  1. Our pal Joey Gallo went 0-3 yesterday and is not batting a robust .155 for the season with the Nationals, Methinks this is the end of the line for him. Speaking of endings, any signs of Eddie Rosario after his latest release?
  2. Jorge Alcalá threw two scoreless innings to seal the victory after bleaching his hair. The rest of the team should take note. This is the obvious new key to success for the rest of the season.
  3. If what you said is correct, I wonder why it's not against the rules. Or is just one of those "unwritten" rules that baseball has so many of already?
  4. Sadly, you may be right. I mean, we are all hoping for that extra something that DOES change things and get us winning again. I'm hopeful that it will happen, but realistic enough to doubt that it will.
  5. Not sure if we can even trust Varland in the bullpen at this point.
  6. Very good article and a fun trip down memory lane! I had totally forgotten that the Twins had received Gagne in that trade for Smalley. I used to see the Twins play in spring training in Orlando every year and Smalley was always one of the most popular players and autograph requests. Very well loved.
  7. Then, too, there's the fact that the Minnesota bullpen hasn't turned out to be as deep as we all hoped. Not as deep?! Ha! I remember back in late March and early April when so many people were hailing our bullpen as one of the best in baseball! Okay, it's still a pretty good bullpen overall, but there are some obvious holes and it's going to stay that way until next season. Unless Kyle Farmer turns out to be that extra bullpen arm we were searching for. Bullpen issues aside, this team needs some sort of spark or energy boost, something to get the batters motivated and productive and putting men on base again. In a fairy tale world the return of Buxton and Correa would have initiated a new winning streak ... but still waiting for that to materialize.
  8. Good article, and as another person noted, a helpful look at the less obvious stats that show he still has what it takes to close games. And yet ... I'm still not fully confident when he takes the mound lately. I only hope that he DOES have a chance to shine in the post-season. Let's make those playoffs first!
  9. I'm disappointed that Nowlin had such a rough AAA debut. Still some work to do, but hoping he can click at this higher level by next season.
  10. On the overall subject of managers, I haven't dived into the nitty gritty research yet, but it sure seems that compared to other MLB teams, the Twins have had fewer managers in the past 60 years. Not sure if that is a good thing or not, but our turnover seems a lot less than other teams.
  11. Well, he was a high draft pick, and much hyped as a "natural" hitter, and he was doing fairly well in his brief minor league career, so yeah, expectations were/are very high. He's a rookie and there will certainly be growing pains, but I'm still not sold on him as becoming some sort of perennial all-star. Maybe it will all click soon and he becomes an important part of the team, or maybe he will wash out in less than a decade. Sure it's a cliche, but time will tell.
  12. Very cool to see Nowlin promoted. He could still turn out to be an MLB player yet!
  13. Only three players? Seems to me that there could be a few more with something to prove, or show they are either healthy and/or can play like they are expected to; players such as Duran, Thielbar, Margot, and the long-missing Correa. Even Farmer, who has played very well the past two weeks, would seem to still need to prove himself to many fans.
  14. A sudden sad ending to a potentially promising career. But I have no sympathy for scumbag cheaters --- and doing it to your own team of all crazy things --- so good riddance! I hope he never gets a job in professional baseball again.
  15. Refsnyder hit 2 homers in that game, Having himself a very nice season in Boston.
  16. I hope this is one of those cases of a young player learning to play in the majors, having his ups and downs, and us fans being patient, but lately Brooks Lee just looks overmatched.
  17. Sausage, avocado. pepperoni, even a few crunchy guavas ... whatever it takes to get this team healthy and productive again is fine by me!
  18. This is all very confusing. I saw that Margot was coming back, and they were sending Hellman back down, but keeping Keirsey, so I assumed that Buxton's return was delayed once again. Hmm. I just hope he's close to full strength, or even the 90% that was talked about. This lineup needs some sort of energy, so I hope he has it.
  19. Duran in the 9th is looking scary lately. What's the consensus on why he's giving up so many hits and runs ?
  20. It's been a very frustrating season, but I'm not fully onboard the anti-Rocco wagon. Plenty of other problems besides his sometimes questionable decisions. Compared to other MLB teams, the Twins seem to have had much less turnover in the role of manager. Thinking back a few decades, I recall Bill Rigney. I think he won the division one year, but his tenure didn't last too long.
  21. Man, we could sure use a Morgana appearance this season ... even if she is about 90 years old by now!
  22. Speaking of coaches, it seem like Watkins doesn't understand the speed, or lack thereof, of various Twins players. This month, in almost every other game, I see him is waving a runner to round third and head home, only to have the Twins runner easily nailed. Something is wrong.
  23. Looking for the REAL Royce Lewis. Where has he gone? Man, I hope he snaps out of this slump ASAP! Along with another half-dozen betters that can't seem to put the ball in play.
  24. Yes, poor Rocco decisions aside, we need to put more runs across the plate to win these games.
  25. Thanks for the report. Prielipp looking very good again. Wow! Hopefully, he stays healthy and he will be allowed longer innings pitched next season. Some good stats, plus triples by Culpepper and DeBarge. Encouraging play by the young prospects!
