Vázquez was set up for low and away, curve came in the high and in corner. Ober missed his location by a mile—granted should still be called a strike

Correct.  At the MLB level, if a catcher sets up where Vazquez was, you're expecting the pitch there.  But I feel like you still need to see the whole picture.  Speaking from my experience at the HS level, just because the catcher sets up there, doesn't mean the pitch will be anywhere near there (as I hope not to flinch because of all that exposed space).

Plus, isn’t the inside edge the easiest to see? (Yeah the pitch went right to the flinch area)

would this not be a good time for a Jeffers PH appearance lol?

Yeah. But he’s got half our hits!

I think if Jeffers was going to pinch hit, it's not going to be for Vasquez so he doesn't have to catch tonight.

Yes.  A professional umpire should never miss a pitch on the inside edge of the plate.  The only grace I'd give on that is if the batter is hanging out over the edge of the plate and the catcher is set up inside and then the umpire has a very small sliver to see the pitch clearly.

Yet with the top of the lineup coming up there’s nowhere for him to pinch hit.
Jeffers sitting after the off day is just an incredible thing. Jeffers is not a 35 yr old catcher nearing the end

We are going to score 2 runs in the top of the 9th, right? More is also acceptable.

The Thielbar Effect is real..

Just lazy.

The Thielbar situation reminds me of the Tyler Duffey situation from a couple years ago

It was no different last year either. He was dominant to lefties as usual and gave up a combined 1.000 ops in the regular season and playoffs to righties. He’s a LOOGY in an era where that is against the rules

Seeing Ober Sands Thielbar in the box score says Everything l need to know..

Really wouldn't matter who was pitching when the offense mustered up a whole 1 run on 2 hits.

The 1 run and 2 hits should be more informative.  Ober and Sands did fine.  Thielbar is a junkballer who should get lit up if the hitter keys on just the slow stuff.  Stanton must have read his scouting report.

A hanger on an 0-2 pitch to a player like Stanton is just ridiculous.  That ball has not business being anywhere near the plate.
