  1. Not a shocking situation. When your starters can only pitch 4 or 5 innings, or worse. you are going to wear out the bullpen fairly soon.
  2. I've always like Lewis and have hoped he would overcome these nagging injuries and become the consistently elite player that we hoped he would be. But even a few years back, on that draft day, if it had been up to me, I would have drafted Hunter Greene with that pick too. We were sorely in need of quality pitching and to some extent we still are. Okay, Greene hasn't made an All-Star team yet, but neither has Royce. I'd still like to have that pitcher.
  3. Yes indeed. Despite the HBP it was encouraging start for him. I just hope he can go much deeper in his starts this season.
  4. Like Dman and DocBauer I will be following Diaw to see how he adapts behind the plate in the minors. Seems like he has the potential to move up quickly, health permitting.
  5. Another terrific summary, Matt. I especially liked the way you added a musical angle: Unfortunately—as George Harrison told us in 1970—all things must pass, and the Saints’ scoreless streak finally came to an end on Wednesday. In the 8th,
  6. I know next to nothing about any of the pitchers on the Mighty Mussels roster this season, so the information on this post is very helpful. Thank you!
  7. He keeps showing that trend in the next start or two, your suggestion might be heeded by the Twins.
  8. The musical chairs continue. But I wonder ... was he selected from a menu of some sort?!
  9. Very happy to see the Saints playing ball again, and more importantly to see these Minor League reports back for another season. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
  10. I agree, There needs to be some sort of rule to prevent these types of silly transactions. They now have new rules regarding the use of relief pitchers, so why not some sort of sensible (or one that is at least fair to the players) way to manage rosters?
  11. Thank you for a very much needed "feel good" article. After the very depressing start to the season, this article helped lift my mood. I still miss the joy of watching Mickey Hatcher play. And I had forgotten that the Twins had traded Landreaux to get him. Great article!
  12. I'm wondering the same thing. I missed the news that he was hurt and would miss a lot of this season. Bad luck for an interesting player.
  13. I don't see any scenario where moves likes this are banned from MLB. It's a business and in this case, I suppose an example of "creative" roster construction or juggling or whatever the Twins front office are attempting. So sure, I understand the logic and the business reasons behind the move, but as a longtime baseball fan, one who roots for fringe players like Dobnak, I detest these sorts of DFA moves. No matter how you want to spin it, it's a black eye for the Twins front office.
  14. Nishioka, Slowey, Huskey, Jaimie Garcia, Joe May ... ugh, I think I'll pop a Tylenol and take a nap now.
  15. I'm always wary of signing catchers to long-term contracts. Jeffers is already 28, so how many more years can we expect him to be behind the plate? Most likely he will end up being one of those veteran catchers that transitions to first baseman or DH. I'm quite satisfied with how he has performed in recent years, but I would not be too eager to give him a contract much longer than 2-3 years, if even that much. Then again, it's not like we have a bunch of stellar catching prospects waiting to be called up.
  16. Is it possible to buy a whole set of voodoo dolls for the entire Dodgers team? I can't put into words how much I have come to hate that organization. But as another poster just noted; baseball is indeed broken.
  17. I'm always hopeful, if even optimistic about the Twins when each season starts. On paper we have the makings of a very good team. Hopefully health and productivity prevail and we can at least win the division. Gotta believe!
  18. I just noticed that on another thread. Thanks!
  19. I was wondering about what was going to happen with him. Thanks!
  20. I'm still waiting for an update or clarification on Castellano's status. Has he actually been released and sent back to the Phillies? Or put on waivers and any team can claim him? Or will the Twins still try and work out a deal with Philly and keep him in the minors?
  21. Canada or Mexico is fine, but the idea of playing regular season games in Japan would be too much of a reach, not to mention too costly and tiring for the players. But the exhibition games are fun. I love those fans at the Japanese stadiums.
  22. Sadly, that is starting to sound like an accurate assessment. Or as Nashville Twin said: "they don’t have a position they can play at an above average level." It just seems like so many of these young players are interchangeable position-wise, or we end up sticking them at DH, and I'm not sure that's a good thing for their development.
