SWR had a 4.06 ERA entering today………he got rocked in one of his 4 innings. Not sure if moving him down makes sense - he’s had a bunch of competitive starts over last 12 months. ……….Paddack is just a bad outing from everyone calling for him to be shifted out of the rotation………with no upcoming off days, moving off SWR screws things up relative to “rest” for starters. I don’t see it happening.

Somebody has to come up for Sunday - assuming that’s Festa. Alcala may get optioned for 15 days?

………………

SURPRISING NEWS - Twins are last Team IN playoffs in 3rd AL Wildcard spot as of today.

I wouldn’t move him down based on the second Oriole game. Kremer and Ober also struggled facing the same team in two consecutive starts.

I still don’t think it would be a bad move to option out Wood Richardson to have a starter for Sunday. It might give them the best chance to set up the rotation and bullpen for the Guardians and Royals week. It doesn’t seem like a bullpen day would be a good idea but I suppose starting Matthews or Festa could turn into a bullpen day.

They could be very aggressive with moves looking towards next week. They could start Zebby on Sunday and then return him for an extra lefty in Funderburk. Funderburk can stay for that week until the 28th when the would need to use Festa. SWR could be back after that.

SWR's last 100 IP in MLB (99.2).
21 GS, 99.2 IP, 4.97 ERA, 4.68 FIP, 4.67 xFIP, 8.31 K/9 (21.0%), 3.70 BB/9 (9.3%)
3 Quality Starts
7 Starts 5.0 IP, Under 4.00 ERA (competitive games)
Stuff+ 90 (poor)
Location+ 103 (very good)
Pitching+ 94 (below average)
He rarely has a "competitive" game, and has an ERA of basically 5.00.

If the Twins believe SWR can improve a step, he can spend the next few months in AAA. If not, they should see if they can get a desperate team to buy high on him.

The lame part is 10 game win streak but still 5 GB of Detroit. We need the other teams in the division to cool down!

What The Hell Wtf GIF by The Lonely Island

Every team is going to have their lulls but the Twins can only control what they can control, When they roll out the balls in February the goal is to be playing in October. As crazy as this would have sounded a few days ago if the season ended right now they're in.

Of course it is WAY too early to call them a team of destiny. Or is it? They just swept a doubleheader, on the road, fueled by 3 run homers off the bats of Christian Vasquez and Kody Clemens. And in the last 30 1/3 the pen has allowed one earned (on a double play ball deflected by Jax.) When I glance at the July-August schedule my rose-colored glasses belief is they will put a lot of hay in the barn. First week of March I predicted 94-68. No reason to put crow in the oven just yet.

I agree with stats - I’d probably go back to the  entirety of his starts backing up to ‘24 season to quote stats in a more blended approach. I do get though, that maybe via seeing him and via scouting, the other teams have his number - maybe? I think it’s more on him.

He’s 24 - he’s had moderate success. He’s well liked in the organization. I think he’d have to be bad or really flatten out to be considered for a trade in ‘25 or even ‘26.

4.37 ERA if one goes back to all his starts since start of ‘24. 171 innings pitched - 8K’s per 9 innings……..a re-set could be good as he’s always walked too many and then starts throwing hittable (middle-middle) pitches and that leads to a bunch of hits surrendered.

I think he’s a decent #5 starter going forward.

Matt Wallner or Luke Keaschall to the 60 day IL is easier.

Not really up to date but my assumption was that Wallner would be back by June 1 at latest? I think he’d be retroactive to around April 15? ……I guess Keaschall is an easy move since he’s out til All-star break or so.

Paddock has averaged less than two runs given up his last six starts. No one should be calling for him to be out of the rotation.

SWR sent to AAA with Funderburk staying up to help cover innings in the pen. Guessing he'll be replaced by Festa or Mathews soon as they need a starter. Hopefully Bader isn't too hurt, but if he can't play for awhile I'd give the big man his call up. Keirsey is an automatic out at this point so I'd much rather see what Mccusker can do. It's also looking like Lewis needs some time in AAA to get the bat going. Problem is, there's nobody viable to replace him at 3rd. Miranda? He hasn't shown much. Someone from the Saints that's hitting well like Fitzgerald. Then you run into 40 man roster troubles.

I guarantee you that if he gets lit up (maybe twice) the people here will immediately call for Zebby Matthews - my comment wasn’t about reality of Twin’s actions (or what “should happen”) it was about the tendency at TD to always want somebody else on the roster because “we know who the best players are”, until they fail & then it’s the fault of the “stupid front office”.

Staff ERA for the Season is 3.38.

Bullpen, over the 10 game win streak, has thrown 37 1/3 innings with a .96 ERA. Nothing wrong with the staff that this F.O. put together.

Alcala - Stewart - Jax have all been roughed up big time, more than once………still good numbers when blended with the group.

Can anybody explain to me what the h%ll is going on?! I had just settled down to hate this team until at least September.

Well maybe you can let your hate simmer on the back burner for now, at least until Monday when the 6 game stretch starts with Cleveland and KC. 😁

True, I just don’t see any way Gasper helps this team over others. I know he has position flexibility but he can’t hit MLB pitching.

Our starters maybe didn't quite have there best stuff , bullpen arms did a great job , even Alcala  went 2 innings ...

10 game winning streaks are tough to do , and very stressful for the fans because we want the streak to continue ...

These two games today were stressful but it was worth it,  we did have 4 errors in first game and we still won , don't know if you saw Clemens at first base in first game , but he blew 2 scoops that cost an error on correa's throw , either Clemens is rusty playing first or he just isn't a first basemen

Enjoyed the day watching the doubleheader  , glad I got my outdoor chores done before game time ...

I have a feeling as Baltimore continues to struggle to win games that a change will be coming maybe as soon as the twins win tomorrow  , Hyde is on the hot seat , their lineup is awesome but their starting pitching isn't,  plus their 2 best are on IL list  ...

Starting at the beginning of last season, when Alcala was coming back from arm problems, the Twins would pitch him in multiple & consecutive day innings. They still haven't let him get 100%, they still put him multiple & consecutive days innings & they wonder, "why is Alcala getting hurt & why isn't he consistently putting up quality innings? Letting him sit for a while between outings isn't the answer. If you want him to stay healthy & consistently pitch quality innings. You pitch him 1 inning every other day until he can go longer.

Coulome pitched only 1 out, Topa pitched only 2 outs & Varland is a big strong healthy RP that was a SP; all of them could have pitched an extra inning. But it's foolishly in their head that Alcala is their long man no matter what. They got to get it out their heads. Alcala can be a vital high leverage RP if used correctly, just saying.

He's given up an average of less than two runs in his last six starts.... What do people want from him before they think he's been good?

Well...I was happily wrong :)
