    Sadly, I'm not surprised whatsoever. With the current state of our bullpen it will be miraculous if we can hold onto any late inning leads. Of course, this wasn't that sort of game at all.

    plus the fact that the Angels scored almost all of their runs with two outs. Our pitchers just can't get it done.

    I agree, Thanks to the writers for at least trying to make some sense of these depressing games. Nice to see Fitzgerald pitch a clean inning, but as another poster asked, with the expanded rosters. why was he even sent out there in the first place?

    I think that's an accurate assessment. Gray never seemed content as a Twin and I'm sure he didn't hesitate one bit when a better offer came around. Sure, he was a good pitcher for us. I have no idea if he was such a positive or influential voice in the clubhouse, as Ryan stated, but I really don't think losing Gray suddenly caused the Twins to descend into some sort of downward spiral. Too many other factors contributed to that, and losing Sonny Gray would not be high on the list of regrets.

    I'm happy that Martin has been hitting better since his callup, and his OBP is very impressive. But I'm still not convinced that he has earned a starter's role or permanent place on the team. Let's see how he is doing a month from now and re-visit the question. But one that that puzzles me is seeing many people asking the Twins to trade Larnach and/or Wallner. I have no problem with that concept, but honestly how many teams will actually want to trade for either player and give us anything remotely of quality in return?

    Woods-Richardson usually keeps us in the games but he can't seem to get over that 5 inning hump, and I can't blame that all on Rocco. What's the consensus on SWR going forward? Will the Twins remain patient and keep him in the starting rotation next season, or might he become better utilized in the bullpen?

    Fair enough, but I'd still include any player that was in the organization for even a limited amount of time.

    Abel has been awful so far since he's pitched for the Twins, but is sending back down to AAA this late in the season an answer or even helpful? Hey, maybe the miracle workers in St. Paul can fix what ails him, but it seems to me like they could just as easily do that with more experience in the majors.

    Personally, this recent emphasis on bat speed is hard to get my head around. Overrated, another meaningless stat, or just not explained well to us older fans? I'm still bewildered.

    That idea makes a lot of sense. Use what we have in-house and do it anyway that works. Some of these pitchers will most likely end up in the bullpen at some point in the near future, so why not get them started now.

    Thanks, Matthew. Another fascinating article with tons of insight and information and stats. I especially liked the way that Martin talked about his approach to hitting. Not only the swing and bat speed, but things like the way that they stand in the batter's box and the type of stride they take: stuff I'd never thought much about before but found very informative. Overall, very educational and helpful for an old-timer like me. I'm hoping that both Martin and Keaschall will become mainstays in the Twins lineup. We need MORE guys like this they can hit, get on base, and score runs. That's what it's all about, right?

    Good article, Cody, I have faith that Taj Bradley will become a solid if not outstanding starting pitcher. One thing that stumped me in the article was when Bradley referred to remaining or keeping "athletic." What is he referring to exactly? In the context of the article it seems to be referring to release points or how he holds the ball, but I'm not sure.

    I feel like so much is made of Martin's poor defense at every position he plays that we forget what he actually contributes offensively. I agree with what Hans wrote above. Martin may end up being a sneaky-good offensive force if he stays in the lineup. But at which position does he ultimately play? Or, as Hans suggested, might the Twins just try him as a DH? It's nice having a good baserunner with speed on the team.

    The consensus seems to be that because Tait is only in single A that he is still several years away from being on the team. But just from reading about him and seeing recent clips, he seems like he could be a fast riser and end up at Target Field sooner than some might think. I don't see that happening next season, but I think he could be end by 2027. At least I HOPE that's the case. He seems like the real deal.

    Sadly, I think that may be the bottom line. Profit over performance.

    If they trade either one of those pitchers, so you really think they will want more pitchers or some MLB-ready batters? Seems like we need better fielders AND better hitters more than pitchers at this point.
