extra-base hit. Heck, what happened to our "new" strategy of stolen bases and bunts? We might have been able to manufacture a single run, but we still would have lost the game. Oh well, at least Ober looked better. But as others have noted, the whole lineup failed to provide any clutch hitting when needed. Not encouraging.

5 Reasons to Keep Watching the Twins
Doctor Wu replied to Alex Boxwell's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If you are a fan, you remain a fan through thick and thin. Frankly, I am enjoying this "new look" team already. There will be some ugly moments and some beautiful moments, but it's still baseball. I need it.- 48 replies

I liked Varland a lot and this trade was the one that bothered me the most. That said, two years from now we might look back and say it was the best trade we made at the deadline. No way to tell at this point, but the two players we got seem to have plenty of potential. In any case, I don't feel as angry now as I did last week. Sure, it's heartless to trade away a homegrown player like Varland, especially one that performed well and also seemed very pleasant and fan-friendly. But baseball is a ruthless business.

A great thing indeed! I'm guessing they may keep Bradley down for another start or two, but he should be pitching at Target Field sometime very soon.

Minnesota Twins Back to Selling Hope
Doctor Wu replied to Nate Palmer's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Not having a consistent lineup MIGHT be part of the problem. I'm no analyst, so I can't pinpoint the main problems. But whatever the case, the Twins were not winning enough this season, so frankly I'm very happy about this sell-off, re-set, or whatever you want to call it. Bring up some prospects, try some new players. I'm looking forward to seeing new players on the field and on the mound. We have a long way to go obviously, but I have to say the I really do feel some hope for this team. I'll be following the Twins no matter what happens.- 36 replies
