Looking further he isn't that experienced at catcher.  Might have to slow my role there.  i still like it because he is versatile and good contact skills.

When you Google you'll be amused regarding flexibility to find there's a Sudanese soccer player with the same name.

This guy's all over the map!

Young and athletic with actual HIT ability. If he's got a natural feel for the position, you can develop the rest, similar to Jeffers.

I'd rather have a good catcher who can hit and be a good offensive player vs a great defensive catcher who just can't hit worth a darn.

He sounds very athletic back there kind of like a Lomovita type guy with less power.  At least he has a plus arm to work with.  I know he is ranked in to 200's on most boards but those ranking will mean less and less the further we get into the draft.  I thought for sure the draft would move arm heavy but lot's of bats still coming off.

Might also be a money saving move for Hill.

Actually sounds more athletic,  stated as a good hit tool, but similar to Cavaco limited in exposure due to injuries so the hit tool may be a little more questionable and may look good due to small sample size.  Even still, this organization has seemed to be very right when they have taken a relatively higher pick on a Catcher.  He looks like he has a chance to be a very good ball player.

Looks like the Twins went off board in the 4th round.  I wonder if they are still trying to come up with money for Hill? Or they just know something others don't?

Sounds like power over hit outfielder\catcher.  Doubling down on that demo this time with elite power.

As usual, I don't really know anything about any of these guys, but: The Marlins drafted a guy named Fenwick Trimble

Looks like he has a brother named "South".

I wonder if they are related to Bobb

9 picks off the board in round 4.  Maybe that's where the rankings start to fall apart.

I was expecting more pitching but I like their picks for the most part.  Must be saving money.

Honestly we had a lot of top end hitting talent in the minors,  but really didn't have enough hitting prospects overall in the minors due to going extremely heavy on pitching prospects last year, which is why we have had to supplement with a lot of independent league hitters this year.  I would guess we are just trying to restock the hitters in these rounds before we go with the regular pitching heavy draft to end the rest of the draft.  We may be trying to find money but Jaime Ferrer, looks again like a player that had a pop up year at Florida State,  1.083 OPS  and 22 HR.  We tend to gravitate to these players hoping they are being underrated and have figured something out.  Rather than going for the player that has had a down year.   It looks like a reasonable pick.   There may be more hitters in this draft that what the prognosticators had stated.

I was expecting more pitching too.  Maybe they're looking to backfill high ceiling position players that will be dealt for controllable pitching soon.

Hi friends,

I've never posted on Twinsdaily, but I've lurked here for the better part of the past 4 years to get my twins updates as someone who lives in good ol Tampa, florida (raised in the midweset). I finally made an account today so I can comment on the Twins taking Jaime Ferrer, which I am SO grateful for, and in the not so distant future, you will be grateful too.

I've known Jaime since he was 11 years old, and he's basically a little brother to me. For those of you saying he had a pop up year this past year, he hit over .300 each year at FSU, and his first two years was on some pretty horrid FSU teams (due to pitching). I've watched him develop over the years from a string bean to big stick whose got power, can fly, and quite honestly, if the Twins are smart, they'll try him out behind the dish, since he's a natural catcher and played there til he got to FSU, where he was blocked by upperclassmen his first season (but they needed his bat so they threw him in LF and RF).  Dude's got a cannon, and dude has the 'I will bust my tail no matter what' mentality, so he'll be easy to root for.  Am I biased? Sure. But watching him develop over the years has been pretty remarkable, and he was holding his own in a lineup with two top 15 guys. Had he stayed at C, he'd have been a top 15 pick as well.  If they keep him in the OF, he'll stay in the corners (probably RF) and could easily develop to a top guy.

Under the radar, possible money move, sure, but the Twins got themselves a good one. He's HYPE right now

Really hoping they go arms soon.  I like the bats they are getting but they lost out on some higher end arms in those rounds.  I guess they really trust they can find arms late.

Great first post. Welcome to Twins Daily. Thanks for your perspective.

All I can say is they are finding some interesting bats.  Lot's of player development needed, but most all these guys have solid hit tools to start.  Wondering what the plan for arms is.

I mentioned him earlier today. Sounds like he may be more if a 1B due to a teammate being the better backstop. Guess we'll see. Probably wouldn't have drafted him this early if they only saw him as a 1B.

I don't know, the Twins have done well finding good players at all spots in the draft, but 6th round doesn't sound early any longer to me. If he's your favorite bat at this point, take him regardless of position.

Great to hear and congrats for your friend.  I know there is a lot of talk about saving money, but he is a guy that the Twins like and think they can save money, not just the cheapest guy they can get.  Plenty of underslot guys turn into really good MLB players.
