  1. Yeah, I don't think Margot's best position is CF at all, but he can play there if needed. Hopefully, his bat comes around and his versatility is as good as it's been in the past, and he ends up being a valuable addition to the team.
  2. An exciting bunch of prospects. With some patience and steady development, I hope we will see several of these players playing important roles with the Twins at some point in the near future.
  3. With these injuries, plus his performance so far in ST, I think Alcala makes the roster. Plus, Duarte has looked pretty good in his outings, and he can pitch a couple of innings if needed. Having Duran on the IL obviously hurts the team, but hopefully this current plethora of arms we will be enough to hold the fort.
  4. I honestly didn't expect that the Twins would try and sign any of the better free agent pitchers, but I sure was hoping that they would swing a trade for a high-quality arm. Not sure if that was realistic either, or maybe they tried and couldn't find a deal to their liking, but we still need another veteran arm in the rotation, at least one that doesn't promise to spend a lot of time on the IL. I have high hopes for several of our young pitchers, but I think it's very wishful thinking that another one or two will step up this season and propel us to the playoffs. Sure, it's possible that someone like Varland, Raya, or SWR will look like an All-Star candidate when July rolls around, but I'm not that optimistic it will happen.
  5. Good observation about Lopez. I like the way he thinks and approaches the art of pitching, so I'm not too terribly concerned about him giving up runs in spring training. If he's working on various pitches and strategy in these ST games, hopefully that translates to a stronger regular season.
  6. No surprises with these cuts, but it was good to see Miranda healthy and hitting better in spring training. I hope he lights it up in AAA and can come back up and help the big boys sooner than later. Larnach remains the odd man out. Not sure if he really has a future with the Twins at this point.
  7. The versatile Niko Goodrum, Michael Helman, Anthony Prato, and Brooks Lee remain in big-league camp as well. Goodrum is indeed versatile, but I can't see a place for him on this team, even if injuries happen all of a sudden. What sort of contract did he sign? Was it a standard minor league deal, or does he have some sort of opt out?
  8. I'm certainly not concerned with the team's won-loss record in spring training, but a few of the individual performances certainly do make me wonder if it's just spring tweaks or something more amiss. Still, I would be nice to see Lopez have a clean outing, or Topa show something in the bullpen, or Wallner start to hit.
  9. I didn't realize that Wallner was a perpetually slow starter in regards to his performance each year. Man, he's had an awful spring so far, so I sure hope he gets in the groove very soon!
  10. the Twins were freakishly lucky with the health of their two catchers last year. I doubt we'll be so lucky this year, so good to have Camargo ready and willing at AAA. I also expect some regression from Jeffers at the plate, but hopefully it's not too steep a drop. Then again, maybe both Jeffers and Vasquez prove to be iron men and help to propel us to to another World Series. Gotta keep hoping!
  11. I'm in total agreement with most everyone else: this new idea for a game to showcase the minor league prospects is a fabulous idea. Hopefully, MLB runs with it and keeps this an annual event and does more promotion for the game, maybe even more than a single game if that's realistic. For us diehard fans, this was sheer pleasure!
  12. Yes, a pretty good spring for Miranda so far, but as others have stated, he is most likely slated for AAA to start the season, and hopefully the hits continue to fall, and the Twins will either call him up in a month or two (depending on who else ends up on the IL), or possibly trade him to a team like Oakland that is willing to take a chance on his power. As MikeLink suggested, he could end up getting playing time for another team and put up numbers like Rooker, Steer or Raley. But hey, it's baseball and the fun part is not knowing what happens next.
  13. The Braves ended up signing Adam Duvall, so I suppose that scuttered any plans to keep Luplow on the team.
  14. I've been encouraged by everything I've read about Zebby Matthews, in addition to his strong season last year. And thank you to the editors for identifying which player was in the photo! Much appreciated!
  15. Another article with a mysterious, uncredited photo. I assume it's Miranda ... or is it Kiriloff? It certainly ain't Alcala, unless the Twins plan on using him as a pinch-hitter.
  16. I'm still optimistic about Woods-Richardson too,, and even though it's the usual small sample size, he's looked good so far in spring training, and supposedly his fastball is faster this year too.
  17. Celestino also having a good spring so far with the Pirates, hitting at a .435 clip. Meanwhile, with the A's, Rooker is struggling to reach the Mendoza line. Yeah, this is just spring training but it's fun to follow the progress, or lack thereof, of all the ex-Twins.
  18. We are finally going to see Charlee Soto pitch?!
  19. I understand the doubts about Paddack and his ability to pitch many innings this year, especially coming back from TJ surgery. But that's 2 years in the past now, and I think he'll be more durable than expected this year, so I wouldn't call it "irrational" to expect that he actually proves the doubters wrong.
  20. I'm happy we kept both players too. We need the experience and depth at catcher, and I really like and value Farmer's versatility and grit. That said, I don't expect we will see either player with the Twins a year for now. But for the time being, I'm happy to have them on the team and I feel like we'll appreciate them both more as the year progresses.
  21. You almost had me doing a double take there ... at first I assumed you were talking about his age!
  22. He certainly seems like a long shot to make the team, at least to start the year, but never say never. If the "Pablo factor" helps and the coaches can help him add a new pitch, maybe he can turn his career around. I love long shots like this, so I wish him lots and lots of luck!
  23. Thanks for that. I had assumed it was some sort of nickname, only to realize that's his real name!
  24. I realize that fans love to give players cute nicknames, and I'm a bit slow on the take, but who the hell is Doncon?
