Losing games they could win and bats going quiet after the first few innings is becoming a trend. Bullpen is tired and giving up runs late, blowing leads. Starters imploding by the 5th or 6th. The boys are tired, this team is not steam rolling home on win streaks, they've lost 7/10. Bats can't hit against bullpens, going down in <10 pitches in final innings with 0 hits or walks. Some positives with Culpepper, Jenkins, Lee an Keaschall getting hits but not enough to mount meaningful rallies. A lot has to change overnight for this team to make a meaningful push. Bring up some more young guys like ERod and let's have a glimmer of hope for 2027/8. This would be the best strategy for the rest of 2026. TCanWins 1

Can't he just be a good, developing pitcher, which he is, and let the future take care of itself? Hunter4848 1

Piggybacking means planning for failure. Let him adjust. Seven games under 500 - I am really not thinking wild card. I want to see the team do the things that will lead to a better 2027. Plan the young guys and roll the dice. Ahh the voice of reason. Thanks Mikelink45. mikelink45 1
HerbieFan Verified Member Posted Saturday at 10:43 PM Posted Saturday at 10:43 PM We all know he's WAY past his previous career high for innings pitched. Maybe wouldn't be a bad idea to try and figure out what has plagued him the 3rd time through the order and have him work on those things in two-inning stints out of the bullpen? They're not making the playoffs so I don't see the point in continuing to push him so far past the innings threshold. HarmonK03 1

And he is going to figure out what has plagued him the 3rd time through the order by basically facing the order 1 time, ok got it.
bean5302 Verified Member Posted yesterday at 02:54 AM Posted yesterday at 02:54 AM Honestly... what would Prielipp's ERA be without the relievers allowing inherited runners to score? I feel like I've seen it time and time again where Shelton lets Prielipp pitch to a batter or two, then pulls him mid inning and the bullpen allows all the inherited runners to score. There is no "September" competitive stretch. The Twins are DONE. D. O. N. E. They own a 5.6% chance statistically, but are EIGHT games under .500 and have 4 teams ahead of them in the chase for the last Wild Card. In any case, Prielipp should keep pitching in the rotation and gaining experience. There's no harm if he gets blown up because the Twins are cooked. Berrios came up in 2016 and pitched to a 7.27 ERA from 8/1+. Prielipp is a legit rotation arm getting killed by LOB. I'd move Kremer to the 'pen. DJL44 and HarmonK03 2

Dobson cuellar Palmer I can see his face the fourth one and the all were 20 game winners all on one team. so we're worried about a starting pitcher throwing over 100 innings at that time. 300s was possible. let's say he gets $10 million because he has a winning record and throws 100 innings and wins seven games. as it is now you can have some 200 inning people and they're paying 20% of the team's games and they can make $25 million at 20%. this is crazy. so if you're lucky real lucky the guy picks up 20 wins but we play 162 games. how is that worth all that money? they need to be able to do something else on the field and some of them can. Go back to high school level. they're pitching great games and might be the star hitter on the team also and play shortstop when they're not pitching then they might be worth the money at the current market. but if a guy can't pitch 100 games without having a sore arm, maybe he needs a different profession or take a salary of $50,000 for the year.
Andy MacPhail Verified Member Posted yesterday at 03:27 PM Posted yesterday at 03:27 PM Twins need someone who has a better idea on how to manage the rotation & BP. Overextending the rotation & burning out short relief is a constant result after many years. Prielipp should have been placed in the BP a long time ago. There are many elite SPs who started out in the BP. Their reluctance to do so is their down fall.

A lot of pitchers used to throw 80-85mph. Now they throw 95-100mph. Big difference in how the arm responds to that. MLB has changed its strategy in regard to what they look for in a pitcher.
soyouresayingtheresachance Verified Member Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Someone needs to be displaced when Ryan comes back. The guy on an "innings limit" would make sense. Its very clear to anyone watching that he seems to get tired or hit harder around the 4th inning or so now. Ober has been getting the shorter leash and its mostly worked well for him. I'd imagine the decision would come down to one of those 2. Maybe they pitch them both in a piggyback type situation after Ryan returns? Let Bailey go 4 or 5 inning and have Prilipp finish the game. If Ryan is fully healthy upon returning, he is better than anyone in the rotation except maybe Bradley, so whichever guy is taken out of the rotation, it will be better for the team. Since Prielipp is on an innings limit, I suppose he would be my choice. Send him to the BP and let him take it easy the rest of the season.

Actually, I should have referenced an earlier entry in which the author named 3 of the 4 Baltimore pitchers who won 20 games in the same season.
