  1. Very good article. All the research and stats are appreciated! I have to admit that although the name rang a bell, I couldn't have told you anything about Olivar previously. Good stuff!
  2. I agree. I don't think the trade makes us worse at all. Polanco was a very good player --- when he was healthy. But age and injury concerns, combined with the need to give our younger players and prospects more playing time made him expendable. Plus, we got a good bullpen piece and a veteran pitcher who MAY shore up the starting rotation. The young prospects obviously won't factor in the mix this season, but I think we still improved the team with this trade.
  3. That would be great if that happens, and the odds are that it WILL work for both teams. I certainly with Polanco good luck in Seattle.
  4. I like the trade too. I understand the love for Polanco, but he was entering the last year of his contract, getting older with those lingering injury concerns, so I'm thrilled we got as much for him as we did. No, DeSclafani is not the answer to strengthen our starting rotation, but he's a depth piece and hey, maybe he can regain his 2021 magic. Not sure about the late-blooming relief pitcher, but he appears to be a good addition. The biggest bonus for me is the young outfield prospect. That definitely helps tilt this one in favor of the Twins. I only hope we aren't finished dealing. We still need that missing piece in the starting rotation.
  5. I'm sipping some of that kool-aid today too! Sure, I'm skeptical, especially considering Buxton's injury history and lack of durability over the years, but I'm an optimist at heart and am hoping he is healthy and good to go this year.
  6. And as much as I dislike "What's His Name" I'd take a chance on him too. If that guy still has the pitching skills that he had a few years ago, I wouldn't flinch about getting him on the team. If all we want on the pitching staff are morally upright citizens, we may never win another pennant.
  7. Clevinger is not ideal, but at this point I don't think we can be too picky about personality issues. We need some good arms and I think he still qualifies on that count. If he can still pitch like he did in Cleveland I'd be happy to have him.
  8. I have to admit that I never thought that Wagner was Hall of Fame material, but all of these advanced stats are making me re-think my mindset. Joe Nathan was a great pitcher for the Twins for many years, but I'm still not sold on the idea that he is truly deserving of the HOF. But it's surely unfair that he was removed from the ballot after only 1 year. He definitely deserves some reevaluation.
  9. Man, all this sudden activity! Who said it was a quiet off-season!
  10. I didn't know much about him either, but your reasoning is sound. Looks like he could be a cheap but effective help for the bullpen. At this point, the more arms the better. It will be nice to have some good options.
  11. I'll join you in the begging line! Having those players healthy for a full season will be huge. Nevertheless, reading the part about Kirilloff and Miranda, it says that they "hope to be ready" when camp opens next month. That's not quite the same as "will be ready," so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
  12. The Twins certainly have a VERY exciting bunch of young prospects in the system now, and several of them look like they may end up being high quality, all-star type players. But man, about that pitching pipeline ... we still need some better arms in the rotation. Just look at the Angels. In recent years they had two of the best players in the game with Trout and Ohtani, and yet they never even made the playoffs during that time. Granted, Ohtani was pitching during SOME of this period, but still it shows the need for better starting pitching if you want to make the post-season and actually win a series or two or three. Granted, we have some good young arms in the minors too, but not many that have the potential to be frontline starters, except for maybe Soto or Prielipp, and still too many question marks at this stage for those guys.
  13. I knew next to nothing about Omari Daniel before reading this article, so thanks for the information, Seth. And also good to hear that others are excited about Daniel's potential. He could end up being one of those sneaky-good picks that turns into a surefire MLB regular, or at least that's my hope. As jmlease1 suggested, having someone like Royce Lewis being a mentor would be huge.
  14. Very helpful background and overview. Thanks for that. I didn't know anything about Keaschall when the Twins drafted him, but he's looking like a very good pick. He has that "look" of a consistently good hitter.
  15. The Twins pick up some guy named Bubba Thompson on waivers and there are already 4 pages of comments on this site!? Man, it's been a slow off-season!
  16. Yeah, I doubt he lasts the entire season with the Pirates, but as you noted, he most likely will be a valuable trade piece (once again!) when July rolls around. The Pirates have added a few interesting players this off-season. Meanwhile, back in Minnesota ...
  17. You make some good points about Edmonds, and also Lofton, a player I always loved to watch play. Both remain very underrated, even though they had long careers. But it's doubtful they will make the HOF unless a future Veterans committee decides they are worthy.
  18. I'm Old School too, but when it comes to trades, I'd have no qualms about trading with any team in any division or league.
  19. Looking over the stats again, it almost DOES feel like he's worthy of consideration, which is not what I expected to feel. I always thought he was a good player, extraordinary center fielder for many years, but falls short of HOF consideration.
  20. That All-Star game catch was one of my favorite Hunter moments too, plus the reaction from Bonds afterwards!
  21. Like most everyone else, I'm hoping for a healthy and productive season from Ryan. It's always seemed like he has the "right" mindset to excel as a pitcher, so hopefully he can make the necessary adjustments with his pitch selection and limit those confounded homers. I remain hopeful.
  22. Good article! In my foggy brain, I had thought that Duensing had finished pitching over a decade ago, so I was surprised to see that he had pitched as recently as 2018. Not that many years ago, but it sure seems like an eternity!
  23. Good article, and I especially appreciate the deep dive into the advanced stats. I'm still trying to get my head around some of these new ways to evaluate a player, so it's helpful. I'm also a fan of Martin, or at least someone that has confidence/hope that he will turn into a solid MLB player. Whenever that happens, who knows? As some others have written, a lot will depend on the injury situation in late March. But yeah, I certainly think we'll see Martin with the Twins at some point this season, maybe even before June.
  24. I'm curious, if not excited, about the young pitchers the Twins have too. Even untested arms like Prielipp and Soto still hold some excitement, But man, I would sleep a lot better if we got another effective veteran arm in the rotation for this coming season.
  25. I'm very curious too, but I imagine if/when the deal comes through, any money coming to the Twins won't come in time to sign any top-tier free agents.
