Cleveland was tough, fighting to win to the end but the Tampa Bay Rays were the best team in the American League and they played really well. I was listening to the Cleveland broadcast tonight and they were effusive in their praise of Taylor Walls calling him the MVP of the ALCS because of his defense. Congratulations to the Rays. The World Series should be fabulous with the two best teams in baseball playing each other. Toss up? I think so.

Hopefully the Twins front office was watching every inning of this series and comes to the conclusion and belief that drives the Brewers and Rays - Defense Matters.

I really hate the over-the-top behavior of modern athletes. Whatever happened to just trotting around the bases when you hit a home run?

Times change and the celebrations of good plays is one result.

If it offers any consolation, the behavior of athletes is almost always positive behavior and by comparison there are endless public examples of powerful, influential, and wealthy people routinely committing heinous negative acts that draw virtually no response. In most situations the modern athlete is the best behaved of all  public figures.

Interesting thing 1: you hear a lot of times how the playoffs are a crapshoot, and it does feel like that a lot of the time.  But at least for this season, the team with the better regular season record has won every series.

Interesting thing 2: we are guaranteed to see a franchise win their first-ever World Series.  That hasn't been true coming into the Series since 1980, and it's only the second time it's been true since 1920

Brewers in six (actually five, but it's more fun when the winner clinches at home)

For those that attended the Twins World Series in 87 or 91, do you remember how much tickets cost?

I’m looking at the secondary market Gametime (use promo code Gleeman 😉) and the cheapest ticket for game 1 is $2,700. Absolutely insane.

I love that people are happy and able to show joy.

How about showing some composure? I'm tired of these ridiculous, egotistic celebrations of themselves every time they do anything. Make a routine tackle? Run 20 yards into the open thumping your chest and roaring at the sky.  And that behavior has infected every level of competition. Even Little Leaguers are doing the bat flip, chest thumping and roaring. I know, I'm old. I grew up in the Bud Grant era when players showed a little maturity and dignity.

Men are probably too emotional to play sports.

Using the terms maturity and dignity sure is something....I have no idea how it is undignified to be happy. You realize this was part of a political agenda, right? To keep people down? It's why tables can't have facial hair, because liberals did. Same thing.

I don’t like the unwritten rules. Spontaneous celebration is part of the fabric of sport, just as the frustration of failure. Certainly context matters as well. The playoffs are different than a blowout in the 94th game of the season. When celebrations become contrived it loses me. At that point it is an ego centric display that shows no respect for your opponent. Yes I’m old enough and naive enough to still believe in sportsmanship. Perhaps the concept of sportsmanship should be more embraced by society as a whole, perhaps the world would be a better place.
