I also don't think they can afford to have that many catchers on the 40-man roster. If they add one they need to subtract one.

I would see if Oakland would trade Miguel Andujar for Paddack. That saves $4.5M and gets them their RH hitting bench OF. Andujar has played 3B & 1B as well.

Another possibility would be trading Paddack to Texas for Leody Tavares.

That would be a career year for Paddack. He's put up a 4.90 ERA over the last 5 seasons. Anything's possible but that scenario has a <10% likelihood of happening. It's roughly as likely that Festa or Matthews would be able to do that.

My quote is figurative.  Last season even though he had a 4.9 era he pitched much better than that other than one really bad start and I think his last start before shutting down.  You take out his worst two appearances and he was in the 3.s for era.  So he could do that for a full season if he can avoid being injured

FWIW, I highly doubt the Twins are not spending the $4-9M necessary to sign a guy like Hays or Grichuk due to financial limits. Rather I would suggest Falvey wants to see either what is available via trade or he wants to see how his current guys produce.

That'd be common sense but my observation is during these budget restrictions Falvey is fine trading away anybody just for a chance to pull up a chair at the Big Boys' FA table. He loves the praise from the TV & website sports commentators & hates to be criticized for doing nothing. A bad or insignificant deal is better than no deal. They can always spin it.

Yes, if Paddack has the best season of his career and doesn't have any bad starts, he could do that. That is his >90th percentile projection. Do you assume everyone will hit their >90th percentile projection?

Why would a rebuilding Miami want Paddock and Castro, with their $13 million salaries? That makes no sense, but I would take their lefty. Also, San Diego unloaded an injury prone Paddock on the Twins. They know his history and I doubt they want to give it another go. But the name mentioned,  Valenzuela’s muddling offfensive stats are unimpressive to say the least. Cincinnati makes some sense as a salary dump for minor league depth. But not for the 34 year old Arroyo ( why is he a prospect) or 19 year old catcher Duno. Higher level and proven prospects would need to be included.

I understand the team wanting to trade Paddack, based on what he is making.  However, I do not understand why many teams would be seeking him, or why we would be so interesting in keeping him if a decent teal comes along.  Specifically, people talking about him giving us depth.  What depth does he give us?  We have needed depth the last couple years because we counted on him.  In 3 years he has pitched a total of 115 innings.  I do not see how we can expect him to pitch much.  He has never been amazing pitcher. His rookie season he did well, but since then never was either healthy or pitched nearly as good.

If we can get anything for him of much value take the deal.  He does not give you depth, and he will most likely get hurt this year and even if he does not he is a 5th starter at best, but would be better suited as a pen arm at this point.

I don't know that to be the case. Like I have said previously though, i have no idea what Falvey sees or wants.

I am not sure who you are confusing Edwin Arroyo with but he is a 21 y/o SS and the Red's #3 prospect.

I assume because he has done it before he can do it again.  He was two bad starts from doing it again last year.  The issue with him is can we get any innings from him.

I don’t think the need to cut the budget is as big of a factor now that the team is for sale and the way it sounds will be sold. Keep paddack and try him in the pen.

The last time he did it was 5 years and two Tommy John surgeries ago. I have little faith that Chris Paddack is still that pitcher. It's unreasonable to expect him to perform at his highest level all the time and never have a bad start. It's especially unreasonable to have that expectation for him and not have that expectation for anyone else on the team. It's a good practice to assume the 50th percentile outcome and make roster plans based on that.

If he looks good in the spring, I'd run him out there as a 5th SP/pen/swing type for a couple months. This provides a little more development time for Festa, Zebby et al, and hopefully increases his value for a trade at or before the deadline, when the kid pitchers are ready.

I recently saw a report that the Twins and Padres were discussing a trade package for that had Christian Vasquez include. I feel that the Twins could get this done if they package it similar to the Yankees deal for Soto. If this theoretically happens I think Paddack is almost 100% traded. For me the move for Paddack is to pair him with a prospect around the 20-15 range to Baltimore for Mountcastle. It gives us our starting First Baseman and I think Baltimore would be quick to do it since they are wanting to trade Mountcastle.

Vasquez, Johan Duran for Dylan Cease and some good young talent.  SD needs a starting catcher and some salary room and this let's them cash in their one big chip to get back someone huge without wrecking the payroll any further.

Vasquez, young arms (Raya? Morris? ) and Paddack to Cubs for OF Suzuki. Suzuki has no role in the Cubs outfield this summer, makes $18m through 2026, and the team has need at catcher. If we send enough talent we can make this work.

For the life of me I can’t figure out why you would trade Castro away. Great utility man plays everywhere. Has had a rough  2nd half but lots of energy . Just what some Twins lack and  I won’t name names , but we all know who. As far as Paddock goes no big deal we need performers not I L participants. I.E . Buxton and a few others. We have a good group of up and comers, so Paddock is expendable. Just saying

Which do you have more confidence in....SWR as a productive #4 in the rotation or Paddack throwing 130 innings.

I'm going with SWR.

Really a toss up for me. SWR had a terrible year in 23 so I'm not sure who SWR will be. Paddack was good a few seasons back, but hasn't shown much with the Twins.

In 2022 the Twins trade for a 26 year old  pitcher named Chris Paddack, ...the next two years he pitches at total of  27.1   innings for the Twins.  No typo there......27.1 innings whopping innings.

Now...in 2025 just when it looks like he may be able to finally pitch an entire year. He is still only 29 and actually pitched 88 innings last year......NOW WE TRADE HIM AWAY?

Go ahead and deal him. Wouldn't surprise me to see him in a Padres uniform pitching into the post season.
