For years pitching (lack thereof) has been the Twins lament. So let's deal 3 of them, none of whom are on expiring contracts. What? Unmentioned in the Falvey trade bio is the Mahle deal. How did that work out?

I was the most optimistic cat in the kingdom until Lopez went down and the Twins refusal to admit that SWR doesn't throw enough strikes to warrant the opportunities he's being given. Certainly the SS needs to take charge, the manager needs to be told what a sac bunt is and someone should tell Vasquez that Duran can run his heater up to 102. Use it occasionally. But right now, sadly, they appear to be waiting for the light to change so they can take a left turn off a cliff. Starting to remind me of last September. A brewing mess and helpless to do anything about it.

Great performance by Paddack. He deserved better. This stat is probably kept somewhere but the Twins appear to lead the league in infield hits allowed. Take a breath and go get 3 in Sacramento.

To me this one has a completely different vibe (probably because it didn't include 7 games against the worst team ever.) Upsides? More reliable rotation depth, which is significant (if Ryan doesn't go down in 2024 they play in October) and a much deeper pen now that Louie has accepted his role and Coulombe is the lefty choice over Okert, who was always one pitch away from falling apart, and Caleb who was the little girl with the curl. Sands is no longer a question mark and while Alacala will ALWAYS make me nervous when he's you're 8th option that's a lockdown bullpen. Rose colored glasses say 94-68.

Honestly I don't see much + in any of his pitches. He gets behind constantly and then it's chuck and duck. Right now I'd put Mathews, Festa and Morris ahead of him for the #5 spot. He had a couple of nice months in 2024, But the need to improve on the 4 items mentioned, and the challenge to do so, doesn't bode well for a promising future.

View from the nickel seats. With a number of ST road games available on the tube and Gasper making those trips I was impressed that he appeared to be patiently aggressive (going deep against the Yankees.) Once the season started it was like a switch went off and he was suddenly tentative without the noticeable patience. Strikes me as fixable problem. His versatility could bring value right now. Plus great mustache. Rooting for you Mickey.

In my experience crow is best served with al fredo sauce and a couple of sprigs of asparagus. Had a giant helping last season predicting 93 wins before the epic collapse.

Every team is going to have their lulls but the Twins can only control what they can control, When they roll out the balls in February the goal is to be playing in October. As crazy as this would have sounded a few days ago if the season ended right now they're in. Of course it is WAY too early to call them a team of destiny. Or is it? They just swept a doubleheader, on the road, fueled by 3 run homers off the bats of Christian Vasquez and Kody Clemens. And in the last 30 1/3 the pen has allowed one earned (on a double play ball deflected by Jax.) When I glance at the July-August schedule my rose-colored glasses belief is they will put a lot of hay in the barn. First week of March I predicted 94-68. No reason to put crow in the oven just yet.

He is close to that "caliber." Obviously injuries, etc. I had the opportunity to first lay eyes on Byron on a work assignment in Cedar Rapids in 2013. First at bat I saw he beat out a routine 4-3. Okay then. Later in the series he homered onto the roof of a house across the street, an accomplishment only authored once before. By Mike Trout. A bit later I was set up to interview the home owner in the left field picnic area when he hit a fly ball to center field. On a breezy night it was misplayed by the CF and when I turned to look back toward the infield he was already rounding 3rd and scored standing on a 4 base error. Naturally the series also included a couple of routinely spectacular catches. When I think of Buxton that's what I think of. Injuries will keep him from any HOF discussion but a generational talent for the ages. Please stay healthy young man and string together some healthy seasons. You've earned it. I also need to mention this. In my experience humble, thoughtful and genuinely a fine young man.
