Man the Jets have interviewed a bunch of coaches already.

Can you imagine a grown man with NFL experience going in to work and having to report to a couple of teenagers who will judge you based on how your players avatars play in their video games?

It’s hard not to be so bitter as a Vikings fan when you realize Doug ****ing pederson won a Super Bowl at our expense, in our own stadium, and has now been unceremoniously kicked to the curb twice.

You really need to let this stuff go. It's over.

I don't love everything KOC does, but I can't imagine a package that would be offered I'd take.. like, blown away likely isn't enough.

The bidding begins at 10 1st round picks for me

What was with that “KOC is a trade option” story that breaks on the morning of the game of the year? Curious timing to say the least

Felt like a non story to fill airtime since most of the playoff spots were decided before yesterday’s games

One of the talking heads wondered if it was something the KOC camp put out there, since contract talks haven’t started yet.

That was my guess.

Giants decided being mediocre is okay by keeping both the HC and GM. That franchise used to be a marquee brand in the league and they’ve been a laughing stock for 10 years.

A third generation owner running a team into the ground ... can you imagine rooting for a team like that?  Must be awful

No idea if it will turn out to be the right move, but I respect John Mara a bit more for this. I LOVE that he didn't knee-jerk react to a bunch of armchair fans.

Not saying the fans were wrong, but NY fans are insufferable and need to be told they don't run the world once in awhile.

I might have split the difference though, keeping the HC and firing the GM.

A bit sobering.

Of the 19 Black head coaches who have been hired in the NFL since Art Shell became the first to lead an NFL team in the modern era in 1989, six, including Mayo, have had one-and-done seasons.

I didn't read the article, but there was a long stretch there where they were just cannon fodder. The owners knew the team needed a rebuild so they hired a black coach, probably for the PR of it all, but knowing it was a one year gig until the team was back on it's feet and aimed for a bigger name.

Bears asking to talk to Mike McCarthy.

Reaction 1–what in the name of all that is holy is wrong with the “brain” trust in Chicago?

Reaction 2–please please please let the Bears hire McCarthy.

I slept on this and there is some logic here. McCarthy is a good coach - not great - and I suspect he would bring some professionalism to Chicago. He has some reputation for knowing how to develop QBs (maybe not all deserved). He's a known quantity. I could see him stabilizing the Bears and developing Williams - the most important aspect for their next coach - for a couple years and then the Bears move on. Kind of like a bridge head coach.

You don’t have to look past the Vikings. Frazier only got three years despite being tied to Christian Ponder, meanwhile Zimmer comes in here, is just as mediocre as Frazier and sets up a hostile work environment to boot, and nobody touches him.

I'm not going to go too far to defend billionaires, but I think the Wilfs did OK with that situation. Frazier did get three years and two of them were the two worst years for the Vikings in the 21st Century. Awful QBs for sure, but he was a defensive coach and they had the 32nd ranked defense in the league in his last year. I think a lot of clubs would have fired Frazier after his first season when they went 3-13, but he got two more years.

Zimmer, yeah that went on too long, but he never won fewer than 7 games. It was a whole lot of average, but it was never terrible.

Disagree. Frazier’s record was far worse than zimmer’s. He had no QB but Peterson carried that team that year he almost set the rushing record. Zimmer got to a NFCCG with keenum. Also Denny green lost his first 4 playoff games and still managed 10 seasons as the head coach

I don’t pretend to know the situation in New England but there has been a one and done coach almost every year since 2015.

Frank reich (2023) panthers

Nathaniel Hackett (2023) broncos

Lovie smith (2022) Texans

david culley (2021) Texans

Urban Meyer (2021) jags

Freddie kitchens (2019) browns

Steve wilks (2018) cardinals

chip Kelly (2016) niners

Jim tomsula (2015) niners

and let’s not forget our own one year guy, Les Steckel

It was an odd process for the Patriots, they handed the job to Mayo without interviewing anyone else last year, and had easily the worst roster in football so the expectations should have been low. He may have lost the locker room based on some interviews I saw with Patriots players, but perhaps there is a coaching candidate out there they really want now - Vrabel seems to be the name the media thinks. But if they bothered to do an actual search last year, Vrabel could have been part of that process.

Ironic that all these years of watching Belichick protégés go out and flop elsewhere, the first thing they do after firing Bill is immediately bringing in one of his disciples? They should have at least interviewed Brian Flores, the most successful of his disciples.

Didn’t belichick basically hand pick him to be his successor?

With the reported dissention between Kraft and Belichick, I don't know why they didn't want to clean house and start from scratch. Anyone tied to Belichick is going to constantly be compared to Belichick. Should have found a completely different group of leaders and a completely different style of football.

No, reports now are that Kraft picked Mayo to be the successor several years ago, Belichick didn't like that there was a succession plan and Belichick barely even talked to Mayo that final year they coached together.
