You totally missed it. Shelton went to the mound, used five infielders, and told everyone they were looking for a ground ball double play with Raleigh being a very slow runner. The play is second base. The manager could not have been any more predictive or instructive.

Royce made a mistake, it happens. You just did too. It's all good. They need to keep playing hard because there is plenty of season left.

Or ..... you were being sarcastic.

If the ball had been hit anywhere but where it was, to Lewis's left, its a non-discussion. Lewis is new to 1B and doesn't have the ability (yet?) to fight his instinct (get the out at 1B) and realize the play was to throw to 2B, though to be honest, there was a lot of traffic in front of him - Martin and Rodriguez were both in his line of sight and Martin dropped to the ground kind of late and still directly  between Lewis and 2B, or step on 1B and immediately look/throw home. Not making excuses, I was always coached to anticipate the ball coming to you so you knew what/where your play would be

Good grief, the mental gymnastics to make excuses for Royce is absurd. He’s played baseball for 20 years, all of it in the infield. I’ve been optimistic about his play at first since the transition but he screwed up. It’s ok to admit it.

Yep. Forgot to push the sarcasm emoji button. I didn’t see it, so apparently the bases weren’t loaded and the play was to second… but either way, it isn’t little league, they should know where to throw before they get the ball without the manager having to tell them. Seems he screwed it up despite the manager having actually told him.
