  1. The last couple of years of Pohlad ownership could be a case study in how to destroy a professional sports franchise. They have to be among the worst owners in all of professional sports.
  2. The cratering attendance seems pretty heavily correlated with the ownership's decision to cut payroll. This choice demoralized the fanbase and we are seeing the result. The other issue is that there has been nothing to generate excitement in over 2 years. The team hasn't made the playoffs and there have been zero acquisitions that are even a little interesting.
  3. It's tough to win enough to make the playoffs when you have 3 rookie starters who only go 4-5 innings followed by a shaky bullpen.
  4. So our only trade deadline acquisition is a questionable right handed reliever who has given up 15 runs over his last 8 appearances?
  5. Facing Snell without the your top 4 hitters (who are all right handed) was not an ideal matchup. The results ended up pretty much as expected.
  6. The guy who seems to be deserving of a chance but doesn't get much recognition is DaShawn Kierey. He's hitting .302/.390/.538 (.928 OPS) at AAA. He's also is a plus defender in CF and can steal bases pretty well. Being a left handed hitter makes him a good platoon option with Buxton.
  7. Twins now 8 back after the first 20 games. How deep does the hole need to get before there is no way out.
  8. I'd give Camargo a few games in place of Vasquez and see what he does. Right now playing a guy who might struggle is a huge improvement over a guy who has definitely shown he can't hit.
  9. I expect Varland to stick in the rotation in the short term since the front office and Baldelli have a history of giving even the worst starters at least 5 and often close to 10 starts before making a change. It is also lucky for Varland that the bullpen has been doing well without Duran and Topa. If the bullpen was struggling there were be a lot of pressure to move Louie to the pen where he has shown he can be a good late inning guy.
  10. Saying there are 7 guys under .250 with OPS under .700 doesn't really capture the staggering ineptitude of the Twins hitters. A bit more accurate take would be to say that 6 of the hitters are under .155 with OPSs of .580 or less.
  11. DeSclafani going down is unfortunate, but it's hard to consider it a surprise. Trading for a pitcher with known arm issues has not been a strategy that has worked well for the Twins.
  12. It was actually 9 starts and 42 innings if you count the 4 starts he had in 2022 after the trade. Still, it's looking pretty likely that it will go to go down as one of the worst trades in twins history.
  13. I think the biggest takeaway is that the Twins pitching staff is likely to take a step back next season, meaning the team needs the offense to take a step forward.
  14. Has Buxton played a single inning of infield defense in his entire career? I'm skeptical that making the switch to 1B is something he could be successful at without multiple seasons of work.
  15. This loss felt a lot like a typical Twins playoff game over the last 15 years in that our starting pitching was completely overmatched and the rest of the team couldn't make up the difference.
  16. Great game for the Twins. Lewis was awesome and would be even more so if he can get back in the field (please no more Polanco at 3B).
  17. Gallo and Luplow are the obvious choices to get bumped from the 40-man roster. If a third spot is needed one of Floro/Keuchal seem likely to be next in line to go.
  18. I'm hoping to see both Stewart and Paddack in the majors in the next few days. It would be great to get each of them 3-4 MLB appearances before the playoffs.
  19. Sad but probably true. The reasoning for Gallo returning will likely frustrate a lot of Twins fans.
  20. I think by losing today the Twins guaranteed they would be ahead of the Diamondbacks and Red Sox. From mlbtraderumors: "Boston, Minnesota and Arizona could swap places in waiver priority tonight. When multiple clubs have the same record, priority goes to the team in the same league as the team that put the player on waivers. Within leagues, priority goes to the team that had the worse record in prior seasons. If they all have the same record going into tomorrow, the order would go Minnesota (worse record than the Red Sox in 2021) – Boston – Arizona."
  21. I'll be very surprised if Ohtani doesn't sign with a team on the west coast. I'm not sure why there's even a discussion on him coming to Minnesota, it just isn't happening.
  22. From a post on mlbtraderumors, it sounds like the Twins loss today guarantees they will be ahead of Boston and Arizona in the waiver claim list. So basically, the only teams still in the playoff hunt that would be ahead of Minnesota are the Marlins and the Reds (and the Padres, though they have virtually no chance at the postseason).
  23. I'd make claims on Moore, Lopez, Giolito, and Grichuk. They look like they'd be upgrades over Funderburk, Sands, Keuchel, and Luplow. For spots on the 40-man, I'd move Miranda to the IL-60 and waive Luplow, Gallo, and maybe Keuchel.
  24. I do wonder if the Twins should waive Gallo today and give him a chance to land on another playoff team. Maybe there is some team out there in need of a left-handed hitting OF/1B that would be willing to bet $2M on the chance that he gets hot down the stretch.
