To be fair, they're playing against the greatest defensive 3B of this generation tonight. It would work once and then the Cardinals would adjust.

And they do it almost every GD game. Most Every team. 

If they're going to shift make them play without a SS.

The blow out against the Padres was not a good thing, as in this game the real world reinserts itself.

Sonny Gray is gonna throw a gem tomorrow. I remember all he did as a Twin was nibble the corners and this team is horifically undisciplined.

You're not imagining it. Their worst innings as an offense on the season are the 5th (.714 OPS) and 6th (.652). They have a .768 OPS in the first 3 innings, .770 in the last 3, and .721 in the middle 3.

Sometimes the 6th is a reliever, but the 5th and 6th should usually be a time to feast, third time through the order.

Lately it seems to be just swinging early rather than working the count. I get the theory of ambushing early in the count once they've gotten used to the starters pitches, but it hasn't been working. Not sure if it's been the same approach all season, but it is a frustrating trend.

They clearly don't put a priority on stolen bases.

Not sure how many times this has to be said.

They never pitch out.

They rarely throw over.

They don't pay much attention to runners. Their pitchers dont vary their timing.

 

Their catchers concentrate on setting up for framing, at the expense of throwing. That's a choice they have said they prefer.

They have said they do not believe in a slide step for their pitchers. They prefer to concentrate on strike outs. This isn't me saying this, it's them.

Might be good, might be bad,  but the organization doesn't place any value on stopping a runner game.

I can’t see how wantonly surrendering bases could be a good thing, but I’m not much in to analytics
